How do 'intellectuals' fool themselves into thinking an ideology with no real means of measurement from person to person, acting on assumptions of who is and isn't disadvantaged and assumptions of what causes it, with no hard system of categorising who gets what, why they deserve it over another, and what 'disadvantage' trumps another...it's tiring even putting it into words, it goes on forever in a circular logic without any solid foundation, it's mindboggling how they can be touted as the torch bearers of reason and believe one of the most unreasonable outlooks on life, especially equality/equity of outcome, an inherently discriminatory and abhorrent in practice goal to have, heirarchy is inherent, all animals have it and it's unavoidable, the very moment two people do a task and one is better at it, poof, hierarchy, we will never be equal, there's a million ways we can each be better than eachother at various things in life, they're acting on the assumption any and all discrepancy is based on race and gender discrimination first and foremost, then income of family, sexuality and nationality. Remember "i think therefore i am", well for intersectionalists it's "i'm not white male therefore i suffer" they can be middle class or wealthy, beautiful and treated well by all they encounter and still believe this.

The answer to your question.., paraphrased, how do intellectualls justify this nonsense? Simple answer Post Modernism, a derivative of Neo Marxism, specifically the Frankfurt School. They don't believe in facts and transplanted Marxist theory (economic) directly to Culture. Since Marxism profoundly failed, you'd think they would be careful, but No.
@Rhygenix
@Rhygenix 5 жыл бұрын
Marxism, was supposed to be a modernist, scientific, materialistic explanation of the world. When the soviet union inevitably failed, and surmounting evidence was clearly brought before the intellectuals that Marxism was wrong, they had a crisis of faith. They had to choose to accept reason, logic and empirical evidence, and reject Marxism (Like Hayek), or to reject reason, logic and empirical evidence. The ones who rejected reason, is what Stephen Hicks calls the "Kierkegaardian" Postmodernists. Kierkegaard and Kant took similar approaches with Christianity when, chrisitianity's natural explanations of the world were proved to be the opposite (IE. Heliocentrism). Kant said "I had to reject reason, to make room for faith". Kierkegaard said "Faith requires the crucifixion of reason". So these postmodernists took this leap of faith. There were others, who believed it was culture that made socialism fail, they believe that Marxism is still scientific, and are yet comfortable enough with the contradicting evidence. These ones outwardly use relativism to disarm you, and when you are in doubt of the validity of western civilization, they will start spouting their beliefs as if they are objectively true. Stephens Hicks calls these the Machiavellian Postmodernists. Then there are the Nihilistic Postmodernists. They know Marxism was wrong, communism is impossible, and socialism always fails, but capitalism should be destroyed anyway.

I am from India and did my college education in the US. Before leaving for America, I had a high opinion of the education system (many of the facets of the US higher education system is indeed wonderful and should be celebrated), but after getting there I realized I wanted to go to college in 90's America not then (2006-20111), it was still pretty chill and relaxed though. The first shoots of this craziness started probably in 2009, right after obama. I took a journalism class and the teacher randomly got us to take a are you gay quiz, ostensibly to empathize with those who are. One of the questions on the test was how do you know you are not gay, and it continued to build on this point. Trying to hammer you into submission saying that yes you are gay. When the teacher asked me to read my answer aloud due to me being a foreigner, thus might bring in a different perspective, I started with that specific question - How do I know I am not gay, I told them simply because no one taught me to be straight. I just realized sometime in my early teens that the girls I saw previously looked very different now and they had something which I wanted. Now it has gone to extreme levels, I can see.

I know, well I was a young and more malleable person back then. Why do you think they start in school. Going by what I read and see online, you guys have gone off the deep end. I still remember my college memories there, drinking beer on monday nights because it was no class tuesday, you could crack jokes in class. The professors were (mostly) chilled out, some ex-hippies, who would invite us over for bbq on the weekend with free beer and their wives would pack us massive lunchboxes of leftovers. Edgy beer pong sessions, you would actually want to invite a girl over to your room on the weekend instead of now where you will be in jail if you do so. Actually, non western countries are much more fun now, we have problems but we still have a soild main stream culture, something which you guys have almost lost.

