Teodora Cicic to a certain extent it’s fine, but if they go too far it’s patronizing and stops being supportive. Like if they pull out “I have many black friends and they would all agree it’s disrespectful....my black boyfriend and I have had conversations about...etc”. Being a concerned person versus trying to justify your point through the people amongst your in a circle are two different things. I will accept the support as long as they don’t start patronizing.

Big Mac productions To be fair a ton of black people use it even though it's historically a racial slur.(I'm black, so I can say this) So why aren't we saying the same thing to black folks when we use it? When we use that onto each other, especially in the mainstream, it's bound to get trendy and people are gonna think it's okay to use. You can't prohibit something that's practically used universally to refer to almost anybody currently and not expect people to use it. I'm not saying it's okay to say it but if you want society to take you seriously then the black community should start taking what we say and do seriously because other races look at that shit and judge us for it more harshly than others. You can't antagonize someone who uses an oppressive word and think it's okay when you use it.

Unfamiliar Intimacy0070 Actually let me interject here (as a black woman from a red state). Media loves to push the “ignorant black person who gains fame”. There are plenty of black people who don’t use the word and act traditionally “mild-mannered” but media would rather push the “ghetto” or “gangbanger” personality. We talk about this a lot when it comes to awards as well. Like what the f*ck is an “urban award”? It’s short for ghetto or just like Tyler The Creator (who submitted an album that was far from rap yet won said award/same with Lizzo) said “it’s a politically correct version of the n-word”. There’s a reason you don’t see media pushing rappers and artists who aren’t from that “down-and-out black kid makes it rich”. It’s because it isn’t profitable for them. So I don’t think the artists are to blame, the media that refuses to recognize the nuances in black people (or any minority for that matter) are.

For u to sit here and be like “y r we not held accountable” cause we r not the ppl at fault ppl should know when going into social media saying the N word is bad. People should know not to use RACIST SLURS AGAINST ANOTHER RACE. We have nothing to be responsible for. Let's stop using age as an excuse for intentional ignorance and racism. At their age (around 14-18) I knew what was right and wrong and had a sense of morals. I knew what racism was and knew what not to say avout certain cultures because it would be a disrespect to them. I knew using slurs because they're "trendy" or "popular" or in music was not ok. These kids know too. Being young, past a certain age, does not excuse you from your actions. It would be different coming from a five year old but these are people who are in high school, getting ready to head to college-- young ADULTS.

It honestly sickens me that TikTok won’t do jack shit about the blantant Racism and homophobia on the app. Personally as an LGBT creator my content usually doesn’t do that great but the comments I receive get out of hand. I can’t do lives without getting spammed with homophobic remarks. To me it’s a shame because the black women on TikTok are far prettier and their content is actually watchable, and I feel bad that I can’t do much to help with it. I really really hope that at least one popular creator does something about this, since all I am is a small creator

Iirc TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, and colorism as well as homophobia and discrimination against us lgbtq+ folk is very common in Asian countries. Also apparently TikTok operates on a system where the algorithm is designed to censor those who are at risk from bullying and harassment. This extends to those who have a visible disability(ablism is also something that Asian cultures, specifically Korean and Japanese) like needing glasses, to those who are part of a minority are subjected to this system. If you're interested, search up "Upper Echelon Gaming TikTok" and it should be one of the first things that pop up. Its very informative and what kept me from downloading the app.

Literally I felt so ashamed. I’m not exactly educated on the issue, so anyone please feel free to correct me or discuss, but I think the colorism in certain countries definitely stem from colonialization. Like in South East Asian countries, and even in West Asia, there’s the toxic beauty standard to be more pale, with some people even doing dangerous skin whitening products. It’s just sad how some countries are still feeling the effects of colonialism, of WHITE people. And those effects leak into other areas of society, affecting more people.

Different audiences. I agree it’s a double standard, but it has to do with who watches his tik toks vs who watched Emma’s tik toks lil huddy has fan base of young kid’s who just think he’s cute and like the dances, whereas Emma’s audience was made up of teens and maybe 20 somethings who are barbs and tend to fall more on the progressive side so they no better then to endorse racists and give them clout. lil huddys audience are kids who just excuse it as “he’s changed” or don’t even understand what he did wrong. Also the people who comment melanin king are usually the ones who are trolling and have already called him out to be cancelled, but have yet to gain support from his core audience which truly has the power to cancel him.

Meghan Sullivan Couldn’t agree more. The US’s history curriculum is DISGUSTINGLY outdated and paints us to be more benevolent than we were. I’m in a women’s history class right now, and it’s shocking to hear all the atrocities that were targeted towards African American women. Like they already experienced so oppression and discrimination, but there’s EVEN MORE the history books aren’t telling us. Like the suffrage movement definitely wasn’t as equal as we’re taught to believe. Even after the 19th amendment, African American communities (and other ethnic minorities) around the US were still denied voting rights through loopholes that white people took advantage of. And this was BARELY 100 years ago. Our great grandparents experienced this!! I don’t think people today realize how horrible white people (the US) were to all POC. And it’s even sadder to see fellow POC discriminate and target African Americans even though all ethnic minorities are still feeling the effects of colonialism and the effects of white supremacy (which is still living on to this day). It’s not some far removed part of history. These things are happening RIGHT NOW and these literal CHILDREN are perpetuating these disgusting, toxic ideas and behaviour (racism, sexism, etc).
