Throw a spacer between the two bearings / wheel. It will help to keep them supported and in line on the axle. It will also help to keep the bearings from being torqued and twisted as the wheels flex an move under load, especially on non-cored wheels (wheels with hard plastic inner core holding the bearings and supporting the wheel - like many Ricta wheels.)

I used to get packs of Reds with spacers in the box, haven't seen them in the shops for a while now.

You need some bearing spacers to keep tension and pressure off the inner ring of the bearing

I started watching your videos a few weeks ago, and you have inspired me to get back on the board after about seven years. I was about 12-13 when I originally began. I started with simple cruising to regain comfort on the board, and I was terrified of falling as well as the cracks on a sidewalk (the ones that break your mother's back). After a few minutes of thinking I realized that if I go fast enough (which isn't super fast) I am fine. I am excited to get back out there (though it has been raining a lot where I live in Florida so who knows) and it felt really good to be back on the board. Like riding a bike, except the last time I rode a bike I was very uncomfortable! As of right now, my current goal is to get comfortable with rolling down things. I've never been comfortable with rolling down things, and I really want to break that cycle. My main goal is to finally learn how to ollie, but that will come with time. I will take the small wins whenever I can! So thank you for the inspiration. I have the same deck from sevens years ago, and I definitely need to get new wheels and bearings (or maybe a new deck as a whole?), but I am not too sure where to go for skate stuff. Help would be appreciated!

Completely depends on where you live. The absolute easiest way would be to just go to your local skateshop and grab some stuff. If you don't have a skateshop check online, there are hundreds of resources for all sorts for skateboard anything.

Bronsons are way way better than Reds. Similar price but, better quality and they are basically Indy blacks but, cheaper since Bronson is a big distributor so other bearing companies purchase from bronson whole sale then re package .

I used to break a lot of bearings ,before i was thinking it was cus I never use the spacers between the bearings but then i started putting a drop of oil on each bearing just one drop let it sit n try to dry (the outside)the best ,a dry dry bearing its metal against metal and u are in texas (very hot)so the "gasket" that keeps the bearings balls get really hot then deforms making the "whole" bearing go bye bye (soy mexicano disculpen el mal ingles jajaja)

Swiss ceramics take a while to break in, maybe a month or so. They last forever though. In my experience the best way to unlock their full potential, skate em for a month or two, clean em very well, use 1 good drop of speed cream per bearing, sheilds back on... they'll feel better than any Red ever will.
@robertbaker3620
@robertbaker3620 Жыл бұрын
Also anyone considering ceramic bearings, take a look at Bronson ceramics. They come with 16 extra sheilds, extra washers, extra rubber raceways, and the package all of it comes in is a cleaning unit. Really good deal, really good quality.

Ceramics are actually pretty good and durable. You just have to maintain them and clean them. I’m not sure what the deal with John’s bearings is. The photo he showed was of the 16 pack of them for rollerbladers. I’m curious if he got the 7mm ones that are for smaller roller skate axles and that’s what’s causing them to break. Hard to tell. He only talks about them for like 10 seconds haha.

If you don’t have spacers between the bearings most of them will explode at some point, it’s funny how this piece of knowledge just disappeared sometime in the 2000’s for a lot of people, just like the fact that the «spinn the wheel»-test doesn’t tell you anything about the roll of bearings, other than if you have tightened the wheel too much or not (again, USE SPACERS, they have a purpose, just like bearing shields and bearing oil/grease/speed creem) :)
@Ben_B_Artist
@Ben_B_Artist Жыл бұрын
when you say spacers, do you mean the washers? Or actual metal sleeves, cos I've only had one set of wheels that came with the sleeves. I took them out, haven't had any bearings explode (but I don't use my board as much as John does) but I did wonder how necessary they were...
@AndreSjoberg
@AndreSjoberg Жыл бұрын
@@Ben_B_Artist spacers are the metal sleeves/tubes/metal pipe parts that go between the bearings inside the wheel to stabilize them - Washers are used on the outside to make the bearings (shields specifically) not come in contact with the hanger or the nut. Most nuts and hangers are now shaped so they have a small protruding section to make sure the shield doesn’t come in contact with nut/hanger, but depending on price/quality of the truck these might not always be well cast, so washers are a «safety» to make sure it doesn’t happen. Without the spacer a *lot* of force is applied sideways to the inner or outer bearing on the part of the bearing closest to the axle, pushing the inner cylinder of the bearing - with a spacer that force is dispersed on both bearings resulting in a lot less stress on the bearings.

What did you expect after something like 20 years of skateboarding and like 10 years pro. Of course you get really good, when you train a lot for a long period. I myself skate over 30 years. And yes I am nearly not as good as John Hill. But I studied and work 90% on my job. So clearly I do not have the same amount of time on my board. But I still learn new tricks and I absolutely love skateboarding
