Never too old to learn. In the past years I have changed spark plugs, filters, carburetors, and other parts in order to get a failing 2 cycle to run. I never found much information about the spark arrestor,, In the past I have thrown away several good yard tools not knowing that this was my culprit. When you cranked that echo, the sound told me you were on to something. I cleaned my Echo Weed Trimmer's spark arrestor and she ran like a new one. THANKS SO MUCH....

thank you, sir. I watched several other guys fixing these, and they were all about the "hidden" hi/ lo speed adjustments, but none talked about this spark arrestor. I bought a kit, changed filter/ carb/ gas lines and still my echo had a VERY VERY hard time cranking up and staying lit. I watched your vid and bam! The spark arrestor was carbon cake... a little wire brush action and this thing is singing now..

Hank Bridges Actually you want to set the hi mixture for highest rpm then just a touch richer until the speed just barely backs down. Highest rpm is too lean, don’t forget the fuel is the only lubrication for the piston in a 2 cycle and you don’t want to overheat it. I never think to check the exhaust screen though after all the years of fixing these things!

Did you figure out the problem ? i have the same issues with mine so i changed the carb. and seems like it didnt help

No, unfortunately I think I’m gonna have to buy a new one, either that or I might just replace the exhaust. It seems to be easily overheating and then shutting off.

No shame in replacing it. Sometimes it makes the most sense.

Turns out that there was build up in the exhaust port right at the piston. Removed it and it runs like new. You have to remove the whole muffler to see it.
