DON'T BUY Lowering Springs!!! Here's Why...

Lowering springs for your Charger, challenger, 300, Magnum & other mopars can lead to your tires scrapping against the wheel well. In this I talk about other options of there then just lowering springs to help you if you're looking into this. Maybe a nice coilover kit is your best option.

I prefer BC racing coils. They’re fully adjustable, comfortable, handle great and are rebuildable. You can get a set for around 1k which isn’t bad considering they come with camber plates up front and optional plates for the rear. You can essentially spend way more on coil overs but I don’t see the need for daily/weekend track car.

@john smith opinions are like assholes everyone has one. 😂 😂 😂 BC’s are cheap, dependable, rebuildable and comfortable. You’ll lose no suspension travel with any coil-over system no how matter how low or high you go and the spring rates are generally much stiffer than stock. Combine that with being fully adjustable to your preference and the convenience to change ur settings in minutes makes them a great modification. Buy springs and your stuck with that ride height. So if u change ur wheels to something different you can’t adjust anything to make them work. I have Eibach springs with Koni struts on my 300C and BC coil-overs on my Q50. Prefer the BC’s ride and stance much more.

Okay my friend, you're a newbie at this. Don't take offense because you're learning! I'm glad that you joined the foray of modifications and hot rodding that is great to see it continue. What you're experiencing is wheel offset. You're going to have to find the right wheel setup to get your tires tucked in more than likely roll your inner fenders for clearance to maintain that Wide Tire. You may have to step back to the 305 and it sounds like a loss of tire but with proper suspension setup you will be getting better launch and traction than your friends withl 315

Yeah, sounds like you don’t fully understand the correct Fitment of your wheels, tires, and suspension. I’m sure with a damper shock, lowering springs, correct height/wheel and tire combo, you can achieve a few different setting, including launching.

It’s not a spring problem it’s a wheel and tire problem. Might want to get the right info before misinforming others. I have lowered 90 Mopars with Eibachs and if the wheels are made with the proper offset and you stay within proper tire sizes you won’t have any issue. I run a 20x11 with a 305/35r20 and it has no issues.

first off, love the videos and thank you for responding to my comments and answering my questions. My question regards this topic on springs or coilovers. I have my "project 496" started and wanted to know what spring rate setup should I go with? This is obviously a much heavier motor going into my build so I need to definitely make adjustments to the suspension. I've been able to make the engine lighter by removing the heavy iron heads and installed aluminum heads which has shaved off roughly 80lbs off the engine. So my engine started off life weighing 760lbs and is now 680lbs. I understand that the hellcat supercharged engine weighs 675lbs???? Would that suspension setup be adequate or something stronger...?

Good video I to did lowering springs on my Rt challenger at first yeah it was hella nice looking and cornering but then it’s really bouncy . Any time you lower a car or truck you change the geometry from stock . So with that said you have to start changing parts . First you need to match the shocks and struts to your spring because the OME ones will not do the job . Then you have to worry about alignment issues so you all done
@gracilism

This is all because he has 315 wide rear tires. That takes the perfect size wheel offset to work and still likely needs wheel well mods. You're at the max. A 305 would have been easier to fit. But you'll have no issues with a stock 245/45 or the very common 275/40 sized tire.

I have the Eibach Sportline Coilovers, same springs just with the sport shocks. Not adjustable unfortunately but a great quality product for the price. Paid only around $750 I believe. I never scrape but do have to watch out for sidewalks and parking blocks. Without the alignment kit I was still able to get my Challenger within factory specs after a wheel alignment. Rides better than stock and isn’t to much more rough and stiff than factory coilovers. Since you do have the springs already an option for you could be just to get the sport shocks from Eibach since the springs do come with a 1 million mile or 10 year warranty. But you should look into spacers as well since you do have some pretty big tires. Just giving you a option just in case you were wondering like I was brutha!✊🏼 Congratulations btw on the subs! My own experience with the lowering and sporty springs stuff, yes handling is better , yes will look nice and sporty, but as you said the tires issues, the comfort of the ride issues (one of the big advantage of the charger its, if you wanna go nuts or race you can if you wanna ride in a comfortable car you can to and comfort its something that you lose to with that springs) the last thing you may lose its drag performance because you will lose grip probably and I say probably because I haven't test it in the hellcat, my car its not good at launches in track mode aka hard suspension because I lose the weight transfer to the back that the cat need to take off, the ability to transfer weight on launches its something that you may lose with that kind of suspensions, no weight transfer less grip and more tire spinning. As always thanks for your honest opinions about your stuff.

A bit pricey I know but my wheel offset is similar to yours and my front tires poke a bit too. This works for me for autocross. Yes lowering springs are not for more track oriented guys/girls, these are for let say improved road spirited and mainly daily driving. In your case Coilovers will be the right way for you. Also lowering springs are not good in case you would like to go with much wider rims and tires. I am using eibach pro-kit more than year now, it is not to crazy, but as I said, still I have stock rims and tires. And as a daily driver I am more than satisfied. But If I will go more crazy later on, then I am going with coilovers.

I just installed some Ford Performance lowering springs on my new 2021 mustang and I noticed almost no difference. The front looks slightly better but overall the look changed almost not at all... what did happen is that when I went to get my car aligned apparently it was so off that they had to replace the camber bolts even though the car was only at 860 miles driven at the time. End of the day I spent 800 some bucks all together parts, installation and alignment after for no visual difference at all.

My car is stock ride height. The Chargers tend to dig in the front end a lot more than the Challengers do. My girlfriend's stock RT has NO such problems with its ride height. One thing I do now is back into parking spots with concrete curbsides next to them. Since I started doing that I've stopped destroying my car.

Rubbing isn’t really the fault of the springs, with aggressive stance you have to modify the fenders. And cheap springs like eibach are made of silicon chrome steel, which always have harsh ride regardless of spring rate. That’s just the characteristic of the steel, better dampers will help but the ride quality will be pretty bad. There is a Japanese springs company called Swift Springs, they are linear springs with amazing ride quality and response. You can run those with or without damper upgrades, it’s going to be more comfortable. That being said, they don’t make it for every car, only a select list. Also when you lower, most rear cambers can’t be adjusted, so you’ll likely need adjustable rear camber arms. Another thing you need in the front is some type of roll center kit that will push the control arm back down once the car is lowered.

Had a horrible experience with the Eibach Sporlines myself. It "settled" WAY too low, causing it to be essentially "undrivable". I bottomed out and scraped practically at all times. Ride comfort took a nose dive too, every bump felt like a crater. Sitting low is one thing, but you really need springs with a much better "spring rate" (very bouncy ride too) or coilover kit so ride quality is preserved, somewhat. Shame I wasted to close to $300 on the springs plus install, just to shell out more dough to put my stock springs back on, although i did upgrade my shocks to Bilstein B6's along my stock springs. #liveandlearn!
