My two favorite dads in all of fiction are William Adama and Benjamin Sisko. I didn’t have a relationship with my dad and they fill the ideal in my mind of dads that have many facets including flaws, but fully love and care for their children (even when they fight) and aren’t afraid to be openly affectionate and admit when they’re wrong

interesting factoid for this episode considering you referenced Blade Runner: this is the first time they call cylons "skinjobs" in BSG (an homage/callback to Blade Runner) and that 4 barrel pistol the guy has that he gives to Sharon is the same 4 barrel pistol model from the beginning of Blade Runner when Leon shoots Holden! And of course EJO is in Blade Runner as Gaff :) :)

In case you haven't cracked it by now: The map was the constellations of the astrological signs seen from earth. They have to triangulate the stars that are part of these constellations in a way that they line up exactly as seen from earth. This way they will find where earth is. Because whereever they are now those constellations will look completely different. Maybe they are even at one of the stars in them.
@MikeJF85
@MikeJF85 Ай бұрын
From far away they wouldn't have a hope of being able to do it, but the nebula they spotted is the Lagoon Nebula, about 4000 light years away from Earth in real life. And they have the rough angle and size of the nebula from Earth, so they can figure out vaguely enough where it is to start mapping stars and trying to find the constellations.

The writers messed up a little bit with the "and you ask why" bit here, because it's not referencing when he said that to the dead body, but when he asked why humans deserve to live during his speech at the end if the mini series. It's a very easy thing for the audience to mix up, and I have seen a bunch of reactors making the mistake.
@Dendood
@Dendood Ай бұрын
Good point to correct the gals about Sharon's reference to Adama's question. But the writers did not mess up. Boomer was there when Adama first posed the question during his address to the fleet in the mini series. Her death came later so the knowledge of that question would be available to her and potentially the rest of the Cylons when she uploaded back to the Cylon cloud after Callie shot her. It haunted Boomer's memory and apparently Sharon's as well.
@a_Taveren
@a_Taveren Ай бұрын
@@Dendood They flashed the scene of him asking the dead body of Boomer while he was assaulting Sharon, and immediately afterwards had her say "and you ask why". It's a mess up and very misleading. Clearly I know Sharon "remembered" the speech since I stated that it's what she was referring to... I'm not really sure what your comment is trying to say.
@MongooseTales
@MongooseTales Ай бұрын
I agree, a misstep by the writers. The scene certainly plays like Sharon has knowledge of something Adama had said to Boomer's body after Boomer was shot and her consciousness left that body. However there's been nothing in the series so far to suggest that Cylons have that capability. In fact everything revealed thus far about Cylon resurrection suggests the opposite: an upload relocates the entire consciousness with nothing left behind.
@jabberwock95
@jabberwock95 Ай бұрын
I don't think it was a mistake, I think it was intentionally ambiguous. There's lots of reasons she might say "and you ask why?". Referencing his speech, or just in the general sense of 'and you ask why the Cyclons decided to come back and get revenge?'. They flashed onto her body because hearing her say that instantly took him back to that moment and FREAKED HIM THE HELL OUT.

@@Dendood I don't believe Caprica-Valerii has access to all of Boomer's memories up to her death. She only has the memories up to the point when she was created. She would have been doubled and awakened during the 6 days Helo was on Caprica, and that is the point where her connection with Boomer's memories stops. So she would have memories up to the speech and maybe some of the 33-minute attacks, but nothing else. I doubt Caprica-Valarii has had access to the cloud to "remember" the water bombing, hatch trial, self-deleting attempt, shooting Adama, etc.

I get the distrust for Roslin, but my take is that like Adama, she truly puts the good of the colonies first. She’s not selfish like Baltar or power hungry like Zarek. But Adama is a deeply honorable and forthright person. Roslin is not. She’s a politician. That means she’s willing to lie, cheat and steal if she thinks it’s best for humanity. Look at how the two of them react to her broken promise. To Adama, it almost broke their relationship and he had to rise above it and forgive her. To Roslin, she won’t even apologize because she believes it was for the best for humanity. Which is definitely can be a bit sketchy, but I believe her heart is in the right place.

