i just did this on my 2015 f150 sub and it made a huge different. damn i cant believe i completely didn't think about this . i've been into car audio forever. that lil piece of foam in there was laughable. i had the same thing. anyway thanks again. bas is much tighter and boomier and louder.

Kevin Song stage 3 has a kicker sub that’s plug and play. And 4 speakers too.

@@zachchacon5385 its the kicker vss subgate for 2009 to 2014 f150. Its a custom enclosure with 10 inch kicker sub and 200 watt amp in one. It bolts in place of the factory 8 in sony sub. Around $700.

Appreciate you sharing this tip. I’ll certainly keep it in the back pocket….Im actually trying to determine if my 09 King Ranch is compatible for installing the Sony factory sub/amp. Is it simply plug in play? The head unit is 6 disc, xm satellite, sync and Bluetooth…it has does not have the navigation screen but I believe it’s compatible for that option. Found a few people in my area that are selling theirs. Thanks for the great content and helpful tips.

@@thatchillguyjacob Unfortunately, I have not. Some timing chain issues took my attention away from the sound system upgrade. I did come across a few king ranches that had the same head unit as mine and they were outfitted with oem Sony sound and subwoofer…a buddy of mine has Forscan and he mentioned it might be doable. Let me know what you find out. Thanks

Ok well here is an update. I just added polyfoam in my speaker box. Here is the outcome. It does sound waaaay better, no joke it actually sounds great. I was shocked!! I will say that my sub may not be factory becuase someone broke the screw in the back of the sub where the cover mounts so somebody obviously took it out for a reason. Either way it sounds noticeably better atleast on mine it does.

My sub makes louse crackles, the exposed bolt on top is very very magnetically charged and magnetises any metal tool it touches. Can i just disconnect the sub and still be able to use radio?

Of course. It's going to sound weird. But won't damage anything.

@@TECHIELIFE i thought so. The amp or whatever it is makes loud hisses and pops even with the music is on 0, i altered with the fade and balance and it doesnt change. It only stops after i turn on and off the radio

might be a dumb question but i have no control over my equalizer and my rear audio is pretty weak in my '14 f150. one guy said thats from the main amp going out, have you or anyone else have that same thing happen? or does the audio system just suck like that?

Wouldn't that dampen the sound? When you buy a sub box they dont stuff insulation in it.

Not dampen but it fools the sub to think its in a bigger box and also gives a smoother bump.

I have a 2013 king ranch. So I have the Sony sound system. My question is if I change out the doors speakers will the subwoofer still work

You can upgrade your door speakers independent of the Sony sub.

I replaced mine with 4 kickers using an adapter wire proved by crutchfield. 30 minute job. Major sound upgrade even with factory amp and stereo.

I did this in my 2012 F150 - It for sure adds extra bass and I would say is worth the time of doing it.

FYI for anyone watching, the video is worth watching.. This video shows a standard car audio tweak so that a sub reacts as if it's in a larger box. The oversimplified explanation of box size vs sound output is that smaller boxes = punchier bass (like the sound from a kick drum) and larger = boomier deeper bass (like when holding the low note on a huge pipe organ). Too large will make the sound sloppy. Too small and there won't be enough low bass.

Personally I don't think it went crazy well perhaps? lol... I think that's too much for that enclosure. It risks getting sucked into the basket as the air pressure increases and decreases. I've been researching recently about this which is why I came across your video because I'm putting my stock factory subwoofer back inside of this 2006 f150 that I have and hooking it up to a pioneer 1770 NEX because it's not hooked up right now. I thought it was a wiring problem but they put radio that wasn't this truck's radio back into it and it didn't have an outlet for the subwoofer which is why I wasn't working. So we'll see how it goes and I'm going to add some polyfill in it just not this much. Doing it according to this link which was I think more helpful kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sN-aidZ3p92aoqc.html By the way when it says tricking the subwoofer into thinking it's in a bigger box which is hence That's just a thought. I think it's because it increases the pressure inside of there. Think of pressure being a force over area and essentially you have this same force that was being produced without the polyfill except on the polyfill creating a force that develops energy that probably creates more shaking and punchier and boom your booming

Long ago I researched the sub, calculated the air space and then used a piece of pvc to port the sub box.

@@WhatsthePOINT_EDC Immediately after the porting, I remember it sounding better on lower notes, which it still does. However the bass is non existent with some songs. It definitely did not make a huge difference.
