We have 1:1 translations for all these words in English, they're just old and not used anymore hither - сюда whither - куда thither - туда hence - отсюда whence - откуда thence - оттуда here - тут/здесь where - где there - там

There is a lovely biblical example demonstrating these connections. The 28th chapter of Job is a free-standing poem where the speaker is searching for wisdom, as if it were a tangible thing. The 20th verse (Иов 28:20) is, in English (by my recollection): "Whence, then, cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?" И по-русски, как оказалось: "Откуда же исходит премудрость? и где место разума?" (Source is russianbible dot net slash Job-28 dot html). Best wishes.

Your explanations are great, and since I'm a portuguese native speaker, it's easier to understand what you're saying, because the ideas in my language are the same. For example, ЗДЕСЬ means "aqui", and СЮДА means "cá. The same happens to a lot of situations, such as "для" and "за" ("para" and "por", in portuguese), wich english has only one word for, but portuguese, such as russian, has two words.

It‘s like in German: You got the words *hier* and *her*. Hier is used if you stand at a specific point. For example the sentence *Hier ist es warm*. Which means Here it’s warm. You can‘t say *Her ist es warm*. And *her* used, if someone should come to a point. For example Komm her! Come here!

@user-zd3jz5pi6i4 жыл бұрын
Flying Dutchman But in Russian are 6 cases. In German 4.
@setharnold97644 жыл бұрын
@@flyingdutchman9961 I found German much easier: even though there are many false friends with German and English there are far more similarities. I found it easier to read arbitrary things and just skip words I didn't know and eventually pick them up, without losing the flow of what I was reading. But with Russian and English there are fewer words with shared roots or obvious relationships, so I find it harder to read new, unknown, words, slowing down my reading and thus learning. Perhaps coming from Spanish or Italian would make Russian easier than German? I'm curious what your native language is.
@vladoshka90144 жыл бұрын
@@setharnold9764 i guess there are hundreds of words in Russian which share the same Indo-European root or that were just taken from English, German or Latin languages. I really often just guess the meaning of the word if I don't know it's meaning, because during the development of Russian language it took lots of words from other languages.

I understood what you were trying to explain but i have a little trouble finding the word answer to one sentence so is it gonna be " я прихожу сюда каждый ден " or " я прихожу здес каждый ден " ? I am guessing сюда is the right answer since you said to use сюда when theres movement involved is that right ?
@user-pn2zm1ob2k Жыл бұрын
Я прихожу СЮДА каждый день. Сюда means a direction, if you move you need to use сюда/туда. Здесь means a location. As example: я ЗДЕСЬ работаю. I work HERE. Probably it'll be easier to understand if I say, that you can use сюда/туда when you have to use "to". I hope it's clear, I'm not a good teacher

Here I pointed out some... difference that I've seen watching other KZfaqrs, reading some books and through internet in general. Thought it may clear some doubts as I had in my own. There are in English and in Spanish 'cause is my native language and I saw more clear the kind of meanings they may have more accurate just because I'm English get short in translations in those particular words. Где? - Where (is/are)?/In where? - ¿Dónde (está/están)?/¿En dónde (está/están)? Тут - Here - Aquí /Allí Здесь - Right here - Aquí justamente Вот - Over here/Over there - Justo ahí / Justo allí Там - There - Allá Куда? - Where to? - ¿A dónde?/¿Hacia dónde?/¿Para dónde? Сюда - Here Туда - There

So one is the accusative and the other the dative analog?
@user-bi4eo3ys1f Жыл бұрын
inflection of adverbs? Yes, the second one is dative (or, more accurate, directive). The first one is locative. These cases may be implemented by different cases and prepositions depending on language. For example, in German locative implemented by dative, and directive by accusative with preposition "nach" (on) or "in" (in), or by dative with preposition "zu" (to).
