Now I've listened, wondering what the cost is-will have to look it up. I use OneDrive as my backup, but recently my sync failed and had to do a live chat with FTM (after compacting..yada..yada). Result was I had to reupload my tree to Ancestry (new tree, new name there) and thus lose ALL my email invites (had to reinvite to the new tree with explanation) and all the DNA links now point to the old tree and I all the DNA tests have the old tree in their settings fixed. Grrr. Wonder if I could have rolled back if that would have fixed this situation? Hmmm.

The plan on an ftm series soon I should also show my setup I keep my files on an external drive which is synced to google drive And mirrored to a secondary drive folder on computer as well Three copies but two in same room but on two drives now case of a failure and then a copy in cloud

I've been working on Ancestry for a while (tree & dna), but I just ported my gedcom & dna data to MyHeritage, and that site is VERY different. I'd love to see some videos from you on MyHeritage DNA. BTW--I love your videos: always so informative & easy to understand!

Just to clarify it takes FTM as the correct version - so if I make changes on Ancestry tree then the synch will override those.

I believe it takes the LAST change as the correct change it CAN take changes from either way on Sync

Larry, I would love to see a detailed video on how I can create the Family Tree book in 2017-2019 version. I have tried but just can’t get it. BTW I really enjoy the individual videos you are doing on 2019 FTM. Keep it up.

One suggestion for future topics is on Reporting tricks, ie filtering to get more specific results. Looking at a specific County or Province in Europe, etc. just got my link to download FTM 2019, haven’t explored new changes yet.

I would like to see a video dna relatives for people who do not have many close relatives. Both of my parents were only children so I do not have the "vast" relative pool that many do. I am sure there are others in the same predicament. Thank you....your videos are great!

+PAM MASSUNG I was in same predicament when I started too I bought a lot of tests and others did too What you see now is 6 months of researching with aid of those contacted ( that’s why there are so many colored blue lol ). But that process was hard and I think your right, that’s an important step that is glosses over and needs a video defining

I'm trying to decide which FTM 2019 to get, the one with the USB or the one with a DVD. I have a very old version of FTM (2006) with a lot of family information. Will I be able to transfer the data in the old version. I currently have a MAC. Thank you.

id get the moden version, the change log feature alone is worth it in my opinion. although that said, i suspect there may be a newer one on horizon

We need more videos. I'm not finding much on KZfaq for using FTM 2019. I'd love to see examples in a video on using the colored dots. Hopefully you are not done making these. I love the little short videos focusing on one thing at a time.

RE: Storing data on FamilyTree Maker's Cloud...As you mentioned in the video, FT's 'Cloud' feature is 'FREE' this year, but what about future years...like next year, etc. I've used FT for years and years, but prices keep increasing and now paying for future cloud use? Not sure I want to add the extra expense and have to depend upon the cloud that continues to cost and rise in price over the years...Flash Drives are inexpensive and I have a trove of them!

i like the roll back feature and the cloud feature and yeah they have to remain price competitive or else will drop it. I personally use my FTM saved to C drive, which is robocopied to an external drive. That drive is synced with Google drive in cloud so i have a portalbe version, local version and cloud version for the price of google drive (where is store other family photos etc.) This is a nice genealogy specific feature and if kept cheap i will use it to safeguard this separately and so family can find it later (when im not here to show them) but only if it remains cost effective because like you, i have better, economical options if it goes up.

@@DNAFamilyTrees I see FTM offers a version that includes a USB drive. Can I just save my FTM to my own USB drive or do I have to purchase the version with it included?

Please don’t consider the antenna tree as a backup of your data. It is an emergency backup only and by that I mean only if you’d be happy to restore profile photos and no other media, no source citations, no note text. It’s going to serve a purpose of having access via an iphone or ipad (and eventually android) and being able to see facts marked as private that are not uploaded to Ancestry when out and about researching. But its definitely not going to be a useful backup.

