How many times have you dropped food and stained your favorite shirt? For me, too many to count. I am tired of scrubbing and trying to get food stains out of my shirts. I came across a KZfaqr's video (link below) where she made a Dining Scarf and a light bulb went off. Why not make one of my own for home. I modified it and created a Dining Scarf that does not use a lot of fabric and is a perfect project for a beginner. A basic sewing machine is the only machinery needed.
Materials:
Fabric - total of 3/4 yard of 43-45" wide fabric OR 2 pieces of fabric each 3/8 yard of 2 different fabrics to make it reversible.
Matching thread, 1-2" of 3/4" sew-in velcro (hook and loop) OR snap
Tools:
Rotary Cutter, Scissors, Ruler, Marking Pen, Clips or Pins

Thank you for watching and commenting. They are so much more dignified than a bib. Also, you can make them to match outfits or be themed for holidays. I just made myself a 4th of July one.

You are so welcomed! I am finding these scarves useful and I will be posting some more videos on them made out of different materials. I have a few ideas for where and how they can be used. I made winter ones and I must say that they kept my neck warm and didn't want to take them off after I finished eating. I appreciate your watching and commenting.

Thank you Naomi. My 58 year old sister is blind and inevitably messes a lot when she eats. I can see and can't always prevent ending up with an oily mark on my clothes! tI have been wanting to make her bibs for a long time. This is a lovely dignified way of resolving the issue without embarrassing her. She is going to love it. Simple but smart. Thank you

Thank you for watching and commenting. I’m touched by your story. I love this project because it is beginner friendly and does not take a great deal of fabric and as eloquently put is a more dignified way of solving a problem. I did a Live (Holiday Gifts: Come Work with Me) making this scarf out of 100% brushed cotton which is warmer fabric for the winter.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I made some winter ones from 100% brushed cotton (have also used 100% cotton flannel on one side on other scarves) on a Live recently (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oKphbJCQ0KvTkqM.html). I absolutely love these and am going to list them in my shop.

I have thought about making my husband an adult bib but somehow did not feel that it would be something he would feel comfortable wearing. I will make this scarf! My husband is a golfer. I can embroider a golfer on both sides using green on one side and blue on the other side. I think he will be happy to use it anywhere! Also I could embroider a collage logo on each side or simply use collegiate fabrics! Love it.! TY!
@2andor4
@2andor4 2 ай бұрын
Hi Marcy! Thanks for watching and commenting. I love your idea of embroidering a golfer on both sides of the scarf. This will make it more "masculine". Using darker plaids of brushed cotton is another way. I wish KZfaq allowed posting of photos because I would love to see what you come up with. I do have an email listed on my channel page in the description (About) if you want to email me a photo.

Brilliant. I was going to make myself an adult bib but this is classier. I can then tie this to my purse handle and have it handy when I go out to eat. Thank you for sharing.

Thank You for watching and commenting. I made myself one out of microfiber for when I brush my teeth because I kept getting toothpaste splatter on my shirts from my electric tooth brush. I added a loop at the back neck so I could just hang it on one of the knobs of my bathroom vanity. You might want to think about a loop (velcro or snap closure) so you can secure it to your purse handle/strap. Let me know if you want me to do a tutorial.

Hi Kate! Thank you for watching and commenting. I feel your pain about having to take extra tops when you travel. Now I just pack scarves to match my shirts and when I'm not eating I just keep the scarf open. I even have one in my car for the times I have to eat on the go. I am experimenting with different closures including magnetic brooches.

Thank you. I need to make one longer to my waist so that I can use it when I do dishes, etc. I do not have a dishwasher so I am always leaning up against my sink and have ruined so many shirts while washing dishes. I can also wear it when I am frying something on the stove. Once again, thank you for the “how to”.
@2andor4
@2andor4 Жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl, Thank you for watching and commenting. Thank you for giving me another idea of how to use this "scarf". I will be making another video on other uses and other fabrics to make this out of. To make it longer, either buy fabric that is 54-60 inches wide or if that isn't long enough for you just decide how long you want it and cut 4 pieces of fabric at 1/2 the total length (don't forget about seam allowances) and join 2 pieces each to make 1 side. Also, if you have an old bath towel around you might want to see if that is long enough and try to make a sample out of that for your particular use when washing dishes.

I feel you on the dinner shelf and it's always something greasy that lands right in the middle.
@2andor4
@2andor4 Жыл бұрын
Yes - grease stains are the worst. I found using some Shout stain remover and a little Dawn dish detergent and cold water to hand scrub out the stains. I then let it line dry to make sure I got it all and then throw it in the regular wash. However, I am tired of doing this which is why when I am home I use my Dining Scarf. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@2andor4
@2andor4 Жыл бұрын
Thank You for watching and commenting! You do not have to be chesty to end up with food or drips on your shirts. Depending on the fabric you make these from they really do look like scarves. For example, I have some winter ones made from brushed cotton shirting fabric and they look like regular scarves. Bonus - I found out they are nice and warm too! Check some of them out on my website: 2andor4.com under Collections-Winter Dining Scarves so you can see what I mean. Also - under my LIVE tab there is a video where I made one during a Live.

Just wondering if this needs top stitching around outer edges so it doesn't separate when laundering?
@2andor4
@2andor4 5 ай бұрын
I have not top stitched any of the ones I have made and I have washed them several times. I iron them after washing. It is my personal opinion and preference NOT to top stitch the ones I have make out of cotton type fabrics, including brushed cotton. However, I did top stitch one that I made out of microfiber (video will be coming), to use in my bathroom, because of the nature and thickness of microfiber.

Nairo - Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. It is appreciated. I have other ideas for this scarf. I want to try different fabrics that have good drape and flow which will give it a "softer" look (like a Rayon challis). I also want to make it out of warm brushed cotton shirting plaids (Joann's has a Platitudes brand) for the colder months. I am also going to use a decorative 2-sided snap which will make it look like it is a small "brooch" instead of the velcro. I too feel exposed with my "big boobs" and look to have clothing accessories to make me feel less exposed.
