Landlords are considered money-hoarding villains so often because they have the unmitigated gall to charge people for a place to live. There's a particular image associated with the stereotype of the "covetous Jew" and I've seen more than a few people use it in the context of shitting on landlords (not one specific one, mind, but anyone who owns habitable property and requires payment for other people to use it).
@JellyMyst5 ай бұрын
@@WhatIsThisEven5011 It's a damned shame such an excellent image is besmirched so. Never fails to get a laugh from me, that one.

A lot of people just hate landlords in general because the own property and charge other people to use it. Good or bad, fair or unfair, some people see them all as evil, and it's way more common than you might think.
@naekosl30594 ай бұрын
Well, it's understandable that members of the community side against the landlord given that wealthy people get demands out of the blue from activists groups to donate money or be labeled. Some self-entitled people/groups look for individual "decision makers" in an organization, and instead of submitting requests to the organization, they go directly to pressure that individual decision maker ("just say yes because it's not even your money so it's no loss to you") to shortcut the process and remove oversight and fairness.

@BurakkuHishou5 ай бұрын
Yes, some blame can be put on her for the "deadbeat" spouse leaving, because she got pregnant (either through improper planning or stupidity) with a guy that she knew nothing about. It leads to the belief that she acts solely on impulse and not choosing a good partner. The only time the moniker "single mother" is not in a bad light is if the husband died as a result of an accident or as part of the military and in which case i would use "widow" instead of "single mother" to make it sound better.

@Deathbomb95 ай бұрын
Reasons to never be directly involved with tenants. If i run my own properties, I will never expose that I'm the landlord to tenants. The smart 9nes might figure it out, but those same ones will likely have a brain and rational thoughts than will mean they aren't stupid or crazy. There are properties I plan to manage. Likely buying more as time goes on. I could and plan to do so. I will take advantage of every advantage I've earned. This can all be done from a distance and if need be I can move closer and myself and my brother can enter the service industry that applies to basically cost us as little as possible in the long run for the short term till we build to a point. A tenant like this would not be getting a renewal. They would be gone and out of my hair in less than a year. And I would never lose money to rent no matter what. I do not care. Your issues are your own. If you have to pay rent is two installments and split it between the beginning and mid month then so be it, but rent will be paid. If you stop paying I will start eviction. The tenants issues are not the landlords issues. I've never expected a break as a renter and never paid late. If you have an issue then it on you. If you can't pay then find other accommodations and with your last months rent you put down and your deposit I can likely work with you on something. But this instance is insane and the fact that there was a community of people on her side is insane. Even at my lowest point I never would've expected the landlord to cover anything for me. Always cover utilities and so on besides maybe water and sewer which was basically a connection fee and $10/mo. And even some of those were simply lumped into rent. The audacity of some people is surprising.

Even if he did have the means to fully fund her daughters education, it's not his responsibility in any way, shape or form.
@Demonoicgamer6664 ай бұрын
Someone else’s kids are not your responsibility. Even if he did take financial advantage when it came to rent that’s his right since he’s the landlord.

This is actually insane, i cannot believe that she even in her twisted world thought that a LANDLORD would pay for her daughter's education! Ever heard of a student loan?

I would sue the school for not stopping to bullying even if it is a bit much. Or atleast change the school my kids go to.

As a Christian guy, If I were as wealthy as he was, I'd offer the daughter tuition at a much cheaper college because it isn't her fault. But selling the house? No, I'd actually rather outright give it to someone who needs it than sell it for an education. A place to live is much more important than a couple years studying at some school for a piece of paper.

I would not reward coercion. That ask was outrageous, and she had no qualms hurting OP and his family. Had she humbly asked for help maybe they could’ve found a way but why try when someone goes for your jugular? I’m a Christian too. I’d have suggested crowdfunding, deferment and working for a year, scholarships, loans, anything but threatening and blackmail.

No you wouldn't do that, and if you did it wouldn't be good enough for this woman. This lady is obviously crazy for thinking her landlord should sell his property to pay for her kid. What part of this story makes you think that this person is rational? He did her a favor by letting her pay less rent, she then tried to exploit his kindness and slander his name. Get real clown.

lol the dad completely abandoned their child. Even if you dont like your partner, you can't justify abandoning your child, since he chose not to wear a condom.

I think she shouldn’t have spent money on a lawyer, if she was financially struggling… Emily is crazy if she thinks people will sympathize for her when she literally had a lawyer… Lawyers usually cost a lot!!

It boggles my mind how can someone expect their landlord to sell their property?? What was going in their head?

Where the hell does this woman and "community" think and believe that this lady's LANDLORD is responsible for HER daughter's education?!?!?! He is in no way on the hook for funding her daughter's college tuition!! Definitely NOT THE AH!!!
@tomjoad13634 ай бұрын
I can't beleive she though the argument "I'm doing what's right for my daughter" would stand in court. Publicly defacing people and spreading lies is not a good way to do what's best for her daughter. OP should have, from the beginning he feelt people were turning his back on him, spread what he did for her all along those years to set the facts rights. Don't let lies become "truth" but allowing them to float around too long.

This something you'd expect to be plot in a movie, not real life. The amount of entitlement to think that you have a right to even suggest to the property that not only should they sell. But then pay YOUR kids tuition.

I also think the mother had intentions of keeping most of the money for herself, not her daughters education. I would die of embarrassment if my mother tried to scam the landlord like that. I wonder if she is still in contact with her mother

If she wants to contribute to defaming someone as a single mother, then she should face the consequences of doing so as a single mother. Her position has nothing to do with her outrageous behavior and its only role there is simply as a means to backpedal.
