Hello, my good Canadian. Professional American here. Please be advised that McDonald's does not serve chicken nuggets. They serve McNuggets. And that is an important distinction. No, they do not taste like chicken nuggets. They taste exactly as a McNugget should. Just like the cheese sauce in Kraft Macaroni and Cheese does not taste like cheese. It is not trying to. It is doing its own thing, and yes, some people are confused and horrified by whatever that thing is. Others are intrigued and mystified, and feel the need to eat more in order to better understand the pathology of these food crimes. Also, for many of us, it's a flavor of childhood that cannot be replicated by actual food. We know it's bad for us, but so was eating Play-Doh and we did it anyway.
