Iron Man 2 is probably the least liked of the trilogy, but still gets some undeserved criticism. So here's what people loved about it and everything right with Iron Man 2.

The thing is, it does make a difference, and it’s for the better, imho. Fun fact: The Ex-Wife weapon from Hammertech is a weapon designed to be fired from long ranges so that it can BUILD UP SPEED in order to pierce armored targets with its kinetic energy. If you fire that a point blank range, it won't have enough speed or kinetic energy to arm itself, kinda like how some explosive shells are designed to blow up only when they reach a certain speed. Ironically, in the Marvel comic about the "Battle of Hong Kong", a Ten Rings Battle Tank designed by Hammertech uses the Ex-Wife to shoot Rhodey out of the sky.

I agree with that statement. And the decision to not give her a movie until 10+ years (ish?) later is because Marvel Studios' boss or executive producer (whatever you call him) was a huge sexist at the time and didn't think that most audiences would want a movie being made about a *woman* with superpowers. Luckily, that guy left the studio for some reason and a more...tolerant guy replaced him. I just love that origin story of how we got Captain Marvel in 2019 and how we're going to get Black Widow in May 2021 and Captain Marvel 2 in 2022! ☺️ As you can see, I'm a big feminist and leftist (even though I'm a guy. You missed a continuity nod, but it's a pretty deep cut. The new reactor Tony invents (with a huge pipe wrench and bicep power) is based on the research and schematics left by Howard Stark hidden in the map/design model thing. That research was based on Howard Stark's study of the Tesseract. (We see the Tesseract sketch in Howard's journal) Now, the Tesseract is actually a vessel for the space stone, but that vessel came from Asgard. So either the cube-container bit is Asgardian Tech, or they've just had plenty of time to study and utilize the tesseract and space stone within. Either way, the new element Tony creates is compatible with Asgard tech... so when Thor tries to zap him in Avengers, the suit is able to absorb the power. It also means that Iron Man is potentially powered by an Infinity Stone (or rather, two Starks combined efforts to recreate the power of an Infinity Stone.)

Thors hammer in the MCU was made in Nidavellir, so its not Asgardian tech.. Also Iron man receives power whenever the suit comes into contact with electricity.. Thor is the god of lightning and the hammer only helps him channel his power.. When Thor attacks Stark in The Avengers its a huge, seriously i mean HUGE power boost for tony because it was Thors Lightning I believe comes from the Odin Force.. A note for EGA Endgame: "My greatest creation is you."- A father opening up without saying it in person. "I love you 3000." A father telling his child how much he loves them, knowing that what may be the final journey. Tony was raised by an emotionally distant father. Something that stuck with him until he saw the recording from his dad. Years later, he left behind his mantle after losing a battle that cost universe half of all life, his young protégé and son figure. Five years later, he kept that with to be a kind father and husband, before remembering that Morgan wasn't the kid who needed him. He died to give his daughter a better universe, the polar opposite of what Thanos did. A hero sacrifices himself for greater good.

11:11 This has been said a couple of times before, but there is actually continuity with the "Ex-Wife" being a dud. Earlier in the film when Hammer shows of the weapons, he says that it's a "bunker buster" and a "kinetic" weapon. This means that it is an immensely powerful projectile and because of that, it has to travel a minimum distance before being armed so the one firing remains safe. Meanwhile Rhodey tries to fire it at point blank range where it not only doesn't travel the arming distance, it would most likely kill all three if it did work.

I just realised, Tony’s first two villains were technically (in Obie’s case) ghosts of his Father’s past. But after the Avengers a lot of the villains he and the Avengers face were directly caused by him whether intentional or not. He abandoned Killian on the roof when he was still just Tony Stark the weapons dealer, which led to the creation of the Extremis Program and the Mandarin. He unintentionally bullied Mysterio by calling his machine BARF (although Mysterio was the one to twist the events to his warped likings) he took over the Clean Up after Loki’s invasion which took away an important source of Income for Toomes, he created Ultron who immediately turned on humanity. Zemo thought Stark could keep the Sokovians safe which is what led to Zemo turning evil. Whilst Tony never meant to create villains it seems that’s all he was capable of. With every good deed he did he unintentionally set someone on the dark path. Almost all the human/man made threats in the MCU can be traced to the Stark family.

