Oh my gosh! This totally happened to me over 5 years ago! It completely shut down my custom hand made Bow tie shop! I had made over 2500 sales with 100% perfect 5 star reviews!!! I broke my spirit as an artist and my life has never been the same since. I have tried since then to open a few Etsy shops, but I’m never willing to go all in because I know that I can get shut down in a second! The sellers are treated like trash and I just cannot ever feel the same about Etsy like when I was all in. My sense of pride and joy creating an amazing product and loving getting up to a day of making bow tie orders has left me empty and sad. Oh and NO ONE ever got back to me ever! Not even a bot. So now over 5 years later as far as I know Charm City Outfitters is still banned and shut down. Such a horrible way to treat the people who made Etsy what it is today.

I had a store for few months and had few sales. I was selling handmade jewelry. All of a sudden I receive a mail in the morning that my store violated some rules and now it’s shut down and ALL my money was refunded to clients even some were on the way to them. Which is crazy. I paid so much for ads and made money for Etsy and I feel like I have absolutely no voice and I’m not treated like a human being without any explanations and reasons why my store was shut down.

Yes happened to me too. They refunded everybody, even the articles that had been send out or received already, this costed me 5000 Eur.

Etsy is begging to be regulated! We all need to be contacting MOCs and sending the link to this video. Regulations and class action lawsuits are the only thing Etsy and the CEO will hear and listen to.

Class action lawsuit needs to be started. Acct shut down, no email sent, no explanation or reason given. No copywrite infringement or violating any rules at all. Ghosted from etsy. Tell me why it was suspended and I will fix whatever is wrong

I think a class action lawsuit would be great! Every single store that has been charged for listings that Etsy deleted should be part of it. I was forced yo pay for listings I created that Etsy deactivated within hours of creating them! They were original designs, and I wasn’t breaking any rules, and Etsy can’t tell me I didn’t have the correct bank information because they definitely deducted it from my bank account. How much money did they make off of doing that and to how many people? Hundreds of thousands in deactivated listing fees? Millions? Every store who had their funds withheld by Etsy should be a part of that lawsuit. Every store that has been established and successful for years, either getting suspended or getting their listings deactivated, especially during the holidays, they should definitely be compensated for that damage! These are the reasons people no longer trust Etsy. Considering they have no customer service to speak of, it stands to reason that a lawsuit is the only way to reach them at this point.

Believing that Etsy cares is delusional. It doesn’t matter how much a seller makes. Some Chinese company probably bought them or they are getting a huge kickback to get rid of sellers and become another SHEIN or Temu since those companies have a bad reputation. They want the Etsy name and clearly Etsy has given it to them. Otherwise Etsy would message their sellers letting them know they understand there’s a problem and they are working on it. They are discouraging Americans from opening more shops with all their new rules and pushing out existing ones. To make room for the Chinese sellers.

Eh, no. Not quite. But since becoming a publicly traded company, Etsy's number one concern now is stock price and shareholder happiness. Etsy is no longer a marketplace and platform for sellers to connect with buyers. Now, it's entirely a profit-driven enterprise that just happens to use independent sellers as a medium for profit generation. Clearly, "Keep Etsy Human" does not apply so support. Why adequately train and pay for human beings when you can just farm it out to a series of AI chat bots who may or may not eventually get your concern to a person via email? It's truly a nightmare.

Yes! We need LIVE SUPPORT for sellers. Etsy won't even let us CHAT with anyone most of the time. And when you send a message, you often get no response. EVER. Why doesn't Etsy respect the Sellers who are the reason for Etsy's success???

I am 100% behind this. Please Etsy listen to what your sellers are saying and to what they want and need. With no sellers you have no business. I have not had a problem with anything myself, I sell my own design crochet patterns and finished items. I would like to be able to sell appropriate crochet merch (POD mugs and totes to be specific), BUT I have not and will not, simply because I am too scared to. I am scared of having my shop shut for no reason (and I mean no reason as I don't go anywhere near the IP of others and so on, and I adhere to all of Etsy's rules). Bots make too many mistakes, and THAT is what I am afraid of, loosing all by hard work, many many 1000s of hours, months and years of work. All gone because a bot was programmed wrongly, or was simply making avoidable mistakes. Thank you for reading this, Amanda

I opened up a new shop on 4/4 and paid the $15 to open it. I didn’t even have a chance to upload any products, because by 4/6 my shop was suspended. I sent the appeal and got a response from Etsy saying they reviewed my appeal and came to the determination that they are unable to reconsider. Now I’m out a shop and $15! There literally no products listed, I was going to work on my shop over the weekend. I just opened this shop because they permanently suspended another account that I had opened for a whole month, no sales on that shop yet.

