Think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen...a must-see for this year. Villeneuve has managed to fluently condense a giant story and various plots into part 2, and not one casting seems out of place. The sound is (as expected) incredible, thanks to Hans Zimmer for going absolutely apeshit.

The best news I've had in a long long time was when I heard Denis Villeneuve was set to direct a "Rendezvous with Rama" movie, it's my favorite book of all time and his visual style is basically the perfect fit for it. How lucky I am to have been born in 1965. Saw Star Wars 30 times when I was 12. Close Encounters the same year. Wept at the end of E.T. to start the 80s, then saw every film of note in that astounding decade, and there were so many that are now classic. Then a brilliant series with LOTR, Then the whole Marvel thing. Now the genius of a new generation of film makers where the universe is their cinematic playground, and it feels like things are taking off again. I'm so excited for this movie. Cannot wait for Villeneuve's Rendezvous With Rama and beyond. I say we start a petition for Villeneuve to step in and rescue Star Wars. Seriously.

I think Star Wars just needs to be left alone. There's no need to keep rehashing the same property forever. There are plenty of variations of scifi fantasy to be had without beating the dead horse further. I say that having grown up as the biggest SW geek imaginable. That's awesome you've been able to see the evolution of scifi and fantasy in cinema though. You may have lived the most desirable span of years in all of history, at least in the West.

These books are so underrated, Frank Herbert is a genius and a great storyteller. He leaves so much to our imagination while still building this incredible world of Arrakis. He even wrote the sequel, Dune Messiah because people were misinterpreting Dune. They get so weird but at the same time that’s what makes his books so unique and a filmmaker’s dream to produce. For all those people who haven't read the books; how come that nobody who praises this movie asked why were they fighting with knives 20 000 years in the future while at the same time mastering interstellar traveling (and who and how made that travelling possible, who are the GUILD NAVIGATORS, if mentioned at all)? Why weren't there any computers in that universe, any signs of technological progress apart from dragonfly choppers? Who the hell were those guys with black spots on their chins (Mentats), why do they exist? Wtf was wrong with that doctor in part I, how did he do all that, who was he? Who are all those side characters appearing for no reason, hiding behind big industry names, where is that universe, those 60 billion people who are going to be slaughtered in some sacred war, which war? Cliffhanger after a cliffhanger, ...NOTHING, no questions, everybody gets the gist? Has anyone asked any question after watching the movie about ANYTHING apart from ''wow, what a cinematic experience with magnificent special effects, IMAX rules blah, blah, blah'', where is the story, who are all these characters, where does the story end? Dennis made a glorious, pretty-looking, soulless empty shell of a movie which left viewers who haven't read the books baffled and in limbo, or frustrated for butchering the story. Those millions of dollars that they spent for marketing (great marketing campaign), and paid reviews will mean nothing in a couple of months, because nobody will remember this (just like Avatar 2 e.g) - it is simply a case of BAD WRITING with miserable editing and masterful effects and solid cinematography.

The background whispers you hear are Villeneuve's way of realising a major aspect of the books... interior dialogue. That's one of the interesting ways that Herbert tells his story... we "hear" the interior voice of many characters, allowing us to understand what they are actually thinking, even as they are saying out loud different things to other characters. A difficult trick to pull off without using overt voice-overs, but used subtly really gets to the heart of Herbert's writing. Mr.Villenuve really understands both these books, and how to make compelling movies.

What really amazes me is that Villaneuve gets to make passion projects with large budgets, even though they don't always make money. His sequel to "Bladerunner" was stunning, and lost a ton of money. Meanwhile, he also made "Sicario" for $30 million, and it grossed almost triple that worldwide. How he gets to keep making these great movies, despite the relatively poor box office, tells me that there are still people in Hollywood who believe in quality. It gives me hope.

First of all I'm really looking forward to watching Dune part 2. Ordered tickets for me and my girlfriend weeks ago and I couldn't be happier that you liked it. Makes me look forward to it even more. I am however very surprised you think the films this year - so far - have anything less than outstanding. I have never gone to the movies as often as I have in the last few weeks. I thought 'The Holdovers' was excellent and it's been a long time since I enjoyed a movie as much as I enjoyed 'Poor Things'. On top of that we have 'The Zone of Interest' which in my opinion is a superb film. I haven't seen 'the Boy Heron' yet but I will and am interested in 'Dream Scenario' as well. I haven't watched 'Anatomy of a Fall' either but I really want to. There are so many good movies at the moment that I feel spoiled. I usually agree with you on many film related topics but in this instance I really disagree. I am having the (movie) time of my life! :D
