You can reliably sort mud from clay from the simple fact that the clay uses the "guitar" soundfont on the noteblock. So maybe you can adapt you sculk block sorter to try it on your machine

@@theaureliasys6362 THIS! I thought that as soon as I saw how long the machine was. I thought, "why reach 95% efficiency when you could toss items on a conveyer belt and punch out the blocks that let items pass by timing a piston a few blocks along the belt?"
@mambodog5322
@mambodog5322 2 жыл бұрын
@@theaureliasys6362 Wouldn't you need a hopper minecart at a precise y level because regular hopper speed is too slow? The blocks are coming in at 1 every 4 game ticks, but hopper speed is one item every 8 game ticks. I can imagine it's still possible, just more complicated. For example: An item is dispensed on the block stream, and a 5 minute timer is set for later. If a mud block gets pushed in, then a hopper minecart picks up the item, feeds it into one of 2 hoppers it's sitting on, and that is detected, so the mud block gets separated and the 5 minute timer is reset. If the timer runs out, then the item despawned, so dispense a new item. The main problem with that would be the resetting of the timer, but I bet ilmango's a lot smarter than me and can come up with another solution.

For sorting out the mud blocks you could use a hopper bellow the block line an an item on dropped on top, so when a mud block passes through detects the item getting into the hopper, then push the block out and drops a new item on top. The collected item can be reutilized. Maybe if mud blocks slip through just put a second filter.

@@bobparker1671 ye, exactly. I'm the one who shared this trick with Ilmango in the first place, so I know how it works. Sadly it can't sort blocks with specific instruments, it can only sort blocks with unique instrument from blocks without unique instrument. The sorter sees wool and stone as blocks with unique instruments, it can't differentiate them. The reason is because these blocks are moving, and when they move, observer will be activated no matter what instrument these blocks have.

Hey ilmango, there is a way to make a 100% efficient design that takes even less dripstone, but it requires a total redesign. Basically every single mud block goes it’s own chamber to turn into clay, and an observer detects the change and pushes it out so a new mud block can go in the chamber. The chamber design and the loading and unloading of chambers would take some figuring out though

I think if somebody REALLY wanted to flush out the machine, they could just detect when the dirt generator stopped, and then start a dropper timer or something to switch both input and output from the system to clear out most the clay. you would probably still have stuff in the blast chamber, but the conversion cells would be clear.

Could you make a system where it's detected when the mud is converted to clay? It probably couldn't take a block stream, but with input chests and a player continually placing blocks when space is available you could guarantee that all the dirt would be converted to clay. Some kind of block storage might also be possible, such that when the storage is filled it reroutes it to a blast chamber and switches back when the storage empties. You could even have the dirt stream split 50/50 into mud and dirt at this stage, creating a farm that produces dirt, mud, and clay with no player input!!!! Such a system would be wildly more complicated I'm sure, and would almost definitely produce fewer clay blocks per hour, but I'd love to see it regardless. 100% efficiency is too satisfying!

For sorting clay from mud, since the mud block is lower, cant you pick up an item through it? I'm not sure how feasible it would be, but you could maybe dispense an item on top of it, hopper underneath, and if the hopper picks up the item, it's a mud block, otherwise it's clay, then you flush the item off the top of a clay block using a water stream. then afterwards you could send mud blocks to a second one of these systems, and loop the output of the second one back into the output stream of the first, so that the mud blocks keep cycling around and only clay goes into the blast chamber. Also, if that system were to work, would it be more beneficial to only have one of the sections, then keep looping mud through a single section until it becomes clay? right now a lot of random ticks are being "wasted" on clay, if I'm understanding it right, and if it was just mud on top, the system would be more efficient? since a certain percentage of the mud is being converted in the first section, then a percentage of the remaining mud in the second and so on, whereas if you just keep looping the mud through a single section, it would be that percentage of all the of the mud all the time

Could you add more dripstone to a system for better effecieny? For example in all conveyer belts and into blast chamber.

So you could theoretically create a stone to brick converter with these machines? Starting from stone to moss to rooted dirt to clay, then an automatic smelter with the dropped clay balls?

Does pointed dripstone get block update, when it starts dripping? Because if it does, you can easily distinguish mud and clay this way. (but I'm not a redstone genius, probably armor stand is easier)

Could you put pointed dripstone below the output line to try to convert more mud to clay on it's way to the blast chamber? I know it can't be converted while moving but I think there is time when it's not moving at all.

If moving blocks ignore the dripstone tick, would it make any difference if you filled up one side completely then the other side in an alternating way? so the left gets to sit uninterrupted while the right fills up? or even go slice by slice?

Can you use the height difference between clay and mud blocks to filter out the mud blocks as blocks and send them back into the system if they fit? You'd want to give priority to incoming blocks so you don't jam up whatever's inserting blocks into this module, but you should be able to make the separator in such a way that if the input is already operating at peak capacity, the piston that tries to push the mud blocks out of the clay/mud filter just can't push and the mud gets blown up and filtered out as an item. I'm not sure how exactly you'd detect the height difference that fast, though it should definitely be possible if you do the filtering before you fully merge everything (one thing that comes to mind is having an armor stand on top of the block stream; you try to push it onto the adjacent block and if it can go, you've got clay, while if it can't go, you've got mud, but that would be pretty slow because you need to detect the armor stand moving or not, and then you need some mechanism to lift the armor stand back up if it _is_ mud. Lots of interesting problems, but it should be possible. Failing that, you can use a system which dispenses an item on top of the block stream and has a hopper under it. If the item gets picked up, you have mud. However with how long it takes comparators to update, that'd probably be half-speed at best, and you also have the problem of dealing with the item despawning if you have no mud for 5 minutes. *EDIT:* Should have watched the last minute of the video first lmfao

It would be cool to see a mud-clay sorter. If you can't do it with noteblocks, you need to use the fact that mud isn't a full block. That's also more time-resistant. It would probably use shulkers, minecarts or items

if you find every spot in that machine where a mud block sits above an air block for any period of time, you could in theory bump the rates up a tad by placing blocks with dripstone below. Like those 1 wide gaps between each module, is there any reason there can't be dripstone there?