I had my shop suspended for a technical issue on their end, nothing I had control over or could do anything about. Two phone calls in advance to stop the suspension from happening which didn't help. Another call and multiple emails after the suspension to 'fix' the problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place and three days lost sales. The following year I had the exact same scenario happening again and it took multiple calls/emails over 4 weeks and A LOT of insistence on my end to avoid another suspension. I have never dealt with a company with such bad/inept service, if they handed out awards for worst customer service, Etsy should win that.

I absolutely do! But if the same were to happen this year, I doubt that would be the case. Their customer service has degraded so badly over the last two years and they were terrible even then. But it’s sad that sellers in 2024 can look at an unacceptable situation and consider the still unreasonable timescale outcome as “lucky”. 😔

I was suspended Monday afternoon without warning and as far as I know unwarranted. I filed their lame "appeal" and got an AI auto response 24 hours later that my suspension would not be reversed. Do you have any tips for me on how to get through? Unfortunately my Etsy shop provided 90% of my income. My website is not cutting it. I'm working to create shops on social media but I need help.

Agreed. Very Helpful. My sister's shop was shut down. She is a creative artist and draws positive coloring pages and activity books for kids and adults. Hers is handmade. But I see hundreds of copyright /disney items selling Up on etsy everyday still.😢

CNN supports China and would never go after them. You should already know that. Hollywood, too. Many of our USA movie studios are owned by them now. They regulate the message and curate Chinese censorship in the USA as the new owners. Look it up. Many famous actors, athletes and entertainers take a knee or get banned from working in the +1 billion population market. They also produce our medicine and medical supplies and have bought up major food production across America. We have been sold and abandoned... and Etsy is just another sell out- but at least they're rich now. And their wealth comes from the backs of those American crafters that made Etsy popular and viable. They will ignore us all and do what they and their new masters want. You're more likely to make more of a difference with a channel like this one compared to CNN anyway. These guys are pro's.

I 100% agree with everything you said! I also think we as sellers should have the option to block people from messaging us begging for free product and scamming! We should be able to block people from buying from our stores as well. eBay gives sellers both of those options but Etsy doesn’t! All you can do is mark a message as spam and they keep creating new accounts to continue to contact us! The customer support button for those of us who are star sellers is also a joke! Why have it if the answer from “support” is always that they can’t do anything about it?!

I had a item removed a couple weeks ago that had been on the site since 2010 when I first started on Etsy. I did the online chat that sent me to someone that was to email me. The email was the same template that shows the "handmade terms" that is very vague on why my item was removed. So I then had them do a callback and got someone on the phone. That person couldn't help and sent me to someone that could and was to email me answers.. Interestingly enough, I never received anything the second time and yes I checked my spam / junk email folder so don't use that for excuse. They threaten to remove my shop IF I have other items that violate this "handmade seller terms" ALL my items "in my view" do not violate the terms they sent to me including the one removed. Etsy wants me to save money by getting a discount for bringing my shoppers to the platform.. why would I want to do all that work if you're threatening to remove my account for a terms violation that they cannot explain to me was in violation.

Well, To my surprise I checked my email and yesterday they did send me an email stating they did this by mistake and have reinstated my listing. Took several days but they did do what they said they was going to do.. Doesn't mean I trust the system any more or less though.. I do sell on a few other platforms so it wouldn't end my livelihood but would hurt nonetheless.

Hey Josh… it’s a well known fact that bots are incapable of making sound business decisions. Even if you don’t care about the havoc they’ve caused the sellers on your platform, you might want to consider how giving a bot free rein to cut into Etsy’s own profits might be affecting that $15.4M a year, in stock options, you get. Shares of Etsy have fallen 40% this year, while the S&P is up 25%! Ouch, that’s gotta hurt. It almost sounds as if when your marketplace doubles in size, replacing 11% of your human staff who were capable of critical thinking and problem solving, with a halfwit bot that’s capable of nothing, was an epically bad idea.

Totally agree! It’s something strange going on and it’s very upsetting. Etsy is the best marketplace but they have THE WORST customer service. No seller support at all. My pretty successful shop was shut down right before Christmas. My husband lost his job. This shop was the only source of income for our 7 people family (we have 5 little kids). I appealed 3 times, but they didn’t want to listen anything like robots. Maybe they are. It’s just unimaginable how unforgiving people can be. Even the judge in the court gives the second chance. I reached out the customer service to ask with helping me to restore the listing the deactivated by mistake. It’s so upsetting. I tried to open the new shop recently, but they deactivated it immediately because it’s connecting with my suspended shop.

sometimes it really is for no reason (or no logical reason), sometimes there is a reason, the problem is the seller's don't know and Etsy has stopped even vaguely pointing them in the right direction :(

I was "currently suspended" a week ago. No email , no explanation...just a banner telling me that I am currently suspended. I sent in an appeal like they asked ( and told not to contact anyone because it won't help) and crickets since. Been on Etsy for 10 years. Like seriously , what is going on? So frustrating!

