@@DrAlexGeorge sometimes we need those down days. Hoping for more positive days for you. Especially right now, taking each day at a time is so important. Also, I'm currently only a first year student paramedic at St George's so can't offer you that much advice on the medical front but I believe that what your heart truly lies with will come to you eventually. Have faith in yourself and trust your gut. Sometimes when I'm stuck between two things, I weigh up the pros and cons of each thing, but ultimately I trust my decision will be the right one for me. You are doing amazing and will do, regardless of the path you take ❤

The fact that you are so actively caring for others in a time of immense grief is just a testament to the person you are. I'm grieving at the moment too and at the end where you said sometimes you wake up and dont understand at all, and other times you have a grip of it, really spoke to me. I didnt realise that was part of the grieving process until you said it, so you are not alone in that and neither am I. Thank you so much for everything you do, best person to come out of Love Island! I am so glad you got this platform to share what you do, because you really are making a difference right now, as well as with the plans you have in place for the future. Be gentle to yourself and know that this community is here for you too!

My sister worked in A&E for years and never wanted to be a GP, but after a few years and when she was planning a family she actually decided to move to GP, and she absolutely loves it. Largely for the stable working hours - more family appropriate as her husband is a consultant so it often on call, so its nice that one of them is at least in a more routine/time-predictable setting. I know you don't have children so that's less necessary for you - BUT, I do know, that despite never ever fancying GP, she absolutely loves it and has been there happily for many years now.

Dr Alex you asked about the grieving process. I lost my husband of 28 years to cancer. My take on grief is that you never get over it. It's like losing a limb - you learn to adapt. I'm 10 years since his death. Life will never be the same but the rawness does abate. I'm so very sorry about your brother. The work you're doing for mental health is amazing. Please keep it up. I wish you nothing but strength and support in the road ahead. God bless.

Hi Alex, love your videos they give me a sense of calmness. I’ve also had a horrendous year and am also dealing with some hard stuff. I’ve found that I am absolutely dreading the cold/dark nights and also Christmas as it used to be my favourite time of the year but just can’t get into the spirit this year as I’m dealing with a lot of grief, not from death but from so much change and hurt in my life that has happened. And Christmas to me is happy, colourful and jolly which I am none of at the time being, so it’s going to be a struggle. Just know You’re not alone Alex, so many of us can relate to your struggles. Thankyou for talking about it and I hope you find peace soon❤️🙏🏼

At 62 it was a terrible shock . I would love more updates on the pandemic on the front line too . Take care we have really taken you to our hearts stay safe and well ❤️

Thank you Alex for just being there. It’s very comforting in these anxious times. I have severe asthma and the threat of covid is real. I love your videos and interesting go to learn you are at a crossroads in your career. What would be the most fulfilling? I think that currently the buzz of a & e is a plus factor as opposed to being in a gp practice. However you are such a people person but surely being in the frontline where you can visibly see you are helping people would be better than referrals. Plus I don’t see you being able to give just ten minutes to each patient work!!!! You are such a good person. I hope you find happiness. I’m still grieving from the loss of my parents twenty years ago. I don’t think it ever goes away just something you learn to live with. Just be there for your parents. They must be so proud of you. Would love to see more vlogs from the frontline. Find it weirdly comforting to see, first hand, what you’re dealing with. There’s so much speculation in the media and online, so it’s nice to get that insider perspective, whether that be positive or negative. Keep up the great work 💙

I definitely think you are the go to person for, calming and to the point advice with regards to the covid situation. I'd like to hear about how the frontline is managing etc. Be kind to yourself, grief never leaves you, it comes in waves. You are doing fantastic work, wanting to help others and break the stigma around mental health. Infact you already are💙

Totally agree with mental health education. Poor mental health can manifest itself in so many different ways. Eating disorders, self harm, bullying, aggression etc. can all be a sign of poor mental health. I suffered from bulimia in my early 20's....nothing to do with being skinny, it was more of a control thing as my personal life was taking a sharp nose dive at the time. I kept it under control through exercise for the next 10 years, but it would have been easier and quicker to properly rehabilitate if I had more knowledge and better skills to do it. Alex, we're all aware that you live in your own which must be hard considering what you're going through and the fact we're going into Lockdown 2. We're all here for you when you need us. Keep chatting my friend. ♥️

Not sure what I can add to what already has been said. The love you have for your brother will always be there. The videos you make are so helpful and genuine and I know help so many others. When it comes to a choice between A&E or GP practice, follow your heart. If your heart has not yet told you which way to go, just give it a little more time and it will let you know 💕

First time I'm finding you - saw your lovely face - Couldn't believed your energy and your passion even in this time. With all the the plates you have to choose from, I wonder which it will be? I had to go to doctors 2dys ago and wondered why you would be a GP with all the continued mundane everyday things you have to deal with. I couldn't be a GP. Look forward to following you with interest on your quest. 🙂 An admirer

Thanks for everything you do Dr Alex. I’m not sure you realise how reassuring you are to us, from your honesty to reassurance, to advice. You would be AMAZING in a GP practice! My only concern is that GPs just do not seem to have the time to help with mental health and I wonder if that would cause you frustration too. Best of luck with all of your mental health work, we are all backing you 100% xx

I'm a therapist and things are incredibly difficult for services now. Our mental health is in pieces and we are horrendously overworked and under resourced. Covid has definitely had an impact but things were tough before then. I do feel the tide is beginning to change and hopefully as people demand change, services will get funding.

Hi Alex, You are an inspiration to us all. Regarding your future, I have two points - a career isnt everything - I literally worked so hard for so long, the stress gave me a stroke at 35, and secondly - you are in a fairly unique position with your fame, your kindness and your talents in healthcare - maybe you should look at something bigger that may help more people, the media is an obvious choice? However - in regard of point one - look after yourself first and that gives hou the ability to help others. Take Care.
