Welcome to this Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK Mini Series going through the process of converting the Google Maps photogrammetry data of city landmarks from Coventry in the UK into scenery to be used within the game.
In this fourth episode, we look at how to create level of details for a model by using the Blender decimate tool, which means only one high level of detail model is required to be captured.

Another great video. Just a couple of tips that might help you or anyone else to clean up the original model easier. When it's imported, press 7 on the numeric keypad and then 5 to go to orthogonal view, then c to go to circle selection, a small circle appears as your cursor, just draw over everything you want to select. Very fast and easy to get rid of unwanted vertices. Also in top down view, if you can orient your stadium so that it runs across the screen, or up down, you can press b to go to box selection method to remove that pitch in seconds. Other things to consider, with a messy mesh like this I would always remove doubles. Since I still use the old blender, you might have to dig around to see where they hid this in the newer version. AFAIK you will still do it in edit mode, with vertex as the selection method, then right click and bring up the context menu. There is also a command to merge vertices and you can set how close the ones you want to merge are, but I wouldn't have a clue where to find that. That will reduce the number of vertices and might be useful to repair some of those tears that you get.

Tip: when you have an 'island' to delete, hover over and click L to select linked, then delete verts.

When I created a projected with decimated Lods while building the package within the game it crashes to desktop :( What to do ??? Is there a way to create a package outside the game. I heard something like a command prompt way...

Hey brother great great stuff my friend...I'm literally losing sleep over this not working for me :( I'm getting glTFLister | Failed to load model: 'C:\Users\George\Documents\MyFSProjects\gkobject\PackageSources\modelLib\funtime\funtime.gltf'. I cant seem to import anything at all, even a frekn CUBE out of blender. Any chance at all you could somehow give me a hand? Ill get you a few coffees if you can help me lol cheers and thanks in advance.

Did you get yours working? I have the same problem. I get a similar error "glTFLister | Failed to load model: 'C:\Users\keith\Desktop\Weston\WESTONPIER\PackageSources\modelLib\WESTONPIERModel\WestonPier_LOD01.gltf'." Why is it only failing to load LOD01?. I have even tried not changing the level of detail in LOD01 so that it is exactly the same as LOD00 .Same result. I have followed this video to the letter. Very frustrating as it exports just fine if I have just a single LOD.I am using Blender 2.83.8.
