How to repair the vent fan in my RV. A little lengthy, sorry, as it became more problematic as I took it apart to see what all had gone bad and needed replacing. It was as much a learning experience as a fix it so I hope my effort which paid off in the end by replacing a bad switch and the fan blades will help you with the same problem!

Great video, thank you for the taking the time to make it. I hate to tell you this, but the so-called "expert" was correct about the direction of the fan, and I will tell you why: All these mini fans for campers/trailers/some RV's are made to be used in one direction - clock-wise (CW). In your case, when you remove the leads going into the 12v motor, they were most likely connected in the correct manner (either that or the previous installer hooked it up incorrectly), but you reversed them; hence why you also had reverse the blades on the fan. If there's not enough clearance, then you can push the fan a little higher into the shaft of the motor, and if that doesn't work, then I guess you didn't have a choice but to reverse it like you did. But, one thing has nothing to do with the other. In other words, if you hook the motor to rotate clock-wise (CW), then the fan itself goes with the "flat-side" facing down (as it was meant to be used). It makes sense that if you reverse the rotation of the motor, you'd also have to reverse the blades.

Good Video, I have to replace that type fan on my camper because I used a leaf blower inside to blow out a wasp nest and the extreme wind removed all but one of the blades, uv damage anyway. I'm also having same problem when I deal with the professionals and find out with a little common sense and you tube I get better results for a lot less $.

@kittyhenderson2469 If you have an independent buy ,sell, and repair dealership, you may find one. Be sure and have your old one for reference.

I would have checked the leads and swap them because I believe motor direction can be changed by switching the leads from positive to the negative side having the power that's feeding in on the other lead will swap the direction of the motor

I agree he didnt show a close up of the wires connected to each other. Beware when ordering the fan as there are two different fan shaft sizes. It says on the blade which side is up, flat side faces the motor.

1) ETERNA BOND Roof seal tape, RSW, VW,etc...mfg royal microcellant technologies HB Fuller. Use this tape on all of your seams of your ro of and any of your parts that need to be sealed as well from water. TIP: TO REMOVE this tape you use a heat gun or a hair dryer heated up and use a plastic spackle spreader they call it a joint knife if it's metal I guess, And you can once the material is softened up from the heat gun you can scrape it off and use gasoline to clean it up or mineral spirits I believe but gasoline cleans it up the best there is a video on this. 2) CHEMLINK M1- For your structural adhesive for putting your roof panels on and gluing them down. I'm sure you could probably use this for other things at your discretion I am not an expert but I'm going to use these adhesives for my camper at this point in time. 3) 3M #90- $12.98 a green can found at Home Depot and Lowe's in the paint/adhesives isles-used for your delamination or side panels of your camper that use plastic phylon FRP wood metal it does it all read the can I am not an expert. 4) DURALINK 50 used for your lap sealant I guess from what I researched it's better than dicor and RV roof repair guys I believe use this stuff because it came from someone who did their research watching their videos. Again do your research I am not an expert. And I'm going to use these materials as spoken here. Unless I need one I can rebut this info.

Sorry, but it is much easier to get up on the roof (after you open that vent 75% or more) and change out that fan blade in seconds. Dealing with that switch is completely different story, but that fan blade is a push/pull installation, and there are instructions in the fan blade itself (at least there are in mine), "This side to the motor". Then all you need to do is confirm you have a clock/or counter clock wise turning blade (Camping world offers both, so take the blade in with you... they are about $10.00 for the blade).

Learned some things. But too bad he goes slow with repetitive talking on unnecessary things and then when he actually does the work he speeds up and the viewing is from a distance, so couldn’t learn all that I needed to. But I still like parts of the video. Thanks for making it.
