For the first time in more than 17 years, the building that was once home to The Stockade shop amongst others, was made accessible.
Located on the corner of Barrack and Wellington Street, it had been boarded up continuely over the years. Like many vacant old buildings in the city, squatters would find a way in, every so often.
It has been a very difficult journey so far, to document and photograph many of Perth’s old or landmark buildings for the Streetkid Industries website database.
Walking away from this golden opportunity was not an option!
The history summarised in this video is very brief. Like most of the some-300 buildings we have so far documented and photographed for Streetkid Industries, researching historical information, records and personal accounts has not yet been possible due to typical time constraints.
If you are able to assist us with accessing any historical and/or important buildings in Perth city, let alone the metro area for the purposes of a thorough photography session, please contact us via our Streetkid Industries Facebook page.
