TTate yes twigs - we have our "re-education" helpers collect them and then drive back in our Lada to the re-purposed nuclear warhead cone BBQ( it didn't work so they gave it to us) which we fuel with propaganda leaflets that have been dropped on us...sometimes when we are feeling generous ( drunk on Glorious Leader Soju ) we let others eat the ashes...life is good...

Korean beers, Cass Hite, etc. They are too much underrated. I have been a beer fan and tried so many beers, living in a few countries. We can't simply say Korean beers are shitty. There are culture things, There isn't really bar-bar culture in Korea, Korean people drink a lot but almost always with 안주 or meats, and 안주 is actually food which can be a meal. With a meal definitely light and refreshing beers like Korean beers are good choice. Do you want drink English ales or Belgian beers which are very heavy with a meal? English or Belgian or other countries have bar-bar culture, when they drink they drink just beers or maybe with some chips/crisps. If you are at the bar and drink Korean beers, it would be too watery, sure. Korean beers are actually fit in the Korean culture very well and it has been really popular and will stay popular.

Regular BBQ restaurants in Korea are not about fanciness and style like in for example in LA, and I actually like that fact. Clickbait title much? The only reason it's better in the US is because of the quality of the beef? Duh. There are plenty of high-quality beef restaurants in Korea and plenty of shitty KBBQ places in the US. It's so obvious you've only been to cheap all-you-can-eat barbecue places in Seoul (Funny thing is that those places often serve US beef or Australian beef instead of Korean beef because Korean beef is considered of higher quality).

I heard from Koreans that the beef in Korea is quite expensive. So maybe you can get the same quality beef in Korea but with a much higher price I imagine. Beef in the US is cheap, if you don't know. In Los Angeles, they have all you can eat kbbq for as low as 10 dollars per person
@Emelius7
@Emelius7 3 жыл бұрын
@@leonardpatrol3805 beef is cheap in Korea, too. I pay 1.4 dollars per 100 grams for chuck. Korea does not use US beef. They import from Australia. Everyone on here is ignorant and assumes the only beef in Korea is Hanwoo.

My recommendation is to definitely have a few drinks before digging into the BBQ, even if you're not really a drinker. If you start drinking after you start eating, you're going to get full faster and you can't digest the deliciousness as efficiently. This is essential at the "all-you-can-eat" places.

Ok, as a Korean American (born in the US, living in Korea right now for business/work) I call total bullshit. If they put on the title why BEEF/Korean style marinated beef is better than Korean barbeque (yes the quality is great, and less expensive) But Korean Barbeque including all meats (chicken, pork, beef, even seafood) gtfo Korea is way better. Also for a better price. You can go to almost any restaurant and be served such amazing korean bbq. Also probably healthier cause Korea's FDA is very strict. Eater, you guys need to actually come to Korea first, before making false statements. I'm American and lived my whole life in the States yet this is disrespectful to Koreans here that have amazing standards in food.

HELL NO! As someone currently living in Korea I can safely say that Korean beef is inferior to other beef. It is 5 times the cost and 2 times tougher than imports. Koreans DO NOT age beef like the west making the flavour and texture lacking in what one would consider a "better" beef. Korea is a land of mountains and does not have much space for raising cattle. Koreans also marinade or slow cook many of their beef dishes using natural tenderizers, negating much of the aged flavour that one would get in the west. Most of the frozen beef from America is more tender and has more flavour than Haun-ooh. Trust a beef loving foodie in a country where the domestic beef is overpriced crap. Basically, you dont know what you are talking about.

Actually - the most popular Korean beer these days is Kloud. OB, Cass, and Hite are seen with derision or considered with nostalgia for the 90s-early 00s. I also think the food gets a similar treatment here: comparing Korean food in Korea when you were last in Korea (was it '96? '06? '12?) vs. Korean food in US in 2016 is a completely unfair comparison, which is a mistake that a lot of Americans make, perhaps including Mr. Kang. Food scene these days evolves at lightening speed. Finally, note that in Korea you can choose bbq places serving prime American beef, Australian/ NZ beef, OR Korean beef, whereas in the US you only have US beef.

No hes comparing apples to apples--in this case kbbq to kbbq--and his reason is bc America is "cattle country" ie, the beef here is better, which its not. I wouldn't say it's better in the U.S., but it is cheaper, so I guess you could say "better value". Korea has to import it's beef from Australia or New Zealand. A lot of that beef is grass fed, which is a bonus. At Burger King, their burger meat is grass fed from New Zealand (BK in Korea is much better than in the states, better quality). The can that you sit on can be opened and that's where you'd put your winter coat and/or belongings ( just don't forget them there after you've got hammered on someks..)

Hi! Your video has made me really want to try Korean BBQ. I live in NJ, but any time i mention Korean BBQ to someone, they think of one thing: bulgogi And, this is just a stir fry as the places they describe. I really want to find a place in NJ that will serve something like what I see in your video. Do you have any suggestions or do you know any places in New Jersey that would offer the same or similar experience? I would deeply appreciate any help or guidance you could provide.

