For all those criticizing Waters for his guitar playing Waters has never said he is a great bassist or instrumentalist, which is true. He is a song writer, a composer and a musician with high intellect. Some of the pieces he has created (ever heard of ""The Wall"?) are mind boggling. Many people can play something after it has been composed, the real challenge is to create music and that's what he's good at. I am a Pink Floyd fan and love all the members equally because without one, the others would not have succeeded. Something, they also know after they made Ummagumma.

Roger Waters once said that everyone who will listen Wish Yuo Were Here will preserve their memories. And he was right. Every time I listen to this song, I cry. I am crying because I remember those who are no longer there and cannot be returned. And it hurts me a lot that it's a pity that they are not there. PS. From Russia with love!

@@radiorob7543 Even as a joke, that is not a good thing to say that "Clapton is God." No way! I never liked that line. I am sure Clapton didn't like it much either. Who would, really? You know, bare with me here. Even as a guitar player, there are about ten thousand guitar players that can play all of Clapton's stuff from memory note for note now days. He was an innovator and was at the right time and at the right place, but he was/is not technically, as good as many. I have to say that his playing in the Cream days was much more adventurous and energetic, than now. The "Crossroads" live version is flawless. All of his playing on the "Wheels of Fire" album was great, but he did not grow much musically after that time, in my opinion. Sorry to say, I have to say that Eric is unfortunately overrated, just in the same way that Bruce Springstein is overrated as a vocalist. Just my opinion. I know there are going to be many that disagree with me, but that is probably why the comments section has been placed here by KZfaq. Is it not? LOL

Unfortunately, I have to agree it sounds that way. This is either the wrong key for his voice or he is just not going for singing it an octave higher the way the song is almost always performed. Put some effort into it, dude! You are Roger Waters, and we all love you and respect you. But sad to say, I think vocally, Roger's voice pretty much sucks here. Even the typical Floydish trio of female singers could not rescue the song, I think. Clapton is there, sounding good and definitely contributed well with a good effort.... nothing shoddy here about Eric's performance. He is very good here, although he is certainly no David Gilmore, but that is to say just as Gilmore is no Clapton. LOL This could have been so much better if Roger gave it some kind of effort. He did not even remember the song on guitar at first. That is very unprofessional to start and then stop in a performance. Practice the material before making a public performance, I say. I know he is known for playing bass, not guitar... but the instruments are very similar. Most bass players can at least play rhythm guitar. After he got going, Roger's guitar playing was fine, I will say, however. And I agree with the people above that say that he is a great song writer and a man of high intellect. :)

One of the many things I love from Roger Waters is that he constantly adapts songs to different times, places, gigs, musicians... without pretending anything, just for the sake of the best sound and feelings of the songs. They don't make songs like this anymore. Whoever came up with the term classic rock was spot on. This music from that short window of time in the sixties and seventies is likely to stand the test of time the way the classical composers of that small group from the past has. If there was magazines like Guitar Player back then they would've had Beethoven, Mozart, Back, Chopin and a few others adorning them for decades the same way as Hendrix Santana, Page, Clapton, and a few others are still on the covers well into their senior years. Enjoy them while you can folks. It's the end of an era.

@mrlarvux
@mrlarvux 7 жыл бұрын
Joe O'Quinn Well, he had no respect for the original by adding extra strumming, and many unnecessary parts. This was only to show off. And honestly, it isn't a big achivement to complexify wish you were here, an acoustic guitar song, and gilmour would have been able to if it actually sounded any better than the simple version we have today. He also played without any feeling at all. This is the perfect example of how not to make a cover, as a song isn't made great just because it's complex to play.

Clearly, Roger wished that Gilmour was there to sing the song he wrote just to his voice. He can't play and sing as good as David, but I felt the feeling. Oh, I did. Roger, your brain is awesome!

Dayvid Mendes Roger sings better than David and David plays far better guitar than waters. I only wished they didn't part ways.

s v venu and Davyd MendesNo way does Roger sing better than David. Nothing like. Roger has no range at all. He more or less speaks and does not sing.

Malc Holden , I'll assume you would have heard complete songs of Animals,TDSOM & The wall where Rogers is in control for most part and then carefully listen to the song learning to fly by gilmour, the vocals abruptly end before gilmour's awesome solo.at that moment you will realize the importance of Roger waters for Pink Floyd.

s v venu Roger was massively important to Pink Floyd. Up until and including the Final Cut he wrote more or less all the lyrics and I’m sure contributed massively to the music. My point was simply David has a better voice with more range. That said Roger is brilliant at what he does but IMHO he murdered this effort.

David and Roger complete each other, for that they should have overlooked everything just to preserve their perfection as together as one... Love both of them always ❤️❤️❤️❤️

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.
