Why don’t these conduit bending machines come pre-marked with permanent 30º and 90º lines that won’t rub off in the first place?

I dont know why Sparks conduit benders dont, some plumbers copper pipe benders do.

I was racking my van out today. and as you do, I got the bubble stick out, of course about as much use on a boat too. I have been meaning to buy this gadget for ages for the table saw, but you reminded me I need one to rack the van. Or I could just use the app.

I use a little flat bubble level marked with 30, 45 and 90 degrees which does the same job as the inclinometer. Great tips though :)

got our former all marked out by cutting a slot with a hacksaw. makes repeat bends quick and easy. also you can use a level with a rotating veil.

Sorry Gary. Thats a plumbers tip😉, I first marked my plumbers pipe bender nearly 20 years ago. The advantage of tippex is it is removable, so if you need to repeat custom bend angles they are easy to do, then the mark can be removed. For bend angles I use to do regularly I scribed the mark with a scroggy. At a certain point of experience you stop looking for marks as eyeballing can be faster and more suitable as few buildings are perfectley square.

im not sure what its called but the alluminum part that holds the conduit at the other side, thats not always the exact same position so those lines you marked may not always be accurate

You could always put 2 saw mark's on the former with a saw .

Get a drill, mark it with a thin drill bit. Correction fluid problem solved :D

BIN have that on thier machines but no aftermarket kit to retrofit to machine.

Klein Tools 935DAG, for those wanting to snag one. I use a Klein Tools 6.25 in. 4-Vial Conduit Level 935AB4V - Your standard magnetic level but with vials for 30, 45, 90 & 180° bends, can either attach to steel conduit or clamp into plastic conduit. A fantastic pair of tools either way. Here's a question; Is it worth putting permanent marks on your bender to indicate the various angles?

Yes, very worth it. Just make sure you mark it including the spring back.

Very curious how this bends EMT, which is commonly used in the states. I realize that EMT is used sparingly in the UK. If you could do a video comparing both with this bending machine, that would be interesting. Does 1/2 EMT kink on this machine is the question?

EMT is lighter gauge and this is for 20mm steel conduit.

I have a Record conduit bender and I cry every time I have to move it about as it weighs a tonne, always traps my fingers or the handle swings round and bashes me on the head. I love conduit work 🤕🤡🐔

What if you didn’t have that inclination device. You couldn’t have put the tipex without it.

You beat me to it. Yes your right, without the inclineometer the tipex top tip would just be a random tipex line on a pipe bender.

Bend it, check it against a straight edge, put it back in, give it a slight squeeze and mark the former. That's how I've always done it

The biggest question is why do these conduit benders not have all of the useful angles marked out on them to start with? Seems like a ridiculous oversight to me.

But Gary,you marked the former after using the inclinator, it should have been the other way around. Plus conduit bends according to the ambient temperature and the manufacturer.