LA does not have better korean bbq than korea. Pork or beef I dont care. Please stop informing people with this bullshit. Korean beef (Hanwoo) and korean pork especially from Jeju Island blows anyhting from the states away. LA koreans always do this. I have nothing against LA, but only korean americans from LA have this weird pride about the food they have there. I have had korean food all over the US and u can find good korean food in alot of the major cities outside of LA that are the same.or better. Especially DC, Jersey and the ATL. This host mentions hongdae as a place of comparison when mentioning kbbq from the states and Korea. Please know that area is a univeristy town with food for kids with a college budget. You want good shit u gotta pay and thats anywhere in the world. Korean food is best in its home country period.

Obviously he doesn't know shit about how to eat Korean BBQ. You NEVER EVER start Korean BBQ with Chadolbaegi!! You usually finish with Chadolbaegi since the fat portion of the meat is larger than most of other parts of beef. And you think LA has better bbq than Korea? You gotta be shitting me. Come to Korea and try Hanwoo (the breed of cattle raised in Korea) which I personally think is one of the best kind of beef you can bbq. SMH Eater. Very disappointed with this one.

Hey everyone! Thanks for watching the second installment of this Korean barbecue series. I've had some very good barbecue in Korea, and the best stuff is pretty comparable to what you'll find in Los Angeles. I really appreciate some of the new school elements of places like Magal and Kang Ho Dong Baek Jeong because they reflect the street-side restaurants you'll find in Seoul. Those street spots in Korea tend to have pork offerings galore, but in LA it's all about the beef (well, the pork is wonderful too but I think Korean pork keeps up with America's). Anyways, thanks for adding to the conversation and chiming in with your comments. Cheers!

Comparable to what you'd find in LA? That is a riot. Have you had A++ grade Hanwoo at good Korean BBQ restaurants? The marbling in your video is pretty mediocre compared to the beef I've seen in Seoul.

Alex Lee Cool, bro. I lived in Korea for 2.5 years. I had Korean friends. We ate bbq together. They would always get freaked out if I tried to brown the meat. They flipped it like a million times and made sure it was cooked all the way through. That's cool if you like it browned, but in my experience, it's not how Koreans in Korea like to cook their bbq.

you'd think that but it's not the case. idk wtf happens to it while it's being transported there. my uncle who has a small business here in chicago always hand picks the meat that he's going to use and sell. he said that while in california when he and my other uncle (who lives there) went to go buy meat (for a carne asada) he was met with an unholy sight! he said that the meat had a strange brown tint to it (not as in a natural tint but, as in this meat fucked sorta way) and that it smelled in a way that he didn't even know meat could smell. he said that even meat packing plants did not smell like that. when he told my other uncle about the strangeness of the meat my uncle looked at him confused as if he didn't even know what he was talking about. he was so grossed out by the quality of meat in california that he refused to eat meat at all.

Cows are grazers, they are meant to eat grass. Feeding them grain to fatten them allows more E coli to live in the gut. I am lucky enough be related to people who raise cattle in a high valley, and only feed them grass in summer. The meat is lean and very good. Despite the lack of marbling, it is not tough at all, at least the rib-eyes I get. I only eat beef a few times a month.

I love this series, but this is your most poorly researched video in the KTOWN series. I see your point about beef in NA, but you missed a lot of variables. Pork belly, Jeju pork, and hanwoo beef in Korea is far superior to NA. The prices in Korea are also a fraction of those in the US. Korea charges about half or less than the US and no tips. Also with the US having one of the most obese populations in the world (that promotes "all you can eat") it is no surprise that people think of Korean bbq when they think of Korean cuisine. Diners in Korea are attracted to a multitude of options (soups, stews, Korean fried chicken, etc...) aside from simply Korean bbq.

Obviously this guy has never lived in Korea. Korean BBQ is NOT better in LA than in Korea. Beef here is good and in general better than average beef in Korea. However there are grades of beef in Korea that rival Wagyu and it is insanely expensive and way beyond what is in the US. A nation that has tens of thousands of restaurants will have much better restaurants than a dinky city that has a few hundred. Beef is just 1/2 of KBBQ... hands down Korea has much better Pork.

"Korean" barbecue were first introduced by Korean immigrants who lived in LA. They asked local butchers on cheaply parts that were just often thrown out such as the tails, feet, and ribs, and made dish out of them.That's why the mainland Koreans call it LA Kalbi(ribs). Before you mainland Koreans bring in the horseshit claim that the "LA" stands for LAteral Cut, know that such claim is bullshit: because 1), nobody here in the states abbreviates words like that - it makes more sense to take the initial letters of each words; 2) it still was first made by the Korean immigrants of Los Angeles, California. The tl;dr is that yes, it is better here in socal because it's where it originated.

There's is so much misinformation here. Either u r misinformed yourself, mid communicated, or just making stuff up. Term Korean BBQ as it is used here in the west is not BBQ in the traditional sense since smoking is not the main method of cooking. Instead it's grilling over fire. Usually and historically it is done w charcoal, which also has many levels of quality, incidentally and importantly. Regardless, cooking raw or marinated cuts of meat over fire at tableside is Korean BBQ. Obviously sauces, marinades, condiments, etc make the dish Korean. Otherwise what would be the difference from yakiniku? Stating that Korean immigrants to LA specifically introduced kbbq with no qualifiers muddles ur intention. R u saying they created it? LA created one particular cut called LA galbi, sure. How about every other cut? We can have a real conversation about food if u so desire but don't state bizarre nonsense about LA's role in KBBQ history.
