This is especially true in the video game world. So many great once studios and devs get ruined thanks to corporations buying them up and then forcing them to follow their bidding despite the devs knowing it won’t be profitable/not what the current fans want

Someone made a good point, those under 30 (maybe even a bit older) don’t watch TV, they don’t go to movies. My older teen watches zero TV and goes to maybe 1 movie a year. My 22 year old watches history documentaries and sports, he’s given up on Doctor Who and Star Wars. A number of years ago I decided he should watch some good TV comedies so I introduced him to Psych, Perfect Strangers (yes, the 80s show), Home Improvement and now he’s watching Happy Days with me when he comes over.

Star Wars didn't need to end after the Prequels. It needed to end after the original trilogy. That would keep the franchise forever stuck in amber as this one perfect cinematic moment in time. I mean, can you imagine if 'Casablanca' had spawned a series of sequels with new characters? We would no longer think of it ast he classic that it is!

Yep, the prequels proved that there is no going home. I wish HW and audiences would just let all this IP die already. I would love to see something new and original or at least develop some classic sci-fi / fantasy novels…without updating them for “modern audiences.”

Films and television are team efforts. The average number of crew credits in the top 1,000 films between 1994 and 2013 was 588. On average the top films of the past two decades have each had 3.5 writers, 7 producers, 55 people in the art department, 32 in sound, 55 in camera / electrical and 156 in visual effects.

@@nosadonions3231 After watching the complete disaster of Tenet maybe a committee would have made a better film there and talked Nolan out of some ideas. Even if you look at the first Star Wars in 1977 everyone claim Lucas was the sole genius behind it. Not so. His producing partner Gary Kurtz was a big influence and when he was fired you could see the decline in Return of the Jedi. Then there was all the design and effect team who came up with the look of the ships and the series. That was not Lucas. Finally his wife Marcia Lucas really brought out the film with her editing and got Lucas to cut out the overabundant comedy the film would have had. It is much more of team effort than you think. Check out the documentary Heart of Darkness about the making of Apocalypse Now and how the staff had to reign Coppola in to get the film done.

The problem isn't the corporations. The problem is the fans obsessing about corporate franchises even when the product is inferior. Instead they should be looking for new, original movies and games Imagine in 1977 that no one went to see Star Wars because they were all talking about the latest spin off of The Lone Ranger.

Stan Lee is a not a visionary. He slapped his name on true creatives like Steve Ditko and His Excellency Jack Kirby. I also reject the singular vision paradigm. ANH was good bc George Lucas humbly accepted the criticism of his (atrocious) rough cut and made the necessary changes. I understand the reticence against movie by consensus but do you really want another Rebel Moon? I don’t!

I understand the desire to preserve the quality and integrity of a much beloved franchise from soulless corporations. However, I think if you can look at a film or series and think that a genuine fan would create something great with the brand. Then you shouldn't stop creating stories for it because that proves there's life and potential still there. Criticise the bad, praise the good, and push for genuine fans to be at the helm of projects. That's how we win as fans.

these people like movies well into the crap-zone. Guardians was awful and dull and boring. Ironman 1 was good. And Winter Soldier wad better than expected. And Xmen First Class was worth the watch. Most of the rest of it was garbage. If you didnt give up after Ironman 3 where one of a hundred Ironman suits could open up and ANYONE could be in it - Pepper Potts, an unconscious person, nobody. I dont know what to say. Spiderverse turning everyone into Spiderfolk in a Spiderworld is the opposite of superheroics. Its the opposite of storytelling. It is the opposite of honoring Spiderman.

The problem is that their is a huge portion of the Star Wars fandom that loves Disney Star Wars and any time I try to talk about SW, i get told that I'm wrong because something that used to be true was retconned in episode four of Andor. That's why Lucas' Star Wars is dead.
