At 48:00, that's what we did. Just a week ago, 25th Feb, we got married at the AG and had a wonderful photoshoot and dinner with friends. My family is forward thinking but my husband's have and still give me a hard time. I am a Kikuyu and my husband is luhya. Of course there were stupid remarks about Kikuyu women, our ruracio I was told to remove my dress...that they didn't like it. Told them they might as well leave. That was my mom's house. Their son wasn't doing me a favour by marrying me and it wasn't too late to part. Of course my husband has always been on my side. Then we wanted a small wedding coz of our budget but his mom would say that the village knows her and everyone has to come. In short a 1.5+ million wedding. We told them we can't spend part of our savings, 1.5+ for a one day event unless they were willing to give us the money. And of course they weren't gonna do that. So we decided, because they are prolonging and making this process more difficult, we opted to go to the AG. My mom was for it. His parents gave us a hard time and guilt tripped us. The cousins were also not happy. But guess who is happy, these newly weds. They will adjust to the new reality when they decide to. They said they've blessed us because their son didn't back out but regardless, I have put up very strong boundaries. Lesson learnt, sometimes your family or People closest to you are intruders.

This is what I did. There were so many issue, we woke up on a Tuesday, went to the AG and moved on with our lives. Later we had a small lunch with family & friends. It is crucial that you are both on the same side because it makes things easier.

So relatable I just had to subscribe. I am a Luo from Migori, raised in Nairobi, and married in Kisumu. Let me tell you! Very difficult. The guys up north have really fixated mindsets when it comes to beliefs that is totally different from how I was brought up. It is a struggle I tell you.

A very important thing to note with marriage ceremonies, is to understand what other traditions the family observes, to avoid consternation when you have kids (shaving, naming), polygamy, God forbid one of you dies, the surviving spouse should know what to expect/ prepare for etc. because Luo funerals are very expressive while centrooo funerals are clinical affairs.

😂 hapo kwa funerals kwanza, was shocked to hear some luo families even hire mourners... Kikuyus just shed passing tears and move on.. Alafu, Weh, the first luo burial I went for went on till evening, around 5/6pm I was wondering kwani what's the deal here... Kumbe that's how it is... Kikuyus are usually done by 12 then people eat and go back to work 😏 but all in all, we celebrate the diversities. May God bless you ladies and your families 🙌

I think it is true us Kikuyus try not to cry during funerals and one has to be strong. When my Dad died I was 16 I cried the night before when I was in bed but during the funeral I did not cry because for SOME WEIRD REASONS I DID NOT WANT MY MOTHER TO SEE ME CRYING LOL,my reasoning was that it was a bigger loss to her than it was to me so I needed to be strong for her ...what the hell lol and mind you nobody had told me this ! strange I know!

Heh. I died. Chicken for the husband to be was a thing even during my time. There's chicken for all guests BUT there's chicken dedicated to the new husband. Also watching this makes me more appreciative of how open-minded our folks were. Like we did everything in Nairobi Ayie, Nyombo. Mr. still took cows to shags, I was away for work and everything continued. The constant thing for ALL functions or any form of hosting is DEATH BY FOOD. We don't make kidogo food.
