Eclavdra of House Eilservs - epic character - glad someone knows this stuff. ; )

While being closer to the war, Snurr's court was probably safer than the Vault. Snurr was a nominally loyal ally and his hall was one of the most heavily defended places in the Flaness. While in the Vault, Eclavdra was surrounded by other houses who would love to destroy Eilservs. She just didn't count on a group of bat crap crazy adventurers getting into the hall.

With everything that ended up happening regarding Lolth, particularly her promotions in power and importance, all of Eclavdra's machinations are consistent with the kinds of things Lolth expects her priestesses to do (including "abandoning" her). The only thing Lolth really disapproves of is not trying to become more powerful.

I have one of Eclavdra Eilservs clones in the Hool Marshes ordered by Iuz. Brokering an alliance with Aulicus the black dragon but runs into Sakatha the Lizard King. To start a campaign of harassment in the south to split and weaken the Keoland forces. From the war in the north. On the southern coast the Saltmarsh conflict with Sahuagin, Scarlet Brotherhood, Dwarven miners and pirates.

Evlavdra is a character I’ve heard of, but as I didn’t get into game settings until relatively late, I had no context for. As a result it’s very interesting to learn the history and origins of her!

Lots of things to say! Very good points at the end about Abyssal politics and 'bargaining chips'. Also a very good point (how I understood the state of things) about Eclavdra moving around religions as a means to her own ends. Coming back to Eclavdra 'appearing again' - she is in MM3 for 4th Ed as Lolth's exarch and (best yet) Supreme Leader of Lolth's Mortal Cult, and has an abode in Expedition to the Demonweb Pits. I love the implication that she beat out every other ambitious cleric of the goddess for supreme power

Carl Sargent’s fork in continuity (in his return of Eclavdra to Lolthianity) is striking, since Sargent generally treats the first two Gygax novels as canon. I suspect Carl wanted to put Lolth back into the Oerthian factions, whereas it’s notable that Gary completely downplays his own Demon Queen of Spiders after 1980. Lolth is all but absent from the Gord books, both pre- and post-TSR. I always attributed that to Gary presuming that the events of the GDQ modules “happened” at some point, and Lolth was vaguely “laid low” (a phrase that could be interpreted to include her destruction in module Q1).

Started with Mystara but always wanted to play in the Greyhawk setting. Looking at using Castles and Crusades rpg as the rule set.

Eclavdra is honestly one of my fave drow villains, that I plan to basically revive her as a main bad for a set of stories I may plan.

Thanks for this I’m running the GDQ series for my 5e group and this and your modules D4 and Q2 are going to really help. I am thinking about conflating the EEG with Tharizdum and ultimately Nyarlathotep.

Drow rhymes with cow, not grow. Not my rule, but Gary's/TSR's. A great video about a great villain. She was such a challenging opponent, and almost too powerful since she could just reappear (via clones) no matter how many times she is killed. The Gord books with Eclavdra's clone reminded me too much of the Markessa "clone" from the Slavers series. I didn't like that as much. She was as involved and detailed a character as any of the heroes, and that was a lot of fun.

I've recently played with the idea of replacing Nezznar the black spider from Lost Mines of Phandelver with Eclavdra, as opposed to introducing her in Against the Giants, since LMoP is designed for low level 5e.