Add me to the list of confused and pissed off sellers. I've been a seller on Etsy since 2008 with a flawless record selling handmade goods. I opened a new shop 2 weeks ago with the intent to start selling POD items. That shop was immediately suspended. I filed an appeal and within an hour got the response, "your account does not qualify for reinstatement." Two weeks later, my main shop from 2008 was suspended. I filed an appeal and within minutes, I got the same response. After 16 years of selling on Etsy with a spotless record, and while in full compliance with all of Etsy's rules and policies, I was shown the door without so much as a reason why. My best guess is that they are targeting new POD shops.

I support this 100%, happened to me too. Etsy is forcing sellers to create fake shops out of desperation, because the lifelyhood was gone with no reason, no warning, no explanation. Just incredible way of handling things. The internet full with these stories...

I'm a single mom from South Africa. I've had an Etsy shop and worked very hard with my digital products (Bell's Upcycling World). I've had 53 sales so far (before they closed my shop), which I didn't get one cent for. Just because I have put the ads on and also renewals, cost a lot of money. Why not just take money from products that do sell? So for now my shop is closed, because I owe them money and cannot afford to pay it. And I really loved to have my Etsy shop.

I JUST opened an Etsy account and withing 48 hours+, my account was suspended and the email notification stated no specific reason why. Then when I go through the process of an appeal, the form asks: "How will your business practices change if you regain account access"? I can't correct whatever is wrong unless you tell us. I can't speak with anyone via phone or live chat. These are unfair business practices.

Same thing happened to me on 20 Feb 2024 they closed me within 30 minutes I had two sales in that time they cancelled one and let the other process it - I never received an email or message that my shop was suspended I found out when trying to make another listing - I have emailed even legal department - I have yet to receive any information as to why the shop was closed - I even made a video on it but I’m a nobody so it got nowhere but honestly why would we want them making billions of dollars? Irritate me is putting it nicely- I am working on opening a Shopify store and they have real humans on chat!

Planning to use Etsy but now all new users like me are probably going Amazon or other platforms. No one is willing to pay for a store not know if you going to make a sale. We are all starting out but you just make things hard for everybody Etsy. Congratulations on that.

When a company goes public, their only concern is pleasing the share holders. This isn't a private company. It's public. Historically companies change for the worse when they go public because their focus shifts away from what made the product/company a success in the first place. Etsy only cares about the buyers and the share holders. Sellers are at the mercy of the system. This is why while I'm building my Etsy store, I'm also building a Shopify store. I'm in the early stages but I'm going to use Etsy as a tool to learn who my demographic is and what they want and then apply that to a separate website and then shift all my focus on the Shopify store by throwing all my ad budget into it and focus less on Etsy. Too dangerous to bank on Etsy alone. Sorry to those who've been on Etsy for a long time. This sucks for them.

You would think that they would understand that they are about to destroy their relationship with crafters in the West, lose business and crash their stock. But then again, look how dumb Bud Light, Target and Planet Fitness are, too. This just opens the door for someone to create the next "Etsy" except done right. Hopefully soon, very soon.

Thank you so much for this video! I didn't have 120,000 sales, just about 3,500 but it took me 5 years to reach that. As you said incredible q-ty of 5 stars review and hundreds of repeated buyers and I've lost everything in a minute in February 2022, my store was blocked because I'm Russian. As an Etsy seller, I would appreciate a live body ti speak to if something is wrong. I sell legit OG handmade and that's why I came to Etsy years ago. Better support to handmade would be most important. Secondly, get the non legit copyright infringed listings out! Stop adding new markets until you secure those of us are kept safe in your platform. I love Etsy, but please support the sellers better.

Not only is he losing business due to shutting stores down randomly, there are people leaving the platform because they are scared of getting shut down unexpectedly. AND he's losing NEW stores because people are afraid to open them. I was going to open a shop this month and now I'm not going to. I'll probably stick with eBay and try out FBA. Thanks Josh!

I wish I could get off Etsy, but they have the platform that brings buyers. I got a copyright infringement notice because I used the term "pawrent" in my description, which is apparently copyrighted. This word is used heavily within the pet community, but you can't even use it in your description. No ability to talk to anyone or appeal it.

