Do I really have a battery discharge with the head unit?

Never mind a fancy head unit like that. I'd need a full blown live band and concert style speaker system playing in mine to be able to hear anything. Good looking unit and quite some features on it.

just amazing how you turn a spare part to a lovely functional unit - chapeau! if it is possible i would install a master power switch or something like this to the unit. sometimes you dont want to have it turn on and this unnecessary turning on and off you could avoid

Nice job Mike. I put the camera on a switch and mounted the camera high so I can check receiver alignment and to see how my trailer is doing while heading down the road. Some head units require that the vehicle be in park for videos (DVD) to play - again you can switch this or bypass this. Keep the content coming.

I’ve got a few of these units (different makes and models) Mike and the behaviour is different. Stuff like the clock time zone etc should be remembered in the units memory (not backed up by battery) and should only be reset by you physically requesting the unit to reset to factory settings, and the “fast start” works usually up to 2-3 days before the unit goes back to long boot up sequence, to save power. Be interesting to see the power wiring as I’ve read some units need the permanent and ignition live switching (despite what they might say in schematics/manuals) - any road I hope you get sorted. I can’t explain the defaulting to China time on that 2nd boot!

If your aux socket is always live wired then you could plug in one of those dash top solar panels which will trickle feed your battery and more than compensate for the parasite draw by the head unit.

Indeed, I could- I was thinking about this - I do not use this truck all that much, so may be worthwhile!

you did make me nervous leaving a spanner across the top of your battery, I was waiting for the bang 🤨

Great news you've got almost zero parasitic drain. Not sure about your head unit but most computer equipment will have a small chip and button cell battery on the main circuit board to remember all the settings. Also, are you sure that your dash USB socket can accept power "in"? Couldn't see the other end of your USB lead but most will have a micro/mini/usbc type for charging the battery pack... You then use the USB A/B on the pack for charging your devices. (Hope that makes sense).

Well, if the dash USB was not accepting power in - why did it keep the settings except the clock ? Whereas full battery disconnect, wiped out the lot - except all that was in ROM? A far as I can see these units are not like computers and do not have a battery back up to maintain memory So pretty poor in my opinion

The onboard battery should keep basic settings. Many other (not just computer) devices have a small cell on the motherboard (sometimes it's even a capacitor). I suspect that the head unit IS retaining some settings but not everything that's set within the OS (android) in this case
@tima5673
@tima5673 15 күн бұрын
Also worth considering that these modern head units that run an OS like android, are very much a computer (hence the octo-core microprocessor). So will need much longer to write any settings to ROM whenever you've made a change. Just did some googling and it seems by default this brand defaults to a very long (up to 5 minutes) before it truly goes into deep standby. So may be worth: Entering all your preferences again. Go for a drive - then choose power off-standby before turning off ignition. Turn off isolation switch. Leave a good while before again to see if it's retained all your settings. If the answer is No, you either have a duff unit or Atotos implementation/ coding is crap.

I have an older atoto A4 and had the same battery drain issues, it was the canbus decoder, I removed it and it was OK, I put the reverse camera on a switch, the pluss side is I can use it as a rear view mirror, which I didn't have prev 👍

Put a Anderson plug in, great for boosting and other things, so all in all it's good, nothing is shagged out.

You know it has a quick start function Mike? Doesn’t go through the boot every time then and small draw to keep it live. Sorry if you said that watching two videos at once!

If you get a small lead acid battery connection it to the permanent live with a relay to ignition live to charge it that's what I have done plus a soler panel to keep the main one up if parked up for long periods with alarm on battery cut off from starting and the rest of electrics

Very strange to lose the account after disconnecting the battery. That should not happen. Though I don't have experience with your specific one, Mine has never done that. Also keeps the time zone, but will take till it gets GPS to correct the clock.

So it seems to me, that details are not stored in the ROM, but in RAM - as with a computer - if data is not stored on a hard drive or the like, it has gone when the power goes off - in these units it is important the constant power is not disrupted - and it only takes a few milli amps, so no big deal. BUT it seems when I used the power pack, data was saved on the ignition feed = but not on the constant feed which may account why I lost the clock settings

57ma is nothing. Most cars drain when left. My e34 and p38 both drain after a few weeks. I just make sure i go out and start them for 5min every now and again. as other have said could mount a small solar panel on the roof and it will probably keep it topped up indefinatly.
