I’d love to see one of DBZ Infinite World. Amazing video as always! Budokai 2 best feature was the “what if” moments with the fusions/buu’s absorptions

Unlike most people I actually found the story mode in this game to be enjoyable. So many times I went back and played in Dragon World,I like the feature where you can pick other characters to play alongside Goku regardless of the saga. But it's a real shame this wasn't included in the HD Collection.

Budokai 2 was basically the Tekken 4 of the Budokai series. It's like the neglected middle child of the family. I was puzzled by the board game-like layout of the story, but I eventually embraced it and loved it.

I’ve always loved Budokai 2 I don’t care what anyone says, the intro song, artwork, soundtrack, and the story mode were all great to me

The GameCube version of this game upscaled in Dolphin Emulator looks amazing. I always preferred the B2 graphics to B3 graphics.

I think the only reason people say that is because it wasn't in the HD collection

Most people hated the story mode, i personally liked it. I was 12 when this game came out so all the technical issues you pointed out I didn't mind. The story mode gave me something different because at this point I played the legacy of goku games and dbz super warriors on gba. So I didn't need the story to follow the anime.

Each direction of the joystick rotation counts as a button press. So the full rotation of one joystick is 4 buttons pressed. Count both, double that. If you can position your hand to rotate the joysticks with your palm while also hitting the face buttons and L buttons, this will drastically increase your clash victories.

Actually, Budokai 2 is my favorite in the series, most of it because of nostalgia and for that story mode style, very different from others entry. Oh, and the art design, I love it, specially the life bar with the character face in it and how it changes with every transformation

Your Dragon Ball Videos are basically like going back home and find that your mum cooked your favorite dish :) . Budokai 2 is like a guilty pleasure of mine, i enjoy it when im feeling whackey or want to play something silly, like it has weird things like unique fusions and absorptions aswell as the ability to switch between character during battle when you have fusion dance equipped, if im not mistaken by pressing L1 you can switch between Trunks and Goten.

Obviously 3 and infinite World are better in terms of gameplay but I can't help but love B2 more. Also for burst mode you rotate the sticks not press buttons.

Watching this video brought back so many memories to the days of 2005 to about 2009 when all I played was Budokai and Budokai 2 on GameCube. I loved the Flashback montage starting at 17:28 because I remember always being annoyed by Frieza and Cell's constant appearance in the stages AFTER there original arcs ended. Even tho it gets a lot of flack for its board game theme, I honestly loved this game for its what-if cutscenes/character interactions like when Goku fought against Android #17 and Supreme Kai because it didn't happen in the original series. Great video. I personally really liked the whole boardgames aspect of 2 and how you can basically fan fiction stuff like raditz getting killed by goten. I had a wonderful time with this video.

Honestly this is from the top my head that each sequel to the series was so much better than the last. I remember in budokai 1 some combos just didnt't work like not all of the hits would connect so the combo wouldn;t complete. Even the 4 punch beam attack didnt work on some characters. To the third game being legit brilliant and I've always loved the capsule system so unique and in depth

Yeah fighting frieza and cell Over and over again is really annoying in the story mode. But one thing that’s funny is that in one of the dialogues between goku and cell, goku literally says “give up already cell” in a annoyed tone. This shows that even goku is annoyed with that

You and Frieza should make a dance collab

Let's not forget the infamous Skill Shop glitch (where if you hold a certain button combination, enter, and then exit the Skill Shop your inventory will just start filling up with skills that you never actually purchased) which basically gave you all the skills without even having to play the game.

I played through the story a few times before I learned about the digging for Dragon Balls thing. I had to look it up.

Just wanna say the reason why you weren’t winning the burst mode was because the main way to win is to spin the analog sticks, and if you can manage to press buttons at the same time, then you have the advantage.

I love the Budokai 2's story mode, and in general I think this game I great. The board game is a different and special way to live the saga, and not just view the cutscenes and fighting someone like Budokai 1. Ideas like the board game make the story fresh and peculiar. I actually would love if the last games have this kind of peculiarities in their story mode

Fun fact: in the update Japanese version of Budokai 2 name Z2V/ZV2 (I think that's what it's called), everything in the game has already been unlocked, they also add Cooler and frieza's non canon son kurieza from a joke manga toriyama made name Neko majin z as alt costumes for frieza. There's also an extra level in dragon world base around Neko majin z and it's about Tenshinhan and Yamcha permanently fusion to Tiencha/Yamahan and beat kurieza and others Edit:I forgot to mention this but there's also an extra map which is just the same as the tournament map but dawn and it has the Z2 on the building instead

I always liked the idea of unlocking characters/things by achieving certain tasks. It was how games back in the day had replayability and it was fun. Nowadays I don’t think locking characters behind story would work, but I bet locking alternate costumes behind tasks would be awesome because it’s optional and you’ll never feel trapped in NEEDING to do it. Especially if you only want a specific characters costume. I miss unlockables being in games

When Kid Buu was a real threat in those games

been watching through your retrospectives on Budokai and i gotta say i kinda love the story mode of B2, the way i see it it's a board game with a strange "what if" kinda feeling story line tho i do agree the constant re-fights do indeed go boring but hey atleast it's not just another retelling

This game had a kick butt opening. I loved it more than Budokai 3 at the time but now it's just in second place.

