We live on 8 acres in rural Iowa and have what feels like the perfect place to become less dependent on buying things in stores and the electric company. Dan and I are in our mid-50s and we are gearing up to retire early and make a self-sufficient living right here. Let these sit about 2-3 weeks for that lovely heat to penetrate. The longer they sit the spicier they get. Yum!

We love asparagus and I wanted to try pickling it this year. We live in the country and have wild asparagus growing along the fence row -don't hate me :)

Haha! We have it growing along our fence and in our ditches here in Iowa as well - Tyler goes asparagus hunting and gets big tubs full of it! I love that about the country. He's going to be our asparagus supplier this year. It's not up around here yet, so had to do store bought for the video. I can't wait - fresh asparagus is YUM. :)

I like spicy, but not THAT spicy! I would probably put jalapenos in there instead of habaneros. My asparagus will be in its 2nd year this year, so I don't expect much of a yield, but I'd like to try this with my homegrown peppers if I can. Thanks for the recipe!

Jalapenos would be a good substitute! And pickled peppers would be fantastic. I also just used this recipe this last week to make two half gallon jars of pickled eggs. Let me know how the peppers turn out!
