I agree completely - in the original film, the huge enormity of his decision is undercut by the fact that he 'owns' the ring, and you know he is the hero. The fact that these princes and warriors and scholars (and an angel) were discussing how to save the lives of every living being, and the least qualified person to do it was the only one brave enough to do it is lost. That line helps bring home the fact that Frodo had never even left the Shire before, or likely even heard of Mordor - before he volunteered, he was eager to go home to his comfy house and live in peace, like all hobbits. He stuck his hand up for this quest so that he could help the world, at the cost of himself. His story is not Bilbo's. He is not eager for adventure, nor locked in by companionship - he is doing it purely because he feels he needs to help, and he never gets the happy ending he deserves.

@@Tyraeleon Aragorn is part Elf, he is a decedent of Elros who was part Elf as well. Aragorn was also raised by Elrond when his father was killed in battle so Elrond took him and Aragorn's mother in and basically raised him like a son until he became of age and told him he was meant to unite Gondor. So it's no surprise he knows Elven customs, he was raised there in Rivendell.

One of the best scenes. "Mordor Gandalf, is it left or right?" is such a powerful line. It shows how the ring bearer didn't really know much about the enemy he was sent to face. He was drawn to the ring, the only reason why he accepted the quest. It's power entirely consumed the attention of those who came in contact with it, which was it's downfall after all.

I agree partially - an amazing scene, indeed showing his naivety, but I don't think he accepted the quest solely from being drawn to the ring. In the council meeting, Frodo realizes just how powerful and irresistible the ring is to mostly everyone else - he watches Boromir almost circum to its power before his eyes and how Gandalf stops him - he learns how much doom the existence of the ring poses to the world, and how the only solution is its destruction. Though Frodo is somewhat drawn to the ring himself, he is resilient to its evil far better than anyone else - in that moment, with everyone arguing, he realizes he is likely the only one of the group best capable of carrying it. And so, he quietly defies the ring's calling, and meekly approaches the council to say, "I will take it" Everyone realizes this is the best solution so far, and so the fellowship is formed. (Gandalf and Elrond even discuss this option earlier; how his resilience is remarkable, but Gandalf says it would be wrong to ask Frodo to carry this burden, and only agrees once Frodo himself offers) Then later, when Frodo meets Galadriel and looks in the mirror, seeing the destruction of the world if he should fail, he even offers the ring to her - This furthur proves his resilience to the evil of the ring, and furthur proves his desire to do what's best and right for the world - but in that moment, even Galadriel begins to circum to it's power, and Frodo retracts the ring - again, realizing his own resilience in this moment. It's Frodo's resilience that makes him best suited - I think that his reason for taking up the quest is much more of a sacrificial nature than a selfish one.

Time. There was almost no time for Jackson to build new sets for the production of the Hobbit, and the studio refused to delay the films to give him the time they need (somewhat understandable, as Christopher Lee himself died what a year after the final film?) The fact that they gave Jackson 3 years of prep for LOTR and not the same amount of time for the Hobbit shows their priorities.

Here you can read an absolutely understandable dialog through the views between Aragorn and Arwen even with no words. Amazon should have watched this episode carefully before doing what they have done.

It's in the extended edition, the only reason didn't add many of the extended edition scenes is because the movies where already too long, but they are meant to be there, that's why you should watch the extended edition .

It's sad they yanked so many good scenes from these movies. This scene really underscored how lost Frodo felt . . . in the original release you just had to extrapolate from the endless melancholy looks he gave.

At 0:24 you can see Boromir look at Legolas as he gives a salute to Elrond , which Aragorn gives at the same time. It's as if he's unfamiliar with the gesture & seems a bit uneasy. In the book it's shown that Boromir is not fully comprehending the situation overall & is doubtful of the idea of destroying the Ring , believing its power should be turned against Sauron as a weapon. Sean Bean's performance as Boromir impressed me throughout the film , and this is one of those moments.

Elrond is speaking outside in Rivendell ELROND: The Ringbearer is setting out on the quest of Mount Doom and you who travel with him, (the fellowship is standing in front of him) no oath nor bond is laid to go further than you will (Aragorn smiles at Arwen who drops her head) Farewell. Hold to your purpose and may the blessings of elves (looking at Legolas), and men (looking at Boromir), and all free folk (looking at Gimli) go with you. (he raises his hand and gestures for them to leave) GANDALF: The Fellowship awaits the Ringbearer. Frodo looks nervously around and turns to walk through the arches. FRODO: Mordor, Gandalf, is it left or right ? GANDALF: (places a hand on his shoulder) Left. Frodo leads out, Gandalf, Gimli, Boromir, Pippin, Merry, Legolas, Sam... Aragorn pauses and looks back at Arwen. They exchange a long glance. Aragorn smiles, nods his head, and follows the others. Arwen swallows and bows her head. The Fellowship leaves Rivendell.

It's funny that this is the only scene in the whole trilogy where Arwen shares a scene with the entire Fellowship but doesn't interact with any of them in spite of Liv Tyler's constant time off set with them. I'm surprised they never put any deleted scenes on the dvd between her and Frodo that would have shown his gratitude and admiration towards her, but they just tossed those scenes away as if Arwen had nothing to do with Frodo and she just became the princess awaiting her man to come back for the remainder of the trilogy.