Oh Puh...lease... Zarek also does what he does because he believes it's for the good of humanity. Dude literally sacrificed most of his life fighting for other people's rights. It's his methods that are questionable. Baltar is about a universal fairness, which is far more moral. Obviously can't go into specifics because of spoilers. So real world. Almost every political ideology comes down to 'we believe our way is best for everyone' whether conservative, liberal, communist or fascist. Even libertarians believe that if everyone behaved selfishly it would create a great society. It's not an excuse for her actions. If it is then whatever team you think you're on you will always justify your teams actions because you believe they are for the greater good. This is the central thesis the show warns against.

I don't think that Sheron's "And you ask why?" wast reaction to Adama asking dead Boomer, because Sharon didn't knew about her being dead. Which means she didn't get latest update of her memories, she already was running from other Cylons with Helo and Starbuck. I belive it was pointed to miniserie when Adama had that improvised speech before attack, she have memories from that. But it was intentionally cutted to look like she knew that question he asked above dead Bommer's body. Also that cave scene and they apearing on Earth was I belive like some holographic projection. Which mean Earth was known to original Kobolian tribes and they were there before all the tribes leaved it - 12 to new planets an one to Earth. Which also means this projection was hundrets, maybe thousands years old.

That moment after talking to Dee while he was standing in the corridor making a decision when Paula was talking about how he’s a good man. I think that was the moment when he forgave Roslin. Sharon absolutely does not remember shooting Adama. She only has Boomer's memories up to a certain point so that she could convince Helo that she was the same Boomer when they met on Caprica. Sharon didn't keep getting memory updates up to the point where Boomer died. They both had identical baseline biographical memories to start, but they are separate individuals with different missions, and Sharon is way "off mission" now. The "why" moment is not proof otherwise. It could just as easily refer to Adama's speech from the miniseries prior to the attack or a general assumption about humanity wondering why the Cylons hate them.

Either the writers made a mistake, as one commenter made on this thread... or Caprica Sharon did get an update. At least partial. The how isn't explained within the show so we are left to speculate fan fiction style as to what happened. This scene on Kobol where she repeats Adama's words back to him, she would have needed some form of update to know what Boomer heard. (When Boomer uploaded to the Cylon Cloud after Callie shot her?) But that update would have to have been only partial considering she did not know the old man was shot. And Boomer definitely knew the old man was shot. Even if her conflicted mind couldn't accept it was she who did the shooting. The information Caprica Sharon got was probably on a 'need to know basis'. The models would not want her to know that bit of drama as it might compromise her mission to honey pot Helo.

The changed names Caprica-Capricorn, Picon-Pisces is not so much a result of translation, but an example of how language changes over time. "Our" constellation names were the original names that evolved over time to what became the names of the Twelve Colonies. For example: Charleston, South Carolina was originally Charles Town. Over the years pronunciation of the city name changed and spelling changed to reflect that. At least, this appears to be the reasoning in the mythos of the show.

@MongooseTales
@MongooseTales Ай бұрын
Okay, regarding the Head Six mystery, let's think it through a little more, with no spoilers but based specifically on what we know at this point. Is Head Six being broadcast to Gaius by a chip in his brain? Nope, that possibility was ruled out in this episode. Is she just a figment of his imagination? Well, she knew about Sharon being pregnant before Gaius did, and told him, so that theory has been seriously undermined. Even Gaius himself says "Sharon being pregnant does suggest that you are rather more than a simple manifestation of my subconscious." Then we have the explanation Head Six herself provides in this episode. "I'm an angel of God sent here to protect you... to guide you, to love you." That actually opens the door to THREE possibilities. The first is that she is exactly what she says she is, an angel of God. The second is that she is some kind of non-human entity other than an angel of God, but passionately believes she is an angel of God. And the third is that she is some kind of non-human entity other than an angel of God, and knows it, and is therefore lying to Gaius about being an angel of God. One can only hope that as the series continues to unspool and more clues drop, it will become possible to further narrow down these possibilities. I'm not going to reveal whether it will or won't. But an important takeaway from this episode is that viewers should at least start thinking more broadly about what Head Six might be and the implications for the overall series plotline.

13:37 I dont think Sharon "remembers" shooting Adama because at that point Sharon was already on her Helo mission. When she tells Helo "I remember all of it" she means up to the point where Boomer left Helo on Caprica because thats the information she needed for her mission. She would have accessed Boomer's past, but since then theres been no way for her to have accessed Boomer's present and certainly not her future. As she told Roslin last episode, she's "not plugged in" Like... If she doesnt "remember" Boomer dying, why is it assumed that she would "remember" the events leading up to her dying?