The reason why the opening animation looks more like DBS because it was animated using modern technology. Obviously it was release in early 2000s, so the animation tools have been improve compare to the 90s. It was supervised by Yamamuro whose artstyle pretty much the main presentative of DB artstyle in the 2000s onward until DBS Broly. Any major pieces of animation DB had in 2000s were all supervised by him or used his modern design. Also, you have to remember that there was a few year gap inactive of the franchise following GT, and DB is not really a dominate series until Battle of God.

There is actually a indication on who is winning Burst Mode. The one who is winning will rotate more to the foreground whereas the one who is losing will rotate into the background it's subtle and to my knowledge the game never really communicates this but there is a indication

I love budokai 2. The story mode is way better than 3, i love the board game story mode. The combat has some minor issues but i love the story mode so much that i dont mind. Budokai 1 is my favorite though. And budokai 3 has the best duel mode. I really dont understand why people hate on budokai 2's story... the board game is simple and if you take the time to read the instructions you can defeat every one in one turn. No full on cutscenes but at least its not just text like budokai 3. And theres way more voiced text than budokai 3. And usually its animated, though it is simple. Budokai 3 is just an empty world you fly through with no cutscenes. Budokai 1 has the best story mode though in my opinion. Also there are what if scenarios in this game, its just not made a big deal. Like tiencha and gokule.

I appreciate the good editing. You don't see that very often at your subscriber range. Do it yourself? I edit but mostly for others. Can't seem to think of what to do for my own content anymore. AS for Budokai 2. I remember really looking forward to this game, loving the chrome look on the cover. Opening intro was cool. But then Dragon World Mode was just a giant sadness. On it's faced it looked like it could be fun. I love turn based strategy games, and the board on it's face offered choice over how things might go down. But I quickly realized the choices were extremely shallow and had very little consequence. One thing about Frieza and Cell. I think as a way of making up for the fact they have no transformations they each have a plus 10 percent to their attack power I believe, I believe it also comes with a slight ki drain. But its like being transformed without needing to use a capsule slot, so in a way they get one extra free ability.

Unfortunately this game wasn't in the hd collection so many people didn't get to replay it (unless they use an emulator). I think it didn't have much to stand out. Budokai 1 was the story mode game and Budokai 3 was for gameplay. Edit: i commented all that at work without watching the video and you literally said everything i commented at the very beginning. Lol

IIRC, you needed to rotate the sticks in the melee clash... Maybe the buttons worked as well, but I distinctly remember always rotating the analog.

I love this game a lot but definitely through nostalgia mainly. I agree with a lot of what you saying about story mode even though I liked it. The board game thing I felt was actually a pretty neat and unique idea but them not staying true to the anime brings it’s rating down. Also felt like they could of fit in more characters but idk, maybe they didn’t want to bring in too many characters before the budokai games to follow

Your character will turn toward the camera if you’re winning while in burst mode. Plus you rotate the analogs not press the buttons if I remember correctly.

I preferred the graphics of Budokai 2 and the electricity around the transformation are the best in this one it still have some of the blue capsule moves I really liked

I think we're all forgetting something about this game, and that is that throughout the entire story mode, there is no margin of time passing. It makes it look like everything happened in the span of at least 4-5 months, and at most, 1 year. The main problem with this, is that none of the Z-fighters would realistically be able to get any training done, so they would still be at around the same level they would be in the saiyan saga, and yet we can still kick everyone's ass! To quote team four star, "either that last hit was so hard it sent me into a coma or... or? POWER LEVELS ARE BULLSH#T!"

I wish there was a budokai game with everything from 2, with the enhancements from 3. Into one game with the extra characters from infinite world. Except the bord game

22:05 god that was me as a kid. I only realized it when I was an adult when I replayed it on dolphin.

Suddenly remembered this game after discussing something about my PS3 and 2 with my mom. Remembered how I played the hell out of it as a kid and I'm very fond of it. Was thinking about buying it again off eBay. (Lost the game years ago). Just want to see if I'd still enjoy it as I still dabble in ps2 games every blue moon. Also I'm feeling much joy right now knowing that there are other women out there that has played it or still do.