Etsy told us they were "investing" in live support when they increased their fees a few years ago. Little did we know they were investing the increase to advertise in the Super Bowl. At what point do all of our concerns become a legal issue? This is rediculous and super unprofessional. Seems to be the Etsy way of doing business.

Hi, just go ahead and open it before they start charging Aussie shops $15 to open. This video won't make any difference whatsoever to Etsy and if it does it will take ages to implement all the necessary changes. Just go for it and remember to abide by the sellers handbook, check EVERYTHING for trademarks and don't forget to pay your fees.

Etsy asks us to have high quality customer service but does not live by their demands of sellers and sellers are their main customer!!! The buyer is sort of their customer…they are our customers and we do business in their store yet the want to beat the seller like some beast of burden. To have no one to reach out to at Etsy is beyond frustrating and fair.

I signed up for my first Etsy store this October - sold 5 custom signs. My own designs... My own printer. My own sweat equity! BAM! Shut down... TO this day they are still holding onto my cash. Store is in purgatory and I still have the " you account suspension is under review" My question? How long does an account stay under review... Thank goodness I built my 7 figure brand on Shopify and Amazon... I would never consider opening a store ever on Etsy. Not to mention if you ever were to sell your brand - ETSY prohibits this - hence limits any EXIT... So why build IMO - Etsy could be great - but a 100% PASS for me.

They see the Chinese websites doing very well, so they added China and it’s only going to get worse. I know several people, who make decent money, who just go to those cheap Chinese websites now, because they may as well cut out the middle man and save themselves some money. I won’t shop on Etsy anymore, because it’s starting to look like one of those websites, with every search I do. My daughter tried to find a watch band, she went to Etsy first, and everyone she saw was drop shipped, she went to Amazon and bought it, it was cheaper, and the shipping was faster. With all of the AI stuff and the bad designs, because gurus are telling people to basically steal bestselling designs and slap them on a T-shirt, mug, or whatever other completely oversaturated product they can think of, and the dropshipped stuff, who wants to sift through all of that, to get to the handmade stuff? Not me.

Follow up... I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they messaged Etsy for me and I received a reply today saying that I had a new message. Lo and behold... it was an error and my account has been restored after 2+ weeks... they state it was 2 weeks but it has been well over that..

The chat responses seem to be a copy and paste from a script. You can never get a response specific to your question. I was so frustrated when I encountered a scammer on my first day on Etsy. I'm still hesitant to go all in on the platform.

Once I heard about that huge shop getting shut down, I tried to double check this for myself. I have another old old shop that I can’t log into, and Etsy support won’t even help me log into it JUST to pay my bill if there is one. They claimed because I can’t remember the bank account or “draft listings” that they have no other way of verifying I own the account! How would I know either of those things if I haven’t logged into it for five or ten years?? It’s insane.

Trust me, do not try and log in to your old account! Best to leave it. If you manage to get in and there is an outstanding balance you will lose your entire Etsy account and all shops! If it's been that long and nothing has happened just let sleeping dogs lie.

When they suspend your shop without reason and warning they mail all your customers triggering them to file cases and reimbursing everyone even those who aready got their items ot tge items have been send out. I lost many thousands of Eur, feeling helpless and just depressed. This cannot be legal...

Part of the problem are KZfaqrs that keep pushing the idea that Etsy is a handmade marketplace, helping the CEO to gaslight the public. People who questioned what kind of products were sold by Etsy were ignored. Too bad the so called "gurus" are the last ones to know what's going on.

I'm an eBay seller. I started on Etsy. Sadly I can make more in a week on eBay than I was making in a year on Etsy. Sadly though, the eBay sold prices are super low in comparison. The Ebay customer service for sellers is amazing though. An agent calls you. If you get a strike, they email you and you wait for their call. I was thinking of starting Etsy again. Now I'm not so sure. It's hard to know what's best.

The digital space is overrun by copycats. I would guess there are now hundreds of copycats in my profitable and competitive niche. Etsy does absolutely nothing except require you go through an automated process of claiming your listings and then reporting the shop that is infringing on your copyright. The infringing shop owner then has the opportunity to claim that you are infringing on THEIR copyright and they take BOTH shops down for ten days. If I, or my lawyer, were allowed to speak to a real person it would be very clear who the copycat is! My products take an extreme amount of time to complete and someone in another country can come along and purchase them and then turn around and sell them on the same platform. This should NOT be allowed to happen!

