A Wanderlust For Life

4 жыл бұрын

We've used the same luggage for about 7 years now and it's held up incredible well through our 100+ days of travel per year. That luggage brand is eBags. This is not sponsored and we bought 2 of 3 of these bags 5-7 years ago. However, I've reached out to eBags to test out the newest addition...the eBags travel rolling backpack, so that was gifted to me.
I created this video because I often get asked for advice on luggage and because my eBags rolling duffel bag has minimal marks on it from so many years of travel, I can highly recommend it and this brand. I hope this review is helpful to you! Please let us know in the comments what your favorite luggage is.

I have the Mother Load backpack and used only that for a 16 day trip to Europe in 2019. It was perfect! My husband has the wheeled backpack and loves it, too. On a recent trip to California I somehow sprained my neck on the outgoing flight while lugging it on a shuttle, at the airport, and on the plane. Being 3 years older now and not a spring chicken, I’ve decided I need wheels. They don’t seem to make the rolling backpack anymore. I accidentally bought the rolling duffel, thinking it was the rolling backpack. I’m trying to decide whether to keep it and your video is helping me. It sounds like it works just fine, although it does seem to be a bit smaller. I love the backpack option when you’re going up and down those stairs, especially in London tube stations, like you said. I love the eBags Mother Load because it is seriously durable and quite functional. I love all the zipper compartments and the look in general. I do use packing cubes and they fit perfectly in the main area. I got them from Rick Steves site (I hope that’s ok to name drop!). Keeps everything very organized. I also carry a memory foam travel pillow, a plastic case for liquids, noise canceling headphones, all the charging cords, a power bank, pair of shoes, the usual toiletries, a tablet, and probably more. Amazing bag! Glad to find another Ebags aficionado! I’m subscribing to your channel. You’re fun! Thanks for the scoop. Just what I was needing.

This was so great to read, thank you! And you can name drop Rick Steves any time 😊 The Rolling Duffel is my go-to for over 8 years now and think it's the perfect size. I agree, it's nice to meet someone else who loves them, too. Every other KZfaqr seems to love the Away bag, but for now, i stay loyal to Ebags 😁

My husband and I both have the Motherlode Weekender (regular size) that we used in Europe for 2 weeks. They are a great size to hold all our stuff, but I found mine to be very heavy when fully packed so I've been trying to decide on adding the wheeled duffle or the wheeled backpack to my collection. I like the idea of being able to roll the backpack, but still be able to carry it on my back if needed. The rolling duffle also seems nice though. Decisions decisions!
@aWanderlustForLife
@aWanderlustForLife 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't gotten the chance to use the wheeled backpack yet but I love the idea of having the backpack option, too. But my wheeled duffel has been at my side for so long that it's basically my best friend. I just figured there will be times when rolling it just isn't an option. For me, that means the London Underground (not a lot of escalators and elevators), the steps in certain parts of Italy, and so on.

Hi! Thank you for this review! When comparing the wheeled duffle to the rolling travel backpack, do you lose a lot of space with the backpack/wheeled version? I'm wanting the versatility of having a backpack option, but I don't want to lose any space. I've seen that be an issue with the osprey backpack/wheelie bag combos. Thoughts?

Me too I’m about quality. I love the zippers, the wheels too. The handles on the out side to grab in 2 places. eBays are awesome. I recently got the oculus quest 2 and the containers they make for them aren’t big enough for the head set, gear and controllers and my head strap I bought for the oculus broke because I tried to put all my stuff in the container I bought for it. Bits getting returned and I bought another eBay pro jr. just for my break system. Do you have the flat bag, they are great lots of pockets vibrant colors and mellow colors. The larger cooler I use every day. I have a back pack with wheels eBay for my electric scooter so I can go into stores or restaurants with it. Not comfortable leaving it outside locked up, every lock can be broken into just about. eBays are awesome!!!! 😀.

Thanks for the video! I’ve been trying to decide between those 3 bags for awhile. Does the backpack-only version fit under the seat of an airplane? Also, I’ve been worried about the extra weight of the wheeled backpack. Do you think it’ll be too heavy once it’s full? Thanks!!!
@aWanderlustForLife
@aWanderlustForLife 3 жыл бұрын
I've never put it under a plane seat from what I remember, it's always in the overhead bin since I feel it's made for that. You may be able to if it's not completely packed and you're short and don't need the foot room. But it will definitely not be considered a personal item from the airline. I use the wheeled backpack for short times on the back. So, on my bike, or when it makes more sense than wheeling it. It was more comfortable than I expected but it really depends on how much you put in it. It does add extra weight for sure. I wouldn't use it in place of a backpack. I would use it as a wheeled bag that you can convert to a backpack if needed. For example, in Italy when you need to go up a bunch of step to get to your hotel, in London when navigating the Tube (why are there not more escalators in London?!), or when on a bike for a short distance. I would not use it as a backpack that you can wheel around. Does that make sense? The backpack version is much lighter with less structure.

We have been using our Motherlode backpacks since 2010 and they still look brand new. We have 3 sons so we now have 4 regular sized motherlode backpacks and I bought the junior for myself. I also have the 21" mini rolling duffel which I also love. I really wanted to get the Motherlode rolling backpack because I've been hoping for years that they would make a rolling version of the backpack because I love the straps inside. Now I wish they made a rolling junior size. Can you do a more in depth video on the Motherlode rolling backpack? I want to know the exact measurements because people on the ebags site are saying that it is 24" high and not 22". Thanks
@aWanderlustForLife
@aWanderlustForLife 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! I just measures the rolling backpack and its 22" tall. If you measure diagonally, it's about 24". It's pretty much the same size as your 21" rolling duffel (which is closer to 22"). I hope that helps!

Do you have more information on the rolling back pack? I am waiting for them to restock. If you pack the same items in it as the jr, is it a lot heavier. A detailed review of the jr and the rolling backpack would be great. I have the junior. Thank you.
@aWanderlustForLife
@aWanderlustForLife 2 жыл бұрын
Great idea! But since you asked I'll tell you that unless you KNOW you need both wheels and backpack straps, I would stick with the Jr or the 21 rolling duffel. It's almost a pound heavier than the rolling duffel which just seems wrong. BUT, I would take it to places I know don't have escalators or elevators. Honestly, I love the rolling duffel the most and sometimes use the Jr. Rarely do I use the rolling backpack.

I have! A few times now for staycations :) I love the versatility of it (which is why I chose it), but it's mostly a rolling bag that doubles as a backpack if you need it. I wouldn't get it if it's the other way around (you need a backpack that you occasionally need to roll). But I'm happy with it when riding my bike with it on my back (it's never too long) and when rolling it.

A Wanderlust For Life I was wondering if at some point you would do a packing video on what type of cubes or method you use with the wheeled backpack.. it is different trying to play Tetris lol there are several videos for regular backpack and rolling suitcases but no tips on packing the wheeled backpack.. just a thought.. lol I have to try and figure out how to fit a full size pillow.. rumple blanket from REI, and a build a bear teddy bear.. (have to travel with the bear lol kid says so lol). So if you ever find yourself wanting to do a video for packing it, it would be great to see what you think...

@@traceym6873 It packs very similarly to the rolling suitcase. I don't see myself doing a packing video specific to the bag because I just roll up clothes and stack them in.
