Billy: I use those dipswitch-programmable interval timer boards (110V) sold on Ebay... Set up the system and measure the time it takes to just overflow your tub with fog (usually 2 min. for me). Time how long it takes for the fog to recede halfway. (usually about 12 min. for me) Set up the dipswitch timer with these ON/OFF intervals. Water never warms up now and power consumption is very low. In larger Fog tubs, control TWO fog pucks instead of one for redundancy and quicker vapor filling.

Is the particle size in the fog large enough or suspend the nutrients?
@BillyCdiy
@BillyCdiy 3 жыл бұрын
If you stir the nutrient solutions pretty well when you make the solutions, there should be very few undissolved particles. For mine, the plants grow well. However, I've been looking at even more environmental friendly ways to grow my plants, such as the autopot system and I've created a 3D printable version of it. See my other videos

Could there be an improvement from adding an airstone (so when the roots hit the water it's more like DWC + fog)?
@BillyCdiy
@BillyCdiy 3 жыл бұрын
Meow Mix yes.you can mix and match. However, more and more farms are using the new passive method using auto water level controllers and a big nutrient tank to allow the plant to absorb whatever level of nutrient it needs. Part of the roots are above the low level mark hence e pose to air without an air stone. See my other videos

@@BillyCdiy I will check out your other videos, thank you! So if I normally run airstones in a 4 gallon solution (5 gallon bucket) could I run a fogger in 1 gallon of solution w/o an airstone?
@BillyCdiy
@BillyCdiy 3 жыл бұрын
Meow Mix , yes you can try. You will not need the air stone in a perfect areoponics or fogoponics arrangement as the root will be hanging in the air and not touching the nutrient solutions.

I have changed my system from an active irrigation system to a passive one. I found that the passive system though may not give the best yield is more environmental friendly , saves electricity, avoid noises, and can still produce a reasonable harvest. See my other videos in my channel where I described different versions of such passive systems using float valve to automatically irrigate the plants leveraging the earth's gravitational force. billydiy.blogspot.com/2020/11/shallow-water-culture-passive-vertical.html

Theoretically, Fogponics and Aeroponics is better than flood and drain. between Fogponics and Aeroponics, I found that in practice, Aeroponics is easier to control than Fogponics. As the fogger tends to run hot and boil the water. If you need to use fogponics, you need to make sure the fogger is generated from another fog box instead of emerged into the same nutrient that feeds the plant. As that heats up the nutrient and end up not good.

@@BillyCdiy Run two foggers. Place one fogger in the nutrient solution that will run for 30 minutes every hour to keep heat down. The second fogger will be in a separate box of water and run 30 minutes every hour. Have both foggers alternate.

Mist maker Is not the best choice to aeroponic..You'll have failures due to the presence of salts and nutrients in water.. with aeroponic sprinklers and the correct watering timing you can grow faster than soil.

1:58 - I have never seen any scientific explanation in the "advantages" of "fogponics" being "better" than real "high pressure aeroponics (A.K.A True Aeroponics systems)". Can you please show me any valid scientific papers, articles, documentation or proof that fogponics is "better" than a true real high pressure aeroponic systems? Because NASA has already done the homework, they concluded that the plants roots absorb water effectively and efficiently at 50 microns. Which means the water mists needs to be ideally around 50 microns, anything smaller or bigger than 50 microns is not helping the plant to absorb nutrients quickly and logically. "Fogponics" makes mists around 10 or less microns which is not ideal for the roots. Fogponics is very easy to make, NASA would've used "fogponics" for the astronauts to cultivate food, but they do not use "fogponics" because it is not ideal for the roots. You can google and find the paper on NASA using High Pressure Aeroponics and their study and invention of Aeroponics.
