This was fun to watch! So many of your reactions gave me flashbacks to when I first played this map, especially your epiphany about the well water valve/boomstick and incredulity about the silly step switch and valve in the bushes. Grove requires lots of patience, but it’s well worth it in the end. It’s very close to my heart and I’m glad you featured it. PS: I’m not “anonymous” haha

This reminds me of certain old school adventure games where you'd be able to explore freely, but you'd often run into places you can't get into or enemies you're unable to defeat. The only hint you're on the wrong track is suddenly getting obliterated by a monster or being softlocked in a trap. Good times!

Ah, the work of B.P.R.D., dark and cruel, yet so unique and weird Absolutely eerie and otherworldly experience, i love the atmosphere and ideas in this map Even the well softlock feels kinda... in right place, which perfectly works with map and it's essence And even though Grove can be kind of "frustrating and unfair, dragging" experience, there's something that makes it special and pretty interesting. .. The spooky and fiting darkness... The atmosperic adventure... Never thought i will be scared by baron together with decino and here we are... And even the vile archie in darkness, architecture, spooky scary revenants, disturbing key, the switch with "you", scarcity of resources... It just works well together And yeah, the MIDI and sky, it's just hits perfectly in the spot Just beautiful, i love it I watched the entire thing and jumped in same places, as you are, lmao I wonder, how long is initial non edited footage ?

I would never have patience to play this myself, so I'm glad to at least watch you play. What an experience! Truly the work of a madman xD Btw, maybe you should start using saves in these cases where you want to play all the way through blind, after realizing a map is too difficult or cryptic. Cause one thing no mapper expects is someone to play their maps for the first time without saves and having to restart everything if they die. Just a suggestion...

If you can stomach it, it'd be great if you could play dobu gabu maru's iconic The Given and his very underrated Moonlight, which might not have nearly as much doomcute but it makes up for it with a great story and excellent music.

"catched" instead of caught is not technically incorrect but a bit "dated", considering that people stopped using it around 200 years ago 😅 In the early 19th century (starting 1800) the irregular caught replaced the regular catched. The reason why both exist is that they have different origins. There were two words "catch" in the English language, one from old English (that one had the past tense catched) and one imported from French (that one had the past tense caught). Both had similar meanings but not exactly the same and the way we use the word "catch" today matches the French meaning, so the French one basically survived.

That stunned silence at 1:14:59! I could hear your brain going "What the hell?!" from The Netherlands all the way to here in Venezuela :P This map is such a gem like no other. It can be really, REALLY confusing and frustrating on a first playthrough, but once you're done it stays with you forever. And I love that it's absolutely uncompromising on it's puzzle design, if it was easier or more hand-holdy it wouldn't be anywhere as memorable as it is. I can absolutely see why people say that it's like playing Myst but in Doom. Not that anyone cares, but to me no other puzzle map will ever top this one. It's combination of whimsy and brain-melting difficulty is just so unique. To me it brings back memories of playing games like Legend of Kyrandia or King Quest V, and Myst of course.

Grove is in a league of its own. It's Doom for sure, but it feels like something more than that. The hidden alien message, the starlight column - it's so odd to see in a Doom map, but still so captivating. I hope B.P.R.D knows how much he's affected people from his work. All the same, it was really fun to watch you play this blind, especially after having done a playthrough of it myself. I actually let out an audible "No... no!" when you first came across the "You" switch haha. Thanks for playing this and for another great video!

Sorry for the late post so I wanted to say that I literally just watched this mod from LBF 10 days ago and this mod is fun, but there is a problem with this map like you see in the dark as much at all which is never a good thing. Light Amp is nice to have, but it's not enough for you to find everything as literal as possible so therefore it's a pain to see alot of stuff everywhere. That 1 secret with a tiny symbol is very cryptic not letting us know at all. *sigh* Well even though it has flaws, I still think this map is really good and therefore I like it. Great job decino. anonymous did a pretty good job as well for this submissions. Can't wait for next one. 😄

@PSpencer
@PSpencer Жыл бұрын
To be fair to BPRD, NUTS.WAD was originally meant to test Doomworld's file-uploading system, as BPRD wasn't quite sure how to go about sending wads to Doomworld (being the early 2000's, it required using FTP programs to upload to Doomworld's servers, instead of just dragging-and-dropping or using Google Drive like you can today). So he threw together nuts.wad in ten minutes and threw it up to make sure it worked before then uploading Equinox.

This is one of those creative endeavors that suffers from not being a stand alone game, because of the assumptions and general mindset a player has from the game that the map is made in pollutes how a player will approach it. It kind of reminds me of some of the ambitious Minecraft adventure maps, that are really obtuse to play because the creator hasn't found that sweet spot of communicating information while not hand-holding the player through everything.
