@@DRKJFOSTER When and how can we know we are truly ready to date without risking our sobriety? It's all on me, my ex was great but the pressures of a relationship got to me about 5 months in and with 2 years sobriety under my belt. I began to drink in secret, she found out a couple times, but I did it so much more. Been about a month since the breakup and at 31 I don't think I can date again for a long time. Very disappointing experience.

What I've found over the years: The 2 major triggers for relapse are impatience and complacency. Impatience is a risk during early recovery when life is still full of chaos: Relationships damaged, health issues, employment issues, etc. "My counselor told me my life would get better if I stopped drinking! It's been 3 days since I stopped drinking and my life hasn't gotten better". Yup I've seen that a lot. Complacency is the biggest risk for people who have sobriety and have been in recovery for a while. Lives are put back together, health problems are resolved, work is going great. This is when an alcoholic is at greatest risk. The motivation for sobriety is to get your life back and remove the chaos. That's the goal. The tool to get there is abstinence from alcohol (or drugs). When you achieve your goal you stop using the tool that got you there.

Thanks Dr. I’ve learned more about recovery from you than the 20 years I’ve been around the rooms... I’ve got just under (90) days I tested positive for COVID Thursday and this has been extremely helpful

Hi Steve - Sorry to hear that you have Covid. Hopefully you have mild symptoms. I know many people who have gotten it over the past few weeks and most have mild, short term or no symptoms. And, congrats on your 90 days!! You are well on your way back on the road to full recovery. Don't let Covid, and the isolation of Covid, get you down. Jump on Zoom meetings, keep watching videos, keep feeding your mind with recovery. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you are finding my content helpful and keep going...

Very true everything you said is what I learned in recovery last year. Problem for me was being home and just not being able to deal with cold turkey from many years of prescribed Xanax and Adderall! That’s my relapse excuse and I know that’s a excuse! I didn’t drink beer for two months but finally started again. I’m taking Neltrexome and seeing addiction nurse for meds and counseling some. That’s my story.

THOUGHTS ARE POWERFULL, CAN BE ON ANY BELIEF, DRINKING AND NOT DRINKING IS A CLASSIC FOR A THOUGHT OF POWER YOU THINK IS A WAKEN TRUTH. THE CAUSE ISN'T BY THE BODY BUT THE BRAIN IT IS.BY A BELIEF THAT HELP A LITTLE BUT NOT FREEDOM GOING OUTSIDE FAKE DR THATS NOT NEW UNDER THE SUN, LIKE PREACHERS IS BLACK LIGHT ABOUT SPIRITUAL POWER, NOT WHAT YOU EAT OUR DRINK CAUCSES IT.

Relationships that are healthy? I’m a sponsor. I don’t give relationship advice. I identifying people places and things are paramount. I make less suggestions and illuminate the questions. I’ve heard many give relationship advice and it typically doesn’t work. I’m an alcoholic. If you tell me what to do I’m defiantly doing the opposite. Even sober.

@@DRKJFOSTER it’s gods work. I have to stop playing god. My primary purpose is stay sober and help others achieve sobriety. That’s a tall enough order without outside issues. Also the big book says “we do not wish to be the arbiters”. Every time I hear this crap I ask what page it says that on. No matter how far down the scale we have gone we will see how our experience can benefit others. Not our advice.
