I'm on a mission to save my dry, cracked hands! After some research, this is a simple recipe I made and wanted to share. I hope this helps someone as much as it has helped me!
Dr Bronner's Castile Soap - Citrus - amzn.to/3tOOUpk
1/4 tsp coconut oil
1/4 tsp shea butter
1 1/2 cups distilled or filtered water

Add a little sodium gluconate to chelate minerals in hard water for a smoother lather/rinse as well as a reduction in soap scum and streaks/spots when used for cleaning. Additionally add up to 5% alcohol as a preservative and additional mild antiseptic. When you dilute the soap, the preservatives are also diluted so if you want to store what you've made more than a couple months add some alcohol. More than 5% will mess notably with the lather and effectivity of the surfactant properties of the soap. Ethanol alcohol is kinder to skin than isopropyl, but its not that much anyways so you probably won't notice either way.

It's fun and satisfying to make your own bar and liquid soaps from scratch. Takes some research first, but you should try it!

Hi there i have an awesome recipe that you might like to try. very simple 1 cup distilled water 1/4 cup liquid honey 2/3 liquid castile soap unscented blue bottle then add your own essential oils o your choice. 30 drops of lavender, chamomile, or geranium. again your choice of essential oils. 1 teaspoon vitamin E 2 teaspoons of jojoba or switch it out for almond oil grape seed or melted coconut oil. Directions mix ingredients until smooth and if it is a tad runny add teaspoon of xanthan gum but only a little at a time slowly mix it so ithat it doesn't clump if so strain it to get rid o the excess that you don't want and restrain it again to the consistency you like once it is the way you like it pour into a BPA free plastic 8oz bottle. Enjoy.

Can you tell which xanthan gum to purchase and what is it purpose in your recipe please?

@@sylviajohnson373 I know typically in baking it's used as a thickening agent, helps hold things together better. I would imagine in soap it probably helps it have a slightly more gel-like consistency, but that's just my guess based off what I know from cooking with it

How important is the water vs just using tap to be honest? Also you didn’t mention how much soap to use in your summary but you did list other ingredients! And yea I know it’s half a cup cuz I watched the whole video :) do you also add sometimes scented oils for a nice smell?

That's a great question! Tap water has added chemicals and ours is very hard water - it smells like chlorine out of the faucet. Tap water wouldn't affect the soap efficacy but I, personally, am trying to do away with unnecessary additives/chemicals in products I use every day. I use about 1/3 cup of the castile. It's something I have experimented with alot and that amount works well for me. But you may find that you prefer less soap, or coconut milk. I buy the scented soap because I love the almond scent, the citrus is nice too! But adding essential oils would definitely work if you prefer to make your own scent. I have also added fractionated coconut oil during the cold winter months. It doesn't take much at all to help dry, cracked skin. Thank for watching! I hope this helps!

@@jarvismountainoutdoors thx for reply!! Was gonna start making laundry soup diy but I think I’ll start with hand soap first and maybe shower stuff before the laundry stuff due to some citing issues… but I also don’t have my own machines I live in a building and we all share the machines

@@nycste1982 I've been experimenting with laundry soap using castile! Once I get it tweaked, I plan on doing a video on it. I have always used Fels Naphtha bar soap with Borax and Washing soda. It works great but I'm just loving the castile soap so I have to try it! It's fun to experiment with it! You really can't go wrong. You can make it to suit your needs. Dr Bronner's has a great cheat sheet on their website for basic diluting instructions. I started there and started adding my own natural moisturizers/oils for hand soap and body wash. Some worked for me some didn't! Have fun with it, it's so much healthier for your skin!

Do you have a recipe for dish soap?
@jarvismountainoutdoors
@jarvismountainoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hello! I have not tried the dish soap recipe yet but Dr Bronner's has a recipe on their website www.lisabronner.com where you use 1 part Castile soap to 10 parts water or 1-2 Tbsp for a large sink of water, a little more if needed. There is awesome cheat sheet on that website. It's a great starting point! You can also add baking soda, and essential oils if you like your own scent. It's on my list if things to do as we try to eliminate toxic ingredients in the products we use! Maybe a future video?! Thank you so much for watching!