That happened to me after 6 weeks of hard work, I can’t even imagine being on there for years and building my brand, having to depend on it for a living 😢. FINALLY GETTING MY CASE RESOLVED AFTER 5 LONG MONTHS! Everyone: Keep requesting callback from etsy support and INSIST to talk to the manager, no matter what the VA says... they will eventually say wait on line and get a manager for you that can resolve your case more directly! I hate that this is what its come to, bc in comparison other marketplaces like Ebay and Amazon have wayyy better support for customers and sellers... Sorry for those affected, karma will get the selfish ones....

I would also love to see a better navigation of the etsy website. A clear distinction between SUPPLY, POD and HANDMADE sellers. Handmade meaning that sellers actually create and ship products themselves. When i (being a seller myself) want to purchase something on the platform, i find it incredibly hard to find what i am looking for/ what type of business i want to support. Speaking of the problems with all the sellers of illegal trademarked items: maybe a possibility could be to request that every shop owner that sells trademarked items should have a space where he can upload a license if he has one. The license could then be visible for etsy as well as for the buyers. If the shop has no license, it can be shut down. Also, in order to finance the increased costs to hire more and better qualified customer support, i would increase the cost to open an etsy shop from 15 to at least 50 dollars.

That is what I said…I won’t even shop on there now, because you have to sift through so much AI and drop shipped stuff now. A lot of the AI stuff is just garbage, they don’t add a human touch, at all, they just take it straight from the midjourney or one of those and slap it on Etsy. How is that handmade? Please tell me how going to chat gpt to have it make a prompt, then, copy and paste the prompt into midjourney, and take the midjourney image and put it on Etsy. All they did was tell ChatGPT to generate a prompt, then copy and paste it into another website…that’s it. Oh, maybe, they upscale it…so that is handmade???? There are people teaching others how to do this very same thing, here on YT, invade Etsy with stuff that is in no way handmade. I use AI, but, if I use it, it is a small element in my total design. I work hard on my designs, and then people just do that, and they call it handmade. It’s disgusting. The thing is, Etsy opened up to China because they want to be the next Amazon, they don’t care about the handmade, anymore. Even Amazon at least has a handmade section, and various other types of sections that they allow you to join, Etsy is just straight lying. My daughter tried to find a watch band, she went to Etsy and found several….everyone of them was dropshipped, she just went to Amazon, ordered the same exact band, for a lower price and quicker shipping. We wont shop there if we have to sift through all of that. We may as well just go straight to Amazon.

My store was closed down without any notice, no warnings. Tried to get in touch with them for 2 months, then I heard it happened because of an error. They didnt even open my store again.. can u imagine? and wouldnt reply me.. i just gave up but i just dont get it how they destroy for people ☹️

I don’t have an Etsy shop yet, but I’m gearing up to open one and I doubt my decision to use Etsy more and more as the day to open gets closer. I didn’t know until recently that Etsy didn’t have live customer support. A lack of human to human customer support has turned me away from countless businesses over the years, especially those I’ll be actively involved in long term like Etsy. I’ve reached a point where I’ll never enter business with a company that doesn’t have humans in customer service because it never fails to come back to bite me when something goes wrong and I need help.

I don’t think they want anymore sellers I know of 10 people that have tried to set up stores in the last few weeks and each one including myself got banned before the set up process was even complete. I am unsure how you can violate terms of service when you can’t even open a shop and have not even sold anything.😢

I’d happily pay 10$ per month for a suspension protection program to get at least a warning and 7 days to fix the mistake. Which they should offer for free anyway. After being a seller for 2 years with over 1000 sales and working my ass off to the point where I left my full time job for this and now being suspended with no explanation at all and Etsy not paying my last payment, 5 emails not responded, an appeal that asks me to explain how I’ll mitigate my mistake and I don’t even know what my mistake is…. Josh and Etsy you are doomed to fail with the way you treat your sellers. Your support is atrocious.

I moved to a new country and Etsy's platform is useless when trying to change from a Canadian to a UK bank account. I had to close my 1st shop, and I'm still owed $90 of revenue from sales in that shop. I was forced to open a new shop and lost all my reviews and sales stats. Take notice Etsy, my Shopify store had no issues. Your lack of support Etsy has pushed me to try different platforms. I needed to talk to a human not get the same AI generated form email multiple times over several months. I want my $90 too Etsy.

Etsy sucks, theres alternatives ppl are moving because etsy is downward spiraling for a while now. Theyve been holding $2k of my money since january with NO REASON GIVEN after so many times asking via email or call request from an overseas VA that doesnt help, is that fair? Plus their customer service is unhelpful and keeps saying a "higher dept" is in charge and you can even talk to this "higher dept" ... I love that this thread is happening because its SO REAL Its DELUSIONAL or selfish that people still like etsy, maybe because theyre shop isnt affected so its biased or ignorant... go educate yourselves...
