Coming back to this thread and I have still not had one Ozito battery (I have seven of them) fail in years and years of regular use in two mowers, two chainsaws, a pole saw, telescopic pruner, angle grinder and more. Not one battery issue from Ozito. It's not a problem with batteries generally, its the EGO batteries. Even my Ryobi batteries have never had a problem in five years. Still going well in a lawn mower and line trimmer.

I believe most of my battery failures have been from misuse and or over use. Over heating and too wet. One thing I didn't like about the old batteries is that one couldn't tell how much charge the battery had and when the light turned red it might have discharged too far. With the new batteries I discharge them to the fifth light then I recharge them. One of the 10 amp hour batteries may have gotten too wet. It seems to work better now that it has dried out. I don't leave them in the truck bed anymore even if they are covered by a tarp.. Any battery that is not used properly will fail. The Nissan Leaf is a good example of that. They don't do well in hot climates. Some of the EGO batteries have turned the light red on the charger and it won't charge until the battery cools. Some of the batteries that failed I believe overheated too many times. Heat and cold can cause lithium battery degradation. For EVs it is recommended that the battery not be discharged below 20 percent and charged up to only 80 percent to make the battery last longer. What I couldn't say is why anyone else's battery failed, but these are some things I would consider before blaming the company for making bad batteries.

It was charging weird. I went back to Ace to exchange it; and the second one looked completely different. It appeared to have more features. AND I haven't had a problem with it for three years now. I had the same problem. First the battery failed during warranty and they sent me a replacement. Then the battery failed again and it was now out of warranty. Because the battery is $350! Apparently the best EGO batteries have Duracell cells inside and the newer ones with the usage gauge flashing light, are Samsung cells inside. The older, Duracell models have no letter 'T' at the end of the model number. My Duracell 5Ah one works great but the two Samsung EGO batteries flash red periodically and won't charge properly or work properly. They can be fully charged when doing this or half full or near empty, its not an overheating when in use issue. The Samsung batteries definitely seem inferior in real-world usage. I've had one replaced under warranty and now two more of the Samsung cell EGO batteries (with the letter 'T' in the model number) are flashing red again. It's not an automated depletion, battery drainage thing, as I have been using them once or twice a week...

In the last few days, I had that battery show all lights blinking red anytime I tried pressing the button to check its level. On reddit, many people have shared different sequences of holding the button, putting it on the charger, pressing the button, etc to "reset" the battery, but none helped me. What did was dropping the battery onto a rubber mat from about 6" up. No idea why, but many people on Reddit claimed it worked so I gave it a try and immediately afterwards the battery showed full when I checked it. I just edged with it and it gave me no problems at all. Ymmv.

The batteries are rated for and estimated 1000ish charge cycles so if you use these things every day and you're charging 2-3 times a day, that's roughly 66 working weeks. So just over 1 year service on the battery is about expected. My estimate in your charge rates might not be accurate though.

I had a 7.5 battery stop after a few months. When I pushed the button, three green lights would come on in succession, and then all five of them would turn red. I meant to get a replacement, but life intervened, and two months later I pushed the button again, and it turned green. So I put it in the rapid charger, and it said it was fully charged. It has worked ever since. I am wondering if an "overcharging" issue is making some batteries seem like they are failing. In any case, it is still working, and all the other batteries I have bought are still working (old and new). I have a 5.0 battery that came with my mower about 5 years ago. It won't hold a charge if you store it, but if you use it right after charging...it still works perfectly. (Edit: as suggested below, I almost never let my batteries go to zero. We're going on three years of use with our EGO mower. I've had to repair the mower itself when the speed control stopped working reliably, that was a simple repair, but now we're having battery problems and we're not sure if it's the battery or the charger. Sometimes the charger lights remain on after removing the battery, and usually that means the battery will die after only a few minutes use (even though the charger indicated a full charge). Weirdly, the charger lights remain on sometimes even after unplugging the unit. Any idea what's up with that ? Anyway, I can get the charger to work again by unplugging it until the charge lights go off, then restarting the unit, but I'm thinking that something is near the end of its lifetime. We have a very large lawn, the mower has been in hard use during the summers here, so I'll admit that it's been used plenty. Btw, I also have to sharpen the blades before every mowing. Is that true for everyone ? Thanks for the video, we're considering a rider and we're asking ourselves the same question about sticking with EGO.

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it. SO, if this is the main way you power your hand equipment, it seems like a good idea to keep a very close eye on how many cycles you’re getting out of each battery. And when power drops off, try to estimate how soon you lose 20+% of it. Otherwise, how will you ever know your cost of doing business? Not keeping track of this would be like not keeping gas receipts and just estimating it each month without looking at the cost of a gallon of gas.

It's true their tools are very good and the batteries are most expensive!......this should not happen please *EGO* do something about this, the reason why i choose this brand is because of the battery the way the arc was design is to disperse heat unlike m18 and DeWalt which tend to get rather *HOT!* plus the ego batteries each cells inside there is a thin wrapping strip that allows cooling when the battery pack itself begins to get hot,,,,,,come on *Ego* don't let us down please stick to being 1st grade A+ class product.

Hard to beat the Ego line especially with some of their new tools coming out for 2022. Just a thought but have you tried the off name brand Ego batteries? A lot of times a off name brand works better than the name brand.

I definitely agree about the tools. Yes, we've tried the Ruzix, but it failed in a few weeks unfortunately

I haven't had my mower for a yr and battery is failing. depressing - so sad I am mad. I have done business with lowes and home depot - lowes is slippery to say the least - I have not shopped there for yrs and don't plan on it. Wish I had seen your video before being out hundreds of dollars on this mower.

Goodness. Hopefully they replace it for you. There is definitely inconsistency with the newer batteries. Some fail very quickly.
