What a very useful lesson this is. Lots of different metaphorical phrases are commonly used to describe situations. When categorizing , we can say that hyperbole, idioms, similes, cliches, metaphors and proverbs are the main ingredients of those phrases. How to they differ? It is a golden phrase. (metaphor) You are a rock! (metaphor) This is giving me butterflies...(metaphor) Every cloud has a silver.lining...(proverb) Revenge is a dish best served cold. (proverb) He's like a baby in wonderland... (simile) You're as mad as a brush...(simile) I'm as stiff as a wrench...(simile) She's like a cat on a hot tin roof...(simile) I'll be like a dog with two tails...(simile) That is a pain in the neck or bottom...(idiom) He was out on a limb... (idiom) On its last legs... (idiom) I'm all fingers and thumbs... (idiom) It is raining cats and dogs...(idiom) I've told you a million times...(hyperbole) There were still dinosaurs walking around the last time i was invited out!...(hyperbole - but only just!) When one door closes, another one opens...(cliche) The day is always darkest before the dawn...(cliche) And Anna's one; There are plenty more fish in the sea...(cliche)

Thank you for interesting lesson. I've not known all phrases which you taught me so that they have been very helpful. I watch Sky News almost every day. Do you know Sky News? It's British news channel on KZfaq. It's a live channel. When I watch it, I feel that many announcers' pronunciation & phrases are relatively easy to understand. However when the another people ,who are general citizens, Professors, Politicians and so on, are talking, I can't understand what they want to say very well. With watching your video, I've noticed one of the reasons is that they use many English phrases which I don't know.
