Two of the greatest boxers ever! Eder Jofre a Brazilian boxer who was considered by many experts the best fighter poud-for-pound in the world was undefeated until this fight with 52 wins. He finished his career with a record of 72-2-2 with 50 knockouts... unfortunatly this two loses were to harada; both times in a split decision and in Japan. Harada left a record of 55-7 with 22 knockouts.

Thanks for the clarification. I've never given much thought as to where to rate Jofre all time pound for pound. I thought that you meant top 20 Bantamweights and I just couldn't figure how anyone could not rate Jofre in the top 20 all time bw.

You have a LOT to learn about boxing. Harada was a great fighter, Jofre struggled with weight for both these "past prime" fights. He would retire and come back to win the festherweight title. I'd like to see your top 20! Jofre is one og the three GREASTEST fighters to EVER step into a ring, and size-anyweight!!! -Rick Farris World Boxing Hall of Fame- Director/Historian

What I know of Jofre. A great Bantamweight with wins over guys like Medel, Caldwell, Caraballo, etc and Featherweight wins after his comeback against guys like Saldivar(at the end of his career) and Jose Legra(same). His resume is what falls short of ATG status, but his dominance, and his comeback put him there. In the lower weight classes, often fighters age sooner, and for a fighter to make a comeback after showing signs of decline already is remarkable, especially considering he moved up.

i understand your arguement. Most boxing fans today judge fighters by who they fought rather than how they fought. He spent a great portion of his career as a Thai Kick Boxer and was a legend at that. he did'nt start orthodox boxing till he was 21. I thought he was great at least, he was a true champ in my book. I think he would've beaten anyone at his weight during his era. Why he did,nt fight Moon we'll never know but i don't take that away from him.

for the flyweight division, yes.i can't pick anyone at that division that hit as hard as he did. he had an iron chin as well.i'm probably not going to change your mind but give the guy a break, he accomplished alot in a tough sport.

Ranking fighters depends entirely on the criteria being used. If two people don't agree on the criteria, there is no real discussion. Even giving a ranking without criteria is meaningless. Those discussions are quickly very tedious. Jofre and Harada were both great and this was an exciting fight for the action, the setting and the significance. It doesn't get much better.

I'd actually favor Jofre over the two of them, Olivares being the closer bout, and the more exciting bout. Still, I stand by what I said, there is no argument whatsoever for rating Jofre that high all time. At Bantamweight, yes. P4P, no.

In the Super Flyweight division he probably hit has hard as anyone, though he has some competition from guys like Moon and Darchinyan. Overall though, through all weight classes and taking into account more than just power, there's no way he belongs anywhere near a top 20. There are a few fighters from his own division who deserve to rank higher based on accomplishments, as they actually fought the best around the time, whereas Galaxy didn't.

And hitting hard is a just reason for ranking among the top 20 P4P fighters in the history of a 120 year old sport over 17 weight classes? There have been quite a few fighters that hit hard, I doubt he'd rank among the top 20 under that criteria alone.
@Mowglieboy69
@Mowglieboy69 16 жыл бұрын
He's arguably the #1 BW of all time, so I agree on that, but he was nowhere near past his best, he was in the heart of his prime, that claim holds no water whatsoever. I was saying he was not a top 20 P4P, he is the greatest Bantamweight.

Heart, definitely displayed by both guys. But then again, what do you expect from a guy who on one hand was a dominant bantamweight champion and only lost twice in his career...to a guy who's nickname is "Fighting". If that's your nickname, people know you've got heart, the only guys worthy of carrying that mantle these days are guys like Gatti and Corrales.

Jofre is universally regarded by boxing authorities as one of the top five greatest Bantamweights of all time. Jofre lost his two fights to Harada (another all time great Bantamweight and Flyweight) because he was slightly past his best and had difficulty making weight. If you think that Jofre (70-2-4, 50 KO) doesn't even deserves to rank in the top 20 all time Bantamweights then you just haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about.

If you were referring to me, here's my top 20, in no order: Robinson, Greb, Armstrong, Langford, Ali, Duran, Charles, Leonard, Ross, B. Leonard, Whitaker, Pep, Louis, Walcott(Barbados), Walker, Gans, Fitzsimmons, Moore, Monzon, Hagler. Now, which of those does Jofre outrank? Also, who does he outrank out of guys like Arguello, Griffith, Canzoneri, Chavez, Saddler, Tunney, etc? I need to learn my boxing? No, I just don't rate Jofre quite as high as the above. I await your response.

I'm pretty sure the previous post was not authored by Rick Farris. And if it was, he's totally blown his cover as a credible source. Jofre was a fine fighter with a terrific record but my money's on Olivares and Zarate to knock him out within 10 rounds. A top three fighter P4P? That's outta' hand right there. Settle down there "monicapinhodemenezes"...or whoever you are.
@alfarabi73

I don't know about that. I'd be find it hard to determine the winner in either of those hypothetical matches. But Jofre is more consistent than Olivares; and he's more multi-faceted than Zarate.

Do you think Ricardo Lopez is a top 10 ATG? Obviously Jofre has a better resume than Lopez, but neither are ranked according to that, but rather their skills, dominance, and consistency. What I'd like yo uto do is tell me how he'd outrank Armstrong, Greb, or Robinson if he's top 3. While we're at it, how does he outrank Langford. The above 3 have infinitely better resumes, and were multi weight greats. How does he outrank them? For a Hall Of Fame Historian, you sure don't know your stuff.

Undoubtedly, Pacquio is a great fighter and would beat Harada and Eder, however, I'm sure Pacquio not call them'' tomato cans''. Disrespect is not part of the sport, and does not serve civilized relations. Disregarded the Filipinos, who once said'' that Filipinos are worth less than a dog'' and had shot, anyone older than 10 years in the Philippines. '' You remember the suburbs of hell''?

You want me to tell you what I know of the fighters I named? What do you think I did? Just randomly assorted them after looking at a lot of historian's lists? What a close0minded fool you are. You act like I'm insulting Jofre. Anyone who claims a fighter with Jofre's resume(even with his amazing comeback and great consistency) is a top 3 ATG is the one who hasn't a clue what he's talking about.

How do you justify Galaxy ranking in there? He ranks about 5th of his era in just his division. He has to be the most overrated fighter ever, despite the fact that only die-hard fans know of him. Almost all of them except the informed seem to think he rates extremely high for one reason or another, likely Ring Magazine's incompetent ranking of him. There is no reason he should even rate above the other JBW's of that era like Watanabe, Moon, Konadu, and Roman. Caprentier is also quite overrated.
