This man is the funnest comedian ever.
Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr., known mononymously as Gallagher, is an American comedian. His trademarks are prop comedy and smashing watermelons as part of his act. He had several popular HBO specials.

Legitimately the most underrated comedian of all time. He could do everything. Song, dance, physical, visual all wrapped up into one complete package. Also an extremely insightful and intelligent human being. He absolutely crushed all of his specials in the 80’s, which cemented him as a legend. King of prop comedy. RIP my friend. You were one-of-a-kind.

I think it's mainly because he was considered a "prop-comic", & they have never really gotten the respect they deserved. He didn't need to use the props, but because he ended his shows the way he did, he was just left off the list of G.O.A.T. comedians. Imo

Oh damn, I didn't know he had died! I met him 10 or 15 years back. Put on a great show at a small venue (so no sledge sadly). Got a picture with him and he stood on his tip toes because I was so much taller, lol! So many great memories of him!

As a college student, had the fortune of meeting him in an airport - a friend saw him and dared to approach him - he found out we were on our way to a meeting where I had to give a speech - he gave me a full legal size page, both sides, of jokes to use. He told us his favorite shows were college campuses. We lost a great one when we lost him.

Decades ago, I was fortunate enough to see Gallagher at the Sahara in Las Vegas. It was a late show, as is to be expected in Vegas, and the material was most certainly adult, but that didn't stop a couple in the front row from bringing their child (likely elementary school age). Gallagher came on stage, began his routine and looked down and saw the child. You could tell he was troubled and perplexed. Children were NOT supposed to be in the audience, at least to his way of thinking. He questioned the parents as to why they'd bring a child to an "adult" show and rather than wait for an answer began chastising them for doing so. He stopped, returned to his routine and a bit later returned to chastising the parents. It was obvious he was waiting for them to leave so he could begin his material in earnest. They didn't move a muscle. So he continued a bit more and didn't hold back. F-Bombs everywhere, initially to try and convince the parents to leave so he could go full Gallagher. Still nothing from Mr. & Mrs. Moron. So he ignored them, continued his show and began speaking directly to the child and cursing. Not cursing at the child, but using words, like Smegma, words the child had never heard before and then he provided the child (and by extension the rest of the audience) a definition and example. Still the parents remained, as did the child. At one point he asked the child, "Do you know you have idiots for parents?" Yeah, they are fucking morons for bringing you to my show, so let's make sure it is a show you won't forget. Then as only Gallagher can do, he abandoned his set material and began verbally eviscerating mom and dad. The impromptu attacks were funnier than any of his material, which he'd interject between admonishing the parents and using more profane words the child didn't understand (ex: pink taco), words the parents would have to explain. He asked the child if he liked tacos and then before he could answer, said that PINK tacos are the best ever and he should ask his parents to take him out for one somewhere down the strip after the show. The audience howled and the parents sat like stone. A bit later a man, who apparently took some exception to the modified material, said a couple of things I am sure he wished he hadn't. Gallagher's attention was then split between the heckler and the imbecils who brought their child to his show. Eventually the show came to a standstill as he began banter with the man who we learned was a taxi-driver of middle-eastern decent. Gallagher alternated between talking to the child, demeaning his parents at every opportunity, and the taxi-driver who become more embolden with each cocktail and attack on the parents. Finally Gallagher had had enough and began decimating the driver. His first comment was, "So you do get out of your taxis. So why don't you ever take a bath?" Without doubt it was the funniest hour of my entire life, despite having seen more famous comedians, such as G. Carlin in the late 70's.

This stuff is so funny and clever, and very insightful. It shows you how the mind works. When you hear little kids learning to speak and they make "mistakes" like saying "Gooder" - it shows that their brain is developing and understanding concepts like prefixes and suffixes and what they mean, but then we just confuse them and tell them, oh no, that's not how you're supposed to say it. It really makes you wonder if our language was more consistent and made sense if we would any better off, instead of bogging our minds down at their most formative years with wildly inconsistent rules about the language.
