I'll tell you what though: I bet Alabama's university leadership regrets they weren't able to hold on to Sark as OC for a little longer. Judging how well he's done over at Texas, he probably would've been their go-to successor choice was he still on your staff (I remember he did an excellent job coaching you guys in the Iron Bowl in 2020 when Saban was out sick). But, it was just not to be, and the Longhorn Nation is the happiest they've been in years with him. I wonder who you guys land in the end. I've heard Kiffin and Lanning mentioned, but Oregon has deep pockets and does Kiffin really fit the mold for you guys?

LSU fan. Always be upset the way he left & pissed of thinking what could have been if he never left, but there is NO doubt that he not only turned Bama around he turned LSU program around & got us pointed in right direction. He won LSU NC & I think put us on the path for the next NC we won. Thank you Coach Saban. G.O.A.T

I gotcha beat. He ticked me off the way he left Michigan State for the LSU job. He had them headed in the right direction then BAM! He left. He went 9-2 in the 1999 season including wins over Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn State in the finale. Then abruptly left for LSU after the Penn State game. Obviously, while coaching MSU during the season LSU and Saban were in communication/negotiations. That's what ticked me off. Ever since then I rooted against him. The funny thing is I grew up in Michigan and had no connection to LSU at all. But for whatever reason I was a fan of their team. Maybe it was the uniforms. I dunno. But after Saban went there I didn't want them to win anything! My desires were not honored.

Not a bama fan by any means but since I started watching college football as a kid back in 2006. I learned to respect Nick Saban as a coach for what he has done for CFP. The coaching tree steming from him speaks volumes and will continue to see his contribution from those coaches such as Kirby smart, Dan Lanning, Lane kiffin, etc. It's definitely a new Era in CFB.

I will always admire your efforts, your drive, and your commitment to excellence. There will NEVER be a college football coach like you. Not only did he win 7 national titles, he took his team to the national championship game 10 times (appearances by season/not year of game: '03, '09. '11, '12, '15, '16, '17, '18 (yes 4 years in a row), '20 (his best team offensively, at least imo), '21....7-3 record)....11 SEC (LSU and Alabama) conference titles....16 STRAIGHT 10 win seasons to end his career....if he isn't the GOAT it is hard to argue there was ever anyone BETTER. Well done, godspeed, you did your job and you did it exceptionally well...as a UA alum ('02) we were lucky to have you take us on this amazing ride! RTR

Recently reported - Saban was in Austin to accept the job after Mack Brown was retiring (pressured). Mack found out Saban was already being announced as his successor and he reneged on retirement and had attorney Joe Jamal threaten to sue. Brown was petty not wanting to be followed by the GOAT, believing he’d be essentially forgotten. After the University felt stuck, they informed Saban, and he promptly accepted Bama’s pending offer. Bama needs to hire DeBoer now!

Alabama in no way form or fashion was, is or will be a laughingstock! There are simply years for most teams that are "rebuilding years." Alabama went through said years of 1997 through 2006. Alabama wasn't as feared as they were with Bryant and Stallings at the helm. It was just a matter of time before that sleeping elephant woke up and made a lot of teams hate to play Alabama. I would hate to be Greg Byrne, Alabama AD, right now! What an incredibly impossible job it must be to replace the GOAT! @@thomasuga5708 Alabama was very mediocre for several years between Gene Stallings and Nick Saban, but still managed to win the SEC title game and finish highly ranked one of those years. Likewise between Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings there was a decade or so when they weren’t great but still better than average. They dominated in the 60s and 70s under Bryant, in 1992, and again for 17 years under Saban, and have won national titles as far back as the 1920s. Given these facts, it’s kind of hilarious that you claim they had been trash before Saban arrived.