Arjun, It started much earlier, but was 'hidden' from view because it wasnt accepted. However in 90's there was a collective move of people from the Al Gore Administration into the Primary School system. and they have worked since then to train the future adults and professors we have today. TBH its why things are the way they are in our society.

This has probably been said many times but, I appreciate something more when I earn it, rather than have it given to me. I worked my butt off to get my degree at 40, it was worth all the lost sleep, stress and trying to get through finals with the flu, than to have someone hold my hand along the way. There were so many times I wanted to quit, but I held on to the end. I also think some high school students aren't ready for college right out of high school, they need to get out into the world, experience failure and other travails of life first before heading into the shark-infested waters of college. Just saying.

I agree. I did my degree in my 30s whilst working full time with a family. At 18 I certainly wasn't ready for it. Equally, the fact I could do it while working full time. Makes me think that if students and lecturers actually did a *full* day and years work, they could have those degrees in 18 month to 2 years - after all I was doing it at night after work and in my lunchtimes and still did it in 4 years.

Ughhh "equity".I genuinely get annoyed by the word. Whenever you hear it you know they are giving preferential treatment based on a immutable characteristic to some on the basis they think you can pre-judge people solely on those immutable characteristics. The idea you can look at someones skin color and say "well i can tell everything about you from your skin color and since you are X you are privileged or you are x therefore disadvantaged" is actually prejudice,wrapped up in a rainbow to be aesthetically pleasing. Its the same ethic Harvard is currently being sued for on account of being racist to Asians. I detest this need for educational institutions to indoctrinate.Their role is to educate and impart knowledge,not brain wash.

I keep watching these Evergreen videos in hopes that one day the story will be that evergreen has completely crashed and burned and is shutting down. I think that the brainwashing and Marxist teaching that Evergreen does is harmful for the students who attend, and the nation at large. The fact that they receive taxpayer money to do this makes it even more apparent. I'm sure there are some students that make it through ok, but the ones featured in the protest videos are a mess. It's as if you pay the university to make you LESS able to perform well in the workforce and less equipped to get a job. Their motto should be "Come to Evergreen. We will make you stupider"

I _want_ to be held accountable if I am wrong. I get drowned in 'you're a nazi' claims because I think free speech trumps feelings. Hell, in the past I've had my home and cars shot up and one joint home invaded while I was overseas. I've been pulled off stage by the federal police here because someone allegedly came to shoot me (no idea if it was true - guns are banned in my country). A good majority of jobs these days, outside of specialized fields, don't even require a degree. The most important thing you can get from college is connections and the ability to discuss topics, including ones someone might disagree with. Giving into the "If you think differently, you don't belong" mentality defeats the purpose of such institutions.

In a larger sense the far left wants to shut down all the campuses in this country. So, all the people that are in cheerleader mode. Because of the idea of far left politics being defeated by capitalistic trends, that could certainly lead to the shut down Evergreen Collage. You are feeding in to the agenda of the far left. Their long term goal is to shut down every campus in this country. Why? You ask, would someone want to destroy the American education system? To make way for communism. For instance, every country in the world, that has ever been taken over by communism. The first thing that they do is to round up the educated people. In an effort to silence their voices. Why would communists have to worry about educated people? If their are no educated people. So watch what you ask for. The problem with keeping the winners down is when do you stop hobbling the winners? When does a winner become not a winner but like everyone else? Do we keep beating on the former winners until they become losers? When do we end Affirmative Action for example? Or what happens when the losers become winners? Do we scale them back or keep propping them up at the expense of others? Men and women for example...according to a number of studies men have serious issues when you make comparisons between the genders...yet we still pound on men, especially white men. We are now at a place where you can point your finger at a man and he will lose his livelihood and reputation. Finally, who do we put in charge of deciding who gets beat on? The handbook promises multiple (diverse) methodologies (courses) that lead to the same (equitable) good grades (excellence) requiring only selection (planning) by any (inclusive) inept (disadvantaged) student with faculty (team). The handbook advises the student who can't meet the course requirements, to switch courses to something suggested by the faculty they can get good grades in. That seems like a bait and switch, bait them with the promise of good grades in disciplines of their choice, then tell them to switch subjects to get those grades. It would be interesting to know how many students switch subjects and to what subjects and if those subjects have standardized grading or lead anywhere.

