I am a tech at main dealer and we don’t see an awful lot of them, I have seen more roller issues on 3.0 than the 2.9’s, the thing is unless it’s affect a majority of vehicles it’s not worth it for them, they will just pay on a case by case basis under factory warranty if it is covered etc… Annoying I know but I do see lots I would expect to be a recall!

I wouldn't want to go longer than 50-60k miles between valve cleanings, especially if the car was tuned. This would make the SQ5 like the b5 Audi S4 v6tt for me. I have a B9 S5 that had a version of this issue. At about 60k miles I noticed a sound very like a failed lifter or a tappet badly out of adjustment, so called the dealership and took it in. They ultimately discovered a single rocker with what looked to be a missing needle, but absolutely nothing in the oil, no issues otherwise. Replaced all the rockers with the updated units, and a camshaft for good measure. I always take all the parts from these jobs home just to look them over and the bad rocker had all the movement of the one you show, and looked like it had a missing needle, so I took a grinder to it and pulled the center pin out. What I found was fascinating...all the needles were present, and the center pin had been worn on one half so much that it looked a bit line a small camshaft. The 'missing' needle was just rotated inside the roller. It reminds me of the issue with cam adjuster pin hardness on some 4.2s (like the one in my C5 allroad). My suspicion is that QC failed to notice inadequate hardening at multiple stages in the supply chain and this is the result. To their credit Audi let my service advisor decide what needed to be done, after he asked what I wanted replaced, and the car hasn't had a hiccup since. All under warranty, thankfully! I'm going to set all the parts of the rocker in resin as a paperweight.

@Steve_with_coffee Жыл бұрын
@@daveross4091 Yeah, I bought the extended warranty when I bought the car. First gen teething problems and all, but I tend to keep my cars for a long time so it's an expense I can live with. However, this is a QC issue like the oil consumption issue and Audi should cover it in any case. If you want, I'll sent pics of the rocker I took apart. That they redesigned them tells us all we need to know. I was lucky that all the needles stayed in and the entire rocker didn't jump out, but like the cam adjuster pin hardening problems in the past, or poor quality chain ramps, or oil consumption, it's something they need to address up front. The PR would be great.

Hello my friend what about the S5 diesel engine on the uk spec 2020 model year. Its only done 7500miles. Are there any similer issues with the valve train. Hope you can update thanks.

I believe the new rocker arm revision is actually after June 2018 from what I can see on the forums. The build date of the engine needs to be after that to make sure you get the new revision. I am not sure where they July 2019 date came from.

I was calling TPS using all sort of different registration available on market and compared the part numbers . July 2019 onwards the rocker arms are upgraded from factory under new part number

@@VAGTechnic so you are saying that even though the new rocker arm part revision came out in June 2018, it only started being included in vehicles after July 2019?

@@waelal-zubieri5358 You can bet it took them a year to roll out the changes to the production line itself.

@@waelal-zubieri5358 You think they threw out the old parts they had built for the line? Hell no, they ran them through until the loss slop was tolerable. Let the customers have the bad parts, deal with it later thus offloading a lot of the upgrade cost to insurance companies and owners. Business.
