Duluth Cycle sent me an awesome chain tensioner for the motorized bicycle kit! In this video we're having a look at it! A proper review is coming later.

I have never seen anyone put a washer on the outside of a skate wheel before.Thats what the lock nut is for. Yours truly.

I'm really enjoying these motorized bicycle videos, especially since you really know your stuff with 2-strokes. That is a nice tensioner! There's another model that is very similar that mounts between the cover and crankcase itself, but those require a bearing between the clutch cam and bucking bar, often cause the chain to rub against the tensioner mount plate, and also come with a pretty weak spring (though that is easily replaced). There are other tensioner/idler models that include a more robust four-bolt "stock" style idler, another that is a chainstay-mounted spring tensioner, another that is a channeled arc that mounts to both the chainstay and the seatstay with an adjustable idler wheel, and probably others I have not seen. My preferred method is no tensioner at all - it's tricky but can be accomplished with a (near-)perfectly centered wheel sprocket and shims for the rear mount of the engine to gain proper tension. Horizontal dropouts for the rear wheel and a halflink for the pedal chain (if needed) help a LOT as well. Takes patience and planning but is very much worth it!

Awe man! They stole my idea! Ha ha ha. I'm in the process of making one exactly like that. Too funny. The urethane wheel should quiet things down quite a bit. I would suggest putting the wheel on a lathe and turning a slight channel for the chain to ride in though. Just to make sure things stay aligned and make it more stable. Also you may want a stiffer spring. Looks like that one is a bit light for the job. Good luck my friend. Looks awesome!

I had a spring loaded tensioner on mine. I found as decelerating the chain would bounce and doing around alot sometimes causing chain derailment or snapping from the sudden tension from bouncing.

Need the anti-lockup block. When the wheel drives the engine when coasting or popping the clutch for start-up the bottom becomes the tight part of the chain. The top will get sloppy loose and jam in the engine case. Locking up the wheel. Guaranteed.

If it's a skateboard wheel, wouldn't it just roll off? I mean there would have to be groves in there somewhere.

2STROKE STUFFING I'll have to make a how to because it's the second self tensioner I've made. Some Frames the rear wheel doesn't have adjustment so you need a tensioner. When I can delete it I just use the bike rear wheel slots to adjust.

Why don't You cut chain in right lenght. You can change tension by moving rear wheel front und back. No tensioner needed.

If you want to not break your neck using that tensioner you WILL need one of these. www.ebay.com/i/182007083217?chn=ps . When you coast or start the slack side of the chain gets tight, and move the tensioner out of the way, while the top gets VERY loose. Then the engine will get two links try to hop onto the top of the engine side sprocket, locking up the wheel. I think they are a horrible idea, but if you want to run one just run an anti-lockup block.

These people are fucking insane. $55? For what? Does it come with a new chain and rear sprocket? Is it titanium or aircraft grade aluminum? Oh wait, does this one also have a "patent pending" like they created the idea of a spring chain tensioner? Lol. It's two pieces of metal cut to shape with a $1 spring and $1 wheel. My local metal shop quoted me $18 for effectively the same thing minus the wonky colors, logo and replacing the wheel with an actual sprocket that won't wear out in 300 miles. Mind you that's for a single one. So add in the fact they buy everything in bulk and you can quickly conclude that they're just greedy fucks taking advantage of people that think it's a lot more difficult than it is to make.
