DYA717 Hawaii Ray’s Café May 7, 2022
Today we decided on take-out for lunch from Ray’s Café on North King St. in Kalihi. On the way we passed by Keeaumoku St. where some of our favorite restaurants had to close down because the area was being razzed to make room for a big new building. Then on to Ray’s Café. Owner/chef said he ordered 100# of fresh Akule (from Kauai I was told later). He said he only had 4 days of Fried Akule lunches. The cafe itself is quite small, only 6 tables for dine-in. Parking is a problem but you foodies probably can find your way around. Our driver double-parked on the street while a couple of us went in to chat with the owner Felix while our take-out Fried Akule was still being prepared. Check out the video - 2 large fried Aukle take-out for $10!!!!!! Ken also told me about the $35 Cowboy Ribeye Steak which was on special for today. Ken said it was an awesome dish. Felix came out to explain it is the same 2# steak served in Waikiki for $100+. It is a CASH ONLY place but not to worry! They have an ATM machine inside the café. Today out group had 4 Fried Akule and 1 Hamburger Steak lunches. Hope y’all will have the chance to dine-in or do a take-out from Ray’s Café.