I'm not going to let out spoilers here, but in a few weeks time, you're going to change your minds forever about a particular character. There's also another character you'll start warming up to.

Regarding the difficult-to-watch scene in upcoming Season 2 Episode 10: Yes you may want to give yourself a break after seeing it. But I also suspect that when the episode ends you will want very much to move on immediately to Episode 11 and possibly Episode 12 after that. So whatever your intentions may be, I suggest you not put yourself in a situation where you won't even have the option of watching them back-to-back.

One thing you will start to notice by now in Battlestar Galactica is the mother/father pairs. There is the obvious one being Sharon and Helo who are the parents of a child who is literally the future of two species. The next one is Adama and Roslin and they are the symbolic parents of the human fleet for one controls the military and the other controls the government. Finally there is Six and Gaius, they are the spiritual parents because their actions, by the waxing and waning of their love, are clearly ushering in a new future for both humans and Cylons- had Gaius not given the defence codes to Six and had Six not given them to the Cylons, then the Cylons surprise attack would have failed meaning Sharon and Helo would not have encountered each other, and their child would not have happened. Thus the child is the consequences of their, Gaius' and Six's, actions and they are its symbolic parents. In later seasons you may discover one final mother/father pair- though that one has MAJOR spoilers so I shall keep my frakking mouth shut.

I think the show does a great disservice to the viewers in not clearly defining upfront how certain cylons have the memories of other cylons given the show is trying really hard to establish that each cylon is an individual with his or her own memories and identity. There are partial hints given throughout the show, and an episode in a later season does explain some of it via a similar situation. But, I've watched the show many times through, and I still have questions re: Sharon having Boomer's memories, particularly memories that seem recent.
@paulpenna5615
@paulpenna5615 Ай бұрын
She has Sharon's memories up to just before the Cylon attack. Presumably Sharon took shore leave, and during that she was debriefed by a Cylon operative in preparation for the attack, and had her memories downloaded during that encounter.

"This is not episodic." Well................................................ By the Gods I wish that were true. It's mostly true. But thanks to behind the scenes arm twisting by the suits at the Sci-Fi Channel it's not. There are 6 (?) episodic stories in the rest of BSG because the Network demanded them. One of them is excellent. One is passable. But the other four are cringe worthy. I won't say where they pop up but you will know it - and feel it - when you get to them. The network was of the mind there needed to be 'jumping on' points for new viewers. In their minds viewers could watch a one and done story, see it resolved at the end of the episode and appreciate it without the need to catch up on a boat load of lore and back story. Unfortunately the conflict set up in a one and done paled in comparison to the beautifully woven conflicts that have been set up so far. It would be great if you could just skip them. But even in the clunkers there are seminal moments important to the over all story that can't be skipped. With luck you won't hate them. On the other hand, this is one of THE brilliant episodes in all of BSG. And the episode that made me fall completely in love with the show. The tomb scene slapped me in the face. Punched me in the gut. Left me laying on the floor smiling in sheer bliss for all the mystery and wonder that was set up in this episode. One of the to 10 episodes of BSG! With many more to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Did I mention how much I love watching you two watch this show??

@@Gunnar001 How do you know that?
@Dendood
@Dendood Ай бұрын
@davidb1565 Well if they literally traveled to Earth that would mean instantaneous, two way faster than faster than light travel without aid of a ship. Or the Gods or God miracled them there and back. Or it could be a hologram. Occam's razor would suggest the latter. Although admittedly the former would be wayyy more fun.
@Gunnar001
@Gunnar001 Ай бұрын
@@davidb1565 Because I highly doubt they were magically teleported hundreds of lightyears away to the surface of another planet in an instant. This isn't Stargate SG-1. The only logical explanation is they were in an ancient planetarium and activated some kind of advanced hologram or virtual representation of Earth.
@davidb1565
@davidb1565 Ай бұрын
@Dendood That's supposition and Occam's Razor is a thought exercise. Not proof or evidence. You don't even know what was simpler for the "gods" to achieve. So Occam's razor may not even be applicable. Linking two places with a wormhole could be a natural ability for them and they may have no knowledge of advanced holograms that you can tough and smell.
