Here's the shortest video I could make on this subject. I own a 2008 ML350. My left brake light warning would always go off but my bulb was never burnt. So instead of buying the repair kit for 30$. I found some 14 gauge speaker wire that worked great. I don't recommend you following my lead and I will not be held responsible for any actions you may take based of my video. Especially if there is a car fire. You have been warned.
Pink is left
Violet/black is right
14 gauge wire
I know I used the wrong brake and gauge... oops.
I can tinker not spell.

I did it to both lights and it worked great. Only took an hour to do and I already had everything I needed.

WOW going to do this on a 1999 SLK tomorrow that someone has already replaced the sockets with new ones and the problem still exists. Thanks

I recently did this fix and just T-taped into the pink wire. Used 24guage for both wires. Works! Yours still holding up or did you dump the car already? Thx for the upload man

I traded in the car in 2 years ago but this fix held up for 5 years and if the car is still alive today, I bet it still works!

Do you know if the colors are the same for face lifted 2009 ml 350

I am not sure, but I'd assume so. Try finding the wiring schematic for your vehicle.

Hopefully you didn't tap into the pink wire on your 09 Ml350... That's for the regular tail light on that model ... The pink he uses in this video only applies to 06-08 ML-350

@@califpv I installed 2 OEM Tailgate repair kits and am still having the same issues on both sides. Do you think the thicker gauge wire is what made the difference ?