Is storing on cloud an optional extra to purchase? And does one have to sync with Ancestry, or is that an optional extra to purchase also? I am just investigating FTM 2019, as my son thinks I should upgrade from my old FTM as it is very basic and I can no longer add photos. It's 2005 or 2007. I could do more on it when it was new.

the older versions are obsolete for sure. You do not have to link to ancestry or familysearch. (although family search is free so i would) there are alot of new features since that version :) you can color code lines, drag and drop photoes, pdfs, word docs etc to a persons media reference. alot of nice things. Christmas soon, might recommend that he think about that lol

why of course, i spend lots of time on videos and then blur them out so people cannot see anything :) You have to have the secret decoder screen to see my videos :) That said, i must have erred on this video because i just went through the entire video and its in focus so apparently i didn't properly out of focus things. perhaps a new prescription or stronger version of the reading glasses you use may help. SMH

Larry I am just considering purchasing FTM (never used it before). I let my Ancestry subscription expire in the summer and then resubscribe in winter. If I sync my current Ancestry trees with FTM, then let Ancestry expire, will any changes I made using FTM during the summer sync to my Ancestry trees when I renew my subscription?

yes, when u hae a subscription and hit sync it will sync up at that point :) (i often do the same, work on it at a certain time, and let it go other time when i know i wont be working on it ")

I don't have the money to use Ancestry. Show how to make a GEDCOM or a service that can convert the FTM file into a GEDCOM. I use a online service that requires a GEDCOM file to upload/update the tree. I have 2009 version but I have a family member that uses 2019. Looking for a away to me to access his file and merge it with mine.

to do that go to "file" then "export" and file type as gedcom that should do what you seek.

I have several trees. Will each one have its own antenna tree or do I have to set an antenna tree each time I open a different tree?

my wife got a new Windows 11 laptop, the old laptop is windows 10. I moved all her files under documents which included Family tree maker, After we loaded ftm 2019. no data bases showed up. After calling FTM I was told the data bases need to be rebuilt for windows 11, at a charge of 150.00...... They supposedly did that but missed several of family trees. Is there away I can do that database migration by loading a tool to do that, and upgrade or new version. What bothers me is I have built and sold about 50 Windows 11 PC's and this is the first time I have heard that a database had to be rebuilt when moved from Windows 10 to Windows 11...... ANy Ideas, or help is much appreciates........ Pete

I have duplicate people in my tree, I’m assuming from a merge of 2 trees. Not sure how I ended up with 2, but, does all documents and media stay there if I delete the 2nd person?

it may delete the data if you delete the one it is tied to. BUT you can use the merge feature. On the menu, 4th over says "PERSON" next to bottom, merge two specific individuals. OR if you want to do many of them at once, you can use the "EDIT" on the menu and then pick "Find Duplicate People" this will bring up all the duplicates and suspected duplicates in file. Make sure to not just accepted them! review each. Now if it has a 100% score it is identical and that can be merged but anything not 100% sure to be same, needs a review, even if short.

How does one get their Antenna Tree back if FTM tree is telling me it cannot find it on my computer?

I dont know, I havent had mine break to get to that point, and FTM customer service is .... "Lacking" yeah lets use that term to be polite. Ill put it on the to do list to find out but that list is pretty long at the moment so unfortunately FTM customer support might (MIGHT) actually beat me if i take a couple months to find out. (that will be a close race! vegas could give odds LOL)

Hi, can you please do a video on how to share (eMail) family tree maker 2019 with someone else. I tried to follow some ‘how to’ on KZfaq but their screen views are different then what I see on my screen and your video. They talk about FTM 2019, but does not resemble the ftm 2019 screen. Thanks...

This is what i found - www.mackiev.com/familytreemaker/ftm/ftm_feedback.html?form=languageedition says if they get 500 requests for a particular language they would work on developing it. doesnt appear there are other languages at this time.