Rhodey also just wanted to look cool and be "a badass." So wanting to impress Tony makes sense for the character to try and use an impressive-sounding/looking weapon especially after seeing the lasers end the drone fight in a split second. It makes sense in the writing and for a clever joke. One of the little things I love about Justin Theroux's script.

It's interesting how Ivan's story in this movie parallels Tony's initial creation of the Iron Man suit in the first movie. Like Tony, he is essentially held captive and forced to make weapons for his captors, only to pull a fast one on them and make a weapon that he uses against them.

It's a great addition to the Iron Man trilogy, exciting and entertaining at the time. Looking back it was a great experience seeing Iron Man back in action again. I think people see it as a "bad movie" because they started to compare it to other MCU movies as the cinematic universe expands. Most of the movies are better than Iron Man 2. Hence, why this seems "bad".

Thor 1 & 2 were bad movies. They are the bottom of the mcu barrel. Sorry to disagree with you on this but I haven’t met anyone who can change my mind. You’re welcome to try if that’s your thing. I was just as excited for them when they came out, I wasn’t doing backflips for them but I was there on opening weekend. Walked away disappointed both times. Part 2 was so bad I couldn’t even remember what the bad guys were while walking out of the theater. I even watched them once they got a home release but felt nothing but boredom during the movies and regret immediately after. They were just weak and shallow. I know some people liked them but I just can’t figure out why.

Also, a Black Widow movie would be a HUGE risk. Knowing Black Widow's history, it's going to set off a LOT of triggers, and also, it's going to annoy a lot of people. Giving her an origin movie will expose the fact that she's Russia's answer to Steve Rogers, which doesn't work in the MCU because they're all already dead(Thanks, Zemo), though they've already hinted at them through Dottie Underwood, will take ALL mystery out of her character, and turn her from a mysterious seemingly free-agent with a moral compass that points only to what serves her at the moment it serves her(Though with a sense of altruism involved) with a lot more strength, skill, and endurance than anyone else out there, to just another ordinary person turned extraordinary and superhuman by the force of science and circumstance. Black Widow is a woman of mystery. Keeping her from having her own movie? Keeps her that way. An Origins movie for Widow would remove that mystery entirely, and anything more would be nothing more than the Bourne Widow. Which, don't get me wrong, that would be fun, but at the same time, it would be very tricky to make a movie where to-the-audience powerless Widow runs from powerless others in a high risk situation when she's best buddies with(and able to talk into working for her whenever she sees fit) people who can literally throw tanks across a desert.

did you also notice when he built the molecule it looked astoundingly similar to a virus? Or how the "stark expo" actually took place at the New York Hall of Science, located in "Corona Park"? Blew my mind when I first found that out.

2:50 Another win you missed out on: Sega sponsoring the Stark Expo. Guessing Tony Stark likes Sonic games. (This is also kind of funny in hindsight, seeing as how Sega published/publishes Marvel games.)

Everything except the final act. That final battle was underwhelming compared to the original.

@@RandomPersonR I'd like to know how Whiplash knows Tony is going to be there when his own people don't. Also, his electro-whips somehow follow ghost rules. Like, they can go through anything, except the floor. If someone could clear up those two details, I'd like the racetrack scene much more.

9:15 is actually funnier when you realize that that's not just Justin Hammer's weird awkward stage dance, but it's actually something Sam Rockwell does to warm himself up as an actor. The director saw him do it and said "Hey, we want you to do that, because it's just cocky enough to fit the character."

During the fight scene at 7:00 when Tony and James are fighting in the suits - going blow for blow and barely moving - becoming essentially a game of rockem sockem robots, Robot Rock by Daft Punk fittingly is playing and that makes me happy.

Iron Man 2 is honestly one of my favorite MCU movies. This is probably the movie that made me really like the Avengers and Iron Man. The story about Tony is so interesting and the characters are great in this movie and the acting is some of the best in the MCU!!
