Dragon Age: The Veilguard as it is called has received some new information. Will it be enough to save Bioware and the IP? I guess we will have to wait and see...

To me, the name 'Dragon Age: Dreadwolf' just hits harder from the outside looking in. But we shall see if this name fits better after playing.

Dragon age origins is a masterpiece. A work of art.its like reading a good book that you can put down. The graphics and lighting are like a painting that just blends in with subtle colours and lighting is just beautifull. The story and gameplay equally as good. I doubt whether any other dragon age game will stand up to it. I'm not holding my breath.

I think you are right in a sense. It is do or die for them so they have to put all they can into it...and I guess they are confident enough for a showing....we'll just have to wait until 11/6...

What sustained my love of Dragon Age has always been the story & lore not to mention great character writing. It is why I still love DA2 even though it was objectively poorly made in terms of gameplay and level design. Same with DAI, whereas better than DA2 the game play included a bunch of boring busy work but I still loved the story development and world building. What I find worrisome is all the staff turnover related to the new DA game especially with the writers. I'm afraid that the new DA game will break all the world building and character development of the previous games and give us a lackluster story. I can forgive poorly designed gameplay (to an extent) but even the greatest gameplay won't redeem the game if Bioware breaks the DA world established in the prior games.

I have a feeling that its not going go well. Bioware has never seemed to do combat well. I dont see how a system that worked for a cover based shooter like mass effects would work in a fantasy setting. Mass effect combats devolved into a game of peekaboo. How will that work with swords i dont know.

Have you played Mass Effect Andromeda?? People can say what they want about the story but the gameplay top tier. Definitely the most fun combat in the franchise, and its definitely not cover based like the other mass effect games. Dragon age Vanguard is in the same engine too and since bioware said they focused a lot on the combat (like they did in andromeda) i think its going to have some very fun action

Honestly seeing someone play that newish game stray gods by the dragon age writer. I say that perhaps dragon age was a bit of a fluke or that even they weren't immune from modernity.

I loved Dragon Age Origins, what drew me to it was the lore, the different creatures, the darkspawn, the music, the characters, the dark fantasy tone and the banter. I wasn't a fan of Dragon Age 2 and as for Inquisition, well it was a step in the right direction. I'm curious to see how this new Dragon Age game will do.

i like the story and characters for dragon age 2, with the Templars vs mages conflict and the stuff about Qunari was very interesting, the main villain for inquisition corypheus didn't really feel that special, the Qunari felt watered down and the story didn't rally feel interesting unto the trespasser dlc

I am with you on this! I don't understand the name change this late in game development! I have also heard that our Main character is NOT special in any way! In every other game we were unique in some special way! I am also iffy on the combat changes! I love the Dragon Age story & I hope they don't ruin that too! We will see!!!

Tuesday we shall see. I really want it to be good. I'm playing DAO now (saving often because it crashes often on my modern PC at 3440 x 1440 ) and all these years later it is still a fantastic game. I'd love for the Dragon Age series to continue, the story is good, the lore is good, and the games have given us some really great characters.

Basically Mass Effect Andromeda with button mashing. Weird concept Let's assume the combo is x three times. The next combo is Y twice, pause, then y again. If chain both combos together. Then pause to fire off three spells. One for each party member. That seems disjointed

Why would anyone assume for one to _hope_ for a game to fail for that would benefit literally no one. Neither the gamers, nor the developers. Yet when gamers have been burned a couple of times too often, always after the hype, the promises, the roadmaps and whatnot, a critical if not cynical _I believe it when I see it_ position might be the logical consequence.

I just wish they'd return to a silent protagonist, since it gives the player a greater level of immersion. It continues to be a big issue for games that have character creation, my biggest gripe being Fable 3.

I agree with the similarity to Mass Effect. I'm not mad about it. The combat wheel is reminiscent of the Mass Effect games on console, along with 2 companions rather than 3. They did bring over devs from the Mass Effect team. I wouldn't be surprised, given that they used the Frostbite engine if they used coding from Andromeda.

Andromeda was a "bad" Mass Effect (that is not my opinion, but if you are part of the mass effect community you know what I'm talking about) game, but it was a very nice action RPG game. I wouldn't mind having that battle system.

@@Trollgernauttandromeda was my least favorite combat system. You couldn't control squadmates abilities, change their weapons or armor. They took all the strategy from the original trilogy and destroyed it. Also only allowing you to used a limited set of powers at a time or waiting for a long cooldown to change profiles was disappointing. There was no squadmate synergy

I really dislike "The Veilguard" as a title change, because first of all, it just sounds bad compared to Dreadwolf and it gives me already way too many Mass Effect mixed with Avengers vibes, which is not something you want to derive from given where those two IP's ended up. Avengers ended up needing A LOT of movies to establish every of their characters's story, before making the "lets get everyone together" movie and then how speed run it's way to mediocrity by going down the spiral of "we're making this for modern audiences" aka everything after Avengers Endgame. And let's not even get into why Mass Effect and how that one ended with Mass Effect 3's ending that ruined the whole franchise for a lot of people (myself included). Do they really need to give us any links to those two IP's given how they ended up? "Dreadwolf" sounded so much better and it made sense to link it to the ending of DAI's Tresspasser expansion. But, with this change now, and them admitting in an article that Solas is no longer the main villain and will be pushed to the side for another "world ending" God kinda ruins it for me a little bit. Bioware's past games in the past decade were Inquisition, Andromeda & Anthem. This is their last chance to redeem themselves, but I doubt the company and the IP can be saved due to most people that worked on the original Bioware titles have already left, including the two main people who were involved in creating the story for Dragon Age and directing it (Mike Laidlaw and Mike Darrah). So let's just say I am going in this with extreme apprehension, but, like with Bethesda's Starfield (and in turn TES6), Bioware's DA4 (I'm not calling it "The Veilguard") will be the last game I am buying from them and I HOPE it's at least on the same level as Inquisition (which isn't saying much).

The first sign of trouble for me would be when they start talking about combat right away... DA and ME are RPGs, and they start their fall when they stop become good RPGs, the combat should just be an after though, although good combat can add a lot to the game.

I like the intent behind the name change, making it about the companions. I don't really care for name, but I'm playing the game not the title of the game. What concerns me is that the game director is a trans girl, and we all know how woke Bioware is and has been for many years. If they can keep the politics out of the game, then I MIGHT give it a try. I truly hope the game is great, if only because I want another Mass Effect game.

Also, just so you know, Dragon age origins had diversity in it. The franchise has had it from the beginning. Diversity in and of itself isn't woke. It's what's done with said diversity that can make something woke. The Veilguard is all but guaranteed to have woke elements, but as long as it's either kept to a minimum or is almost entirely optional, like BG3, it's less than a problem. The way the industry handles diversity has made the majority of gamers forget that diversity in and of itself isn't woke. I'm someone who can't stand woke elements in games, but I don't allow myself to have tunnel vision.
