The real key here is “THE PURPOSE OF THE MOTOR” These HP gains were made at MAX RPM I am not racing my engine but doing street and daily driving…needing drivability and low end torque There fore if I wanted headers it would be for looks = small tube long length
@redbarron36952 жыл бұрын
I would guess the same as you but torque is up all the way around, substantially at low RPM. (“Low RPM is 4500 lol) Seems the larger tube wins on this application.

A motor is literally a giant air pump the more you can get in and burn and the better you can get it out will make more power
@midnightrider1854 Жыл бұрын
Assuming that you can get the compression ratio and timing tuned to burn the massive amount of air/fuel mixture that you are stuffing into the engine. Then you have to match the exhaust flow length and diameter to match to make a balanced flow. That's where the power is at. 🙂👍

Project Suggestion with Power Nation associates: Build 70-72 Buick GS, Skylark or Skylark Custom as a "BASE" Buick GS. Premise: in 1974 only, Buick produced a 2BBL 455. If available, dyno as is then bring up to almost '70 spec with the 2 barrel then dyno again. Base GS: manual brakes, front aluminum finned brake drums, manual steering, NO a/c, base factory steering wheel, floor mounted Hurst shifter, HD 3 speed manual transmission, HD clutch, bench seat, stock dashboard, hood-mounted tach or steering column mounted tach, 15" steel wheels with Buick dog dish hubcaps, tires equivalent to G or H60-15s, HD shocks, HD coil springs, HD front and rear sway bars, 3:08 or 3:23 posi-traction differential, Buick AM radio, stock heads, stock exhaust manifolds, stock 2 barrel intake manifold (internally polished) and any other "Base" factory stock components I might have forgotten. In 1974, Buick Le Sabre could be ordered with the 2bbl 455.I hope this suggestion gives you inspiration to possibly build this project car. Thank You

The way I understand it is that smaller horsepower engines like mild small blocks that aren't built to breath very well in the top end don't really benefit from large tube headers like 2.5 inch or bigger and will lose some low end grunt where the engine is designed to live and also smaller tubed headers like 2 inch or even 1 3/4 inch Tri-Y headers are a good choice for these type engines, on the other hand if you have a small block built for top end horsepower at the expense of low end torque then bigger, short tube headers like 2 1/2 or 3 inch can benefit in the upper RPM range allowing it to breathe better. If it breathes too much for how your engine is built then you don't have enough back pressure for good low end torque and on the other hand if you have small diameter longer tubed headers on an engine that's built for higher horsepower then you're restricting the exhaust too much and it can't breath when it needs to. It all depends on what the engine is built for. Also a crossover or X pipe put in at the right point, where the heat build-up is at it's highest point in a dual exhaust pipe setup, will also equalize the exhaust pressure and pulses which help scavenge the exhaust which helps with low end torque as well.