'Especially collaborative' = fully indoctrinated into a identity group philosophy, viewing yourself as part of a collective and thus in collaboration with all your fellow identity kamaraden. As for the argument about breadth of perspective.... *cue maniacal laughter* sure, except for having ANY familiarity at all with the viewpoints that might actually challenge your orthodoxy i.e. the only perspectives worth a damn to ensure your opinions are well founded in the first place.

Paused at the 13:15 mark to shake my head at the word salad and have that action rearrange the meaning into something relateable......and what instantly came to mind was that these educators, and by extension the state are redefing what is and how community mindedness is expressed according to a deconstructionist world view. The cultural marxists have successfully dismantled the traditional meaning of The Family and by undermining and diminishing the significance of a married mother and father complementing each other and committed to raising their offspring are now usurping the role. Before all this, communities (for the most part) evolved around the church which was the glue that allowed its members and supporters to express their humanity and humanitarian goodwill to the needy with focus primarily on the immediate community (in theory). The ideal was Jesus and those most earnest/devout and well meaning strived both individually and collectively) to make the mark (with the belief that goodness and change would evolve through the ripple effect -- fundamentalist extremists aside) but now that this peculiar western cultural norm has been ridiculed, maligned and legislated to the fringe, the statists/communitarians are busy filling the void with creatures of their own design adulating new heroes (eg Marx and popstars) and spreading a replacement doctrine which appears to be the antithesis of the Gospel. I swear I feel like punching the next teacher in my direct hearing who parrots the mantra that "It takes a village to raise a child" . Another lefty euphemism ... Village = The State. The line ... "teachers leave them kids alone"... takes on a totally new meaning in the post modern world.

love the way they see themselves as a successful institution, I do wonder how they are judging their success? Maybe it's judged by how good they "feel" about themselves? It's probably not judged on their academic reputation, the demand for admission spots, their financial success or the success of their fundraising efforts. It would be interesting to find out what criteria, if any they use or whether it's just seen as a marketing ploy which sounds better than trying to be successful.

Good call on the "share a mosaïc" rather than "contribute" or sth. Note also the use of "backgrounds and perspectives" rather than e.g. "origins and worldviews". The idea of "background and perspective" is that you have a different *literal* point of view, i.e. you see things from a certain vantage point, which may be, for example, privileged or oppressed, and this supports the idea that you can't understand other points of view. However, "origin and worldview" would mean that you have indeed a place you *started*, but from which you have the possibility to emancipate, and a worldview is something you create yourself, whereas a perspective is just something that happens to result from where you're positioned. Come to think about it, the whole intersectionality thing seems but a long and sophisticated metaphor about perspective. Which, interestingly enough, is also one of the big explanatory principles of flat-earthers. Just sayin'.

I would advise you to read Carl Jung's typology descriptions. Yes the MBTI was based on it but reading Jung's original is very interesting. He described the character traits of Extroverted feeling. And that extroverted feeling types try to create group harmony, and have other traits like vanity, conformity etc. he also believed most extroverted feeling types were women. I think there are many causes for the Evergreen disaster. BUT you might add this to the list. Extroverted feeling types often find positions in administration. They are talented at public persona. But the inferior function of an extroverted feeling type would be introverted thinking. Which would be the rational thinking introspective type. Or the introverted feeling types which would usually be rational qualitative function of a talented artist or writer. I think administrations expand and become more expensive because extroverted feeling types in administrative jobs hire more unnecessary extroverted feeling types. Then they are in charge of hiring teachers as well. They are not going to hire teachers of great intelligence or skills they will hire teachers who conform to their sense of group belonging. This does not mean the extroverted feeling type is all bad. The trait probably evolved to create dominant mothers who could harmonize small groups meaning children.

Why would equity necessarily need to weigh down people at the top? Isn't it giving more tutoring to people who need , and less to those who need less, rather than an equal amount irrespective of need?

The thing about equity (equality of outcome) is really simple: It will not bring everyone _up_ to the same level, but it will necessarily drag everyone _down_ to the level of the least capable. Not everyone can attain the same outcome at everything. Think back to when you were at school. Think of the people who were in the bottom sets for everything, the ones who left school barely able to read or write. Your outcome will be the same as theirs. They can't be heart surgeons, or physicists, or electrical engineers, so neither can you.
