I would really enjoy this. although it would be difficult to figure out what format to do. this album needs to be listened through without breaks since the songs generally blend into eachother. it would be weird to do a separate video for each track. perhaps doing videos with 2 or 3 tracks each? one thing is for sure, you cant break the album up only listening to a bit every day, the impact would be lost. it would be list watching one scene from a movie every day.

But you've gotta do Metropolis Part I first! Metropolis is probably Dream Theater's most well-loved concert song. It's a freaking difficult song to play, but the members have (mostly) been playing it so often for almost 30 years that they can play it like the back of their hand, it's honestly impressive. And it leads into Scenes From a Memory!

This is literally their only hit song song .. first song off the first album with their current singer James Labrie .. I’ve been a fan since this came out in 1992. I’d recommend you stay on this one before moving on to other discs .. Take The Time, Metropolis Part 1, Under a Glass Moon and Learning to Live are all recommended .. thanks for another great DT review .. the lead guitarist lists Rush, Metallica, Iron Maiden and the Dixie Dregs, to name a few, as some of his influences so you will hear elements of them in their music. That is the way the song ends.

Absolutely. DTs Master of Puppets tribute is an awesome testament to the span of Metallicas influence across the hard rock/metal front. Id like to see Drew react to some of Metallica's s&m 2 album. In particular, a Metallica song he perhaps is already familiar with and discuss the epic new makeover the song now has from the orchestrated additions.

@JungleScene

this song definitely has metallica vibes. honestly, a lot of different DT songs give me vibes from a variety of different bands. And this is DEFFINITELY one of their most basic songs. their label wanted them to make something radio friendly so they did. early in their career they were really pushed by their label to be less proggy and more basic metal. this song was a huge hit for them but its one of their least musically interesting songs IMO.

The abrupt ending to the song is the last episode of The Sopranos before the last ep of The Sopranos. Also that song ending as it does confuses people more now than it did back when it was just cassettes and CDs because we *knew* it ended; now you have multiple people saying "is that it? did the song end early? the video only had part of the song" and whatnot. Which is sort of hilarious to me, as someone who owned a copy of this in 92 and has been a DT fan ever since (their latest album is fucking stellar as well)

The guys in Dream Theater were fans of Metallica growing up, so your observation about the similarities between guitar riffs are on point. Yes they often talk about being big fans of bands like Rush, Yes, Metallica and Iron Maiden. John Petrucci has also commented on basing some of his heavy sounds on the classic Metallica guitar sound. No doubt some of those things are even more prevalent during the early years of DT. That said, while I can see where you're coming from, those types of rhythmic single note patterns (especially open string) have been one of the biggest staples of metal music since the early 80s and it's just so embedded in the sound of the genre that I struggle to really relate it to any singular band anymore, even if Metallica were one of the biggest originators of it. These days it's usually more about what else you're going to do on top of that pattern to make it memorable.

Hi! I'm personally a big fan of DT. Just love it when great musicians make complex music that actually is very listenable, you know... when it still souds like a song and a great composition. Being Swedish myself, I'd like to recommend you reacting to a Swedish band of comparable musical proficiency to DT. They sound completely different though, playing fusiony, jazzy, progressive pop songs. You should begin by reacting to their first cover-songs like Adele's "Rolling in the Deep", Brittney Spears' "Circus", Justin Bieber's "Baby" or Alphaville's "Forever Young". The name of the band is Dirty Loops. Pick your favourite and enjoy! All the best! PS. React, and you have a subscriber! 😎

I wonder which tracks you didn't manage to find on Spotify by them, as far as I know they have everything on there! They have some unreleased songs that were cut from albums, they exist only as live versions, which are also on Spotify. Anyway, you're right about it being a more basic or held back song, this is probably their biggest commercial song so they kept it kinda safe I guess. You should try some stuff from the Awake album, it's still early DT, but that album is so good. Heavy riffs (first time Petrucci used a 7 string guitar on their songs), really good melodic parts and James LaBrie, the singer, kills it completely.
