Hi Alan. The reason for the discrepancy is that the scales you have purchased have a resolution of 5 microns or 5 um. I am thinking about installing the same DRO on my Boxford model A. Love the videos. All the best. Jim.

Hello, As I get into it it would seem a 4 axis machine would be ideal for both mill and lathe. Do you know of anyone who makes a small enough scale for use on the compound? The quill could probably be fitted with a slim scale but a small scale for the scale would be better. Some reason I am not thinking of why no one seems to use the other axis. To have the depth of drilling on the same readout would be sweet. The compound axis could have the geometry built into the program so it could tell you the depth of cut at right angle to the bed even when you are using the compound at an angle. Information immediately at your fingertips. A quick way to double check your work. Very good topic. Doug

Hi Douglas. The smallest scale I know of are the magnetic type, they have a self adhesive scale and small reading head. But they come at a cost about 5 times more than a glass scale.

Hi, at 14-21 you show your drilling guide in place. How the hell did you manage to locate with accuracy the guide hole over the required mark.?????? I have a Boxford A and just received my DRO, so I'm prepping for installation. Thanks for the efforts making the video. Robert

Hi centre punch the hole position get a steel rod the same size as the drill, machine a point on the end push it in the guide and locate the centre punch mark clamp in position

Hi Martin I found fitting the DRO to the cross slide the most difficult. Due to the shape and location of the casting and gib screws. But I did fit it without drilling any holes in the cross slide see part 2 next week

Hello, Timely video as I have one set of these for my mill but am really considering installing a set on my lathe. One big problem is I will have to put on the thinking cap to see how I can install a scale at the back without interference from my taper attachment. I was also wondering in my mind how a magnetic scale would keep from attracting swarf and damaging the scale? I have also seen several KZfaq videos showing how to cut the glass scale which may be useful. I haven't mounted the mill scales yet as I have been holding off until completion of my shop expansion so am watching and absorbing all the info I can. Thanks for your contribution. Take care. Doug

Hi Doug The magnetic scales are similar to the scale used on digital callipers. But I can't figure out why they cost twice as much as a glass scale.

Hi, i have just mount mine dro on my colchester student , 2 days work!! Now i cant seth the X axis proper, diameter contra / radius, i have exakt the same model as shown in this video, do you know how to do? yours: Ben from Denmark

Hi Ben. You need to set (R-D Mode) to do that switch on the unit holding the up or down arrow key this sets it to R-D Mode which should show in the info window. Press Ent then select X,Y,or Z axis the display window shows (select axis) display should show 0 or 1. Change the number on the required axis to 1 and press ENT. If 0 the display is set actual movement if set to 1 this is Diameter mode display shows 2x actual movement. Remember you need to set the scale resolution to match the scale used and the direction so you have the correct size reading and when you turn the tool in the diameter gets smaller.

Hi again, now I've tagged in as you wrote. It worked really well. Strange that the Chinese are not capable of making an operator that is usable. For example, something as simple as telling in the book what the password is ... Thanks again for the help; Ben Johnsson

Ordered DRO from Bangood. 2 xs screen and 2 measuring rails. 150mm and 350mm 150mm measuring rail arrived ok. Bangood cancelled other to items I QUOTE they are over weight to send. So be awhere ordering DRO from BANGOOD ??? Been offered 6% discount on next order or discount points/ coupons.

HI I think they are saying if over a given weight they can't send free delivery. So sometimes they split the order into 2 parcels. As they did with me but this creates more problems as each parcel can go via a different route i.e. one may go Hong Kong to London the other may arrive 3 weeks later Hong Kong to Germany, Germany to London passing customs in Germany first EU port. If you place an order for the display and another for the scales you will have 2 parcels and 2 tracking numbers.

Hi I follow you for a while watched most of your videos very impressive is it possible to make a video how to use the DRO from A to Z slowly like you’re teaching a 4-year-old child nobody on KZfaq seems to have one everybody have very little about it but nothing in detail thanks.

Hi, What size scale are you using for the bed of your Boxford?

Hi Josh I used a 600mm scale but your lathe could have a different length bed. Just measure the saddle travel from the chuck end to the end of the bed without the tail stock and use the nearest longer scale length. Check that the length will fit the bed .

Hi Greg Banggood are just like Amazon they buy and sell products. They send me the products FOC in exchange for a review. I try to be open and will say if the parts aren't that good. Regards Alan

@@enotsengineering Hi mate I can safely say Amazon have much better customer service, banggood are great until your item is not delivered. When that happens they string you along and lie, you are only covered if you paid with PayPal. After you are successful recovering your money they close your account, I would warn anyone not to purchase any expensive items from them. I started buying from them after seeing a KZfaq review.
