I see why you are suggesting people talk with their doctors. I have outlived 3 of mine so far. Problem is many doctors are stuck on doctrine and don't really look at new studies or anything that disagrees with what they are taught. Now-a-days, people need to take control of their own diabetes AND find doctors who know what they are talking about.

I think it would be helpful for many of us to get an understanding of cholesterol metabolism, including how dietary cholesterol results in serum cholesterol. In the past it was believed that it was impossible for the molecules to pass directly into the bloodstream.

I would appreciate your your thoughts on the following; I went on a nutrition course about 15 years ago, and I know our understanding of nutrition is improving all the time, so things may have changed. On the course we were taught that most blood cholesterol is manufactured in the liver and not directly related to what we eat. I asked about eggs, and the lecturer rated them as a good food, full of essential protein, B vitamins and healthy fats - is this still right?

Thank the 1970s-1980s and the scare tactics done against fat and cholesterol by the sugar industry and lobbyists who swindled the government to create a screwed up food pyramid and force their misguided and biased studies on the minds of the public. The last 10 years have basically shown what everyone pre-1960 knew: fat is good for you, cholesterol is not deadly (lifestyle is), your dietary cholesterol has minimal effect on your total cholesterol and sugar is bad.

Triglycerides serum level is far more suspect for cardiovascular disease. Hydrogenated fat in any amount, and high fructose corn syrup above 30 grams daily, and highly refined grains in excess of 100grams per day, are major culprits for modern diseases.

Chicken eggs contain LDL cholesterol which doctors want to minimize. Quail eggs contain HDL cholesterol that they want to increase. You can buy quail eggs at Asian grocery stores. Domesticated Asian quail called Coturnix are easy to raise and lay an egg daily year round. They are commonly raised in small cages in backyards or in apartments. KZfaq has lots of videos about how to get started.

LDL cholesterol is not a precursor for a heart attack. Major studies showed that people with high LDL did not have any more cardiac events than those with low cholesterol. Pattern A LDL can be bad for you, not pattern B. Low HDL and high triglycerides are what you need to watch for heart attacks.

I have always believed the yoke has equal amounts of cholesterol and lecithin thus the lecithin cancellsout the choleterol. The albumin has seven times lecithin than the yoke so the cholesterol is totally cancelled out from any harm...

Humans and our ancestors have been eating eggs for millions of years and we never had diabetes, or at least extremely rare. It can't be the eggs causing it. The key is to not eat processed foods, too much sugar and vegetable oils. This is true for everybody.

The eggs do not cause diabetes. They only have less than 1 carb. The eating habits we have adopted in the last more or less 4-5 decades, the decreased mobility, stress is causing diabetes. However, we need to accept responsibility for our behavior and weak control. All foods will raise glucose to a certain level; however, fats and protein are not much with fats the least not very significant. The liver can make glucose. Carbohydrates aka sugars are the ones that when consumed indiscriminately in large amounts cause the highest spikes and can eventually lead us to diabetes. Read your labels, avoid large amounts of carbs and sugars products; even the so-called healthy carbs can cause very large spikes in some people. We do not process and metabolize the same even diabetics may differ. Get a glucometer and see what foods affect you the most and minimize their consumption if you cannot completely avoid it.

3 eggs a day average for me. Low carbs, 18 or so gms of protein and fats and in my case 2 slices of wheat toast as in my case I feel I need some carbs. Low carb diets such as keto does not work well for me. Without some carbs, even with me being hyperglycemic drags me down to no energy and fatigue to the point my day is done, there is no recovering and do it all over again the next day. I actually get a very strange nausea and sick feeling with keto or lack of some carbs to try to maintain weight and energy. Eggs do work well in the mornings for me and leaves me with at least 50 grahams of carbs to utilize for the rest of the day. Yes, I have high sugar levels and have for 10 years struggled with 8 to 13.7 a1c's, yet it never changes even when I tried a keto diet plan. Pretty sure eggs are not the problem.

What about the study that suggested eggs increase the risk of diabetes by 60%? I believe there may be more than one study on this. Is that just a flawed study? Bad sampling or control group problems? It is possible that the people chosen for the study who ate eggs regularly and ended up with diabetes may have had other habits that actually caused the diabetes. But I don't know for sure. How does the medical research community view this study (which was recent)?

I also have heart disease, and I am having one heck of a Time trying to make both of these diets match up. Do you have a nutritionist that you can point me to in the right direction that can deal with a bad heart and diabetes as well. I'm on my third pacemaker and still work 6 days a week. So I'm no slouch. I'm just fat and hungry, but I'm honest. And I am a pepsiaholic. And that's no joke. At my worst I did five 2 liters a Day of Pepsi and was ready for more. Can you help a girl out

Both Coke and Pepsi are devastating people around the world especially in Latin America. Killing them. These companies should be taken to task for what the do. Rebecca get off the cola. Please. I was drinking two litres of Diet Pepsi a day and it adversely affected my heart. Too much caffeine caused atrial fib and the sweetener helped cause type two diabetes. My atrial fib is under control with beta blockers but the type 2 diabetes is here to stay and finding food to eat without driving up my sugar has been tough. I am with you in spirit.

As the Mayo Clinic reports, most healthy people can eat up to seven eggs a week without increasing their risk of heart disease. Studies have even shown that eating between one and three eggs on a daily basis improves HDL levels, which is the good type of cholesterol. HDL helps to remove some of the bad kind of cholesterol (known as LDL) from your arteries, so you want your HDL levels to be high so that they protect your heart. Of course, everyone is different. Keep in mind that people with diabetes are already at higher risk of heart disease and some research suggests that eating as many as seven eggs a week could elevate their risk even more. In short, there is research to back both cases. We suggest limiting your egg consumption-whether that's once a week or three times a week-so that you keep your heart in tip-top shape.

NOT a DOCTOR here. The car analogy fits in cholesterol control. Drugs will lower cholesterol (which is MOSTLY irrelevant to atherosklerosis) and will ruin the rest of your body. Get your doctor for a homosistein blood test, not cholesterol.
