Here's a tip. When you jump or roll-dodge, the initial animation for each have invincibility frames, so you can do either just when the enemy is about to hit you and you'll take no damage. Royal Guard's Just Block frames (when you block perfectly) can easily be stacked with your jump or roll invincibility frames, so you can block immediately after doing either, which should net you perfect blocks.

The best tip I can give. Is to not panic. Whenever I play a game like dmc I think "how would the character act?" With Dante, he's nonchalant and doesn't panic under pressure. So when royal guarding realize you actually have more time than you think you do. I usually push the button when my taunts end lol ik its weird but it works for me

the blocks are impressive, i am able to manage that much, but facts are that there are actually 3 types of releases in this game: 1) nomal release- the boring one that you can do at any given time, when the enemy isn't directing an attack towards you. does nice damage but noticeably lower than the other two. most players in the game can only do this type of release, even experienced players will usually only succeed doing this one rather than the other two, if they're not interested in actively using RG 2)Silver release- this is a release that isn't talked about in the game descriptions as far as i know, but happens to be the most common release among players who are frequent users of RG. it is better than normal release, doing noticeably more damage and fills more DT gauge, and the requirement for that is releasing in a short time window (frame stuff) between the enemy's hit swinging towards you and the attack actually hitting you, BUT NOT EXACTLY BEFORE BEING HIT. it requires good timing but not perfect timing, which is the reason why it's the most common one among the last 2 types. problem is: YOU TAKE DAMAGE. yes, you actually take damage while doing this release, but it is very, very low damage, less than one third of a bar of HP. this is a DMD SS run killer. 3) Gold release- the best release in the game, does the most damage, and (noticeably) more damage than silver release, fills more DT gauge and gives higher style increase than silver. but to preform this release you need to release EXACTLY when you were supposed to be hit, or perhaps just before being hit. you do not lose HP at all from preforming this release. I'm a RG player, and I know very well how enormous the difference is between a player than mainly does Silver release and gets gold releases every now and then (me atm), and a player that (almost) ALWAYS (or simply always) does gold releases. the difference in the skill of RG between the two is big, and much practice is needed in order to constantly gold release. You sir, have done all gold releases, and that I very much admire. Unless one reaches that level of releasing, he is almost certain not to be able to SS a DMD mission with Royal Guard, because one silver release instead of gold and your run is over. the fact that a player can do a Just guard (perfect guard) does not mean that he is proficient with gold releases, or with releasing at all. invincibility frames are what makes guarding easier than releasing, as well as the fact that guarding is essentially one button while releasing is 3 simultaneously. Also you are able to do the gold releases so casually, in almost any situation in which you are attacked, even gold releasing on one enemy by getting attacked by a different enemy. I've finished this game 30+ times, mostly on DMD difficulty during 2007-9, and i never knew royalguard did damage coz i couldn't understand english back then :< i missed out a lot, damn

Royal Guard, Trickster and Quicksilver are the best for easy No Damage DMD. Next would be swordmaster for certain boss fights

royal guard is hard to master since the timing of every attack must be perfect, and sometimes the attack pattern of the enemies are confusing that's normally what a guy who uses swordmaster all the time that plays only in normal mode/a guy who spams the infinite devil trigger from the super dt costume lol. or perhaps a guy who farmed for items just to beat dmd mode

I had the devil may cry 3 in English and I didn't understand much of what he said, that's why I thought the royal guard was garbage because he didn't have cool movements, but now I watch this video and I realize the bestial damage he does to the enemies and I recognize that I was wrong. Now I will buy the collection of devil may cry for playstation 3 to test it without stopping.

Thats one hell of a fantastic inspiration then, and although I'm 2 years late, welcome to DMC! At least you got into the game knowing its potentials, when I started getting into DMC I didn't even know about all this craziness... I only was playing the game trying to beat all difficulties (still need to start DMD lol) when I was young but now I'm mashing the controller cuz I've got my crazy combos down from all the techniques! Its hard but its fun and pays off in the end... makes you look like a fucking gaming wizard that can't get touched haha! Hope your progress has been well, I'm 2 years late lol

Hey dude probably not gonna get a reply for an older vid, but I will give it a shot: what weapons are best to use for rg? I'm pretty much a sm guy and I'll feel like I'll miss out on a lot of combos, but still wanna do a new playthough with rg. One thing though, feck Cerberus, I know its amazing but idk it feels do underwhelming to me...

Hey man, you're in luck cos Im trying to revive my channel with the release of DMC5. Hope you check those out too! With RG, and a majority of DMD, it's best and most practical to stick with Rebellion and Beowulf. Also, use spiral and guard cancel to speed up the shots.

@@nicktheninja3166 I'll pitch in too. I always had interest with Royalguard, but I've been learning to use gunslinger lately. Anyway, A&R do pretty well with its basic attacks, especially with the midair attack. I use it all the time tbh. I haven't gotten to DMD yet, working my way through VH, which so far has been something...(fucking enigmas) but I ran that paired with Beowulf for the most part. A&R was for keeping with the bosses, due to fast attacks, and Beowulf for damage when there was an opportunity. I could even go further giving advice with each fight too but that'd make the fun go away X3 all in all, practice in either Bloody Palace or a certain mission with the enemy you're struggling with, given each enemy has different animations and windows to attack. Once you nailed that, it's all about watching your enemies and be prepared to block at a moment's notice. And like the creator of the video said to another, guarding after a jump can help too.

Hi, thanks for that! It is called jump cancel, you can cancel a move and repeat it by jumping off of the enemy after performing a move. It is quite complex so I suggest looking for a tutorial here on youtube.

Not bad. You may lose out to better, flashier combos, but trickster keeps you living. I tend to use swordmaster or gunslinger due to all the different ways you hurt your opponent X3

I always say RG is really fun to use but takes time to master. They should've implemented the chip damage when doing a normal guard in DMC 5 in that way you can push yourself to do a perfect block and its way easier to do in 5 since a lot of enemies there have choreographed movesets (Looking at you Cavalier Angelo)

I don't even pay attention to the choreograph. I use my eyes and counter when I see I'm about to get hit. Killed the boss you spoke of with only RG moves. I removed my weapons and fought him bare handed and still won like three times just by looking at his movements. Oh the fun we had lmao
